Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

Hey Golden Dragon, could you post the link to the CFJ page you had me translate character tidbits for? I seem to have misplaced it. Thanks.

http://www.capcom.co.jp/fighting_jam/

Guy who did Gouki/Vega in SFZ3 also did one of the Slam Dunk voices, but I can’t read which one, as I can only read hiragana and katakana and not any kanji.

Sagat guy also did 2 voices for Pokemon…whoever Kojiro is (James?), and I think the Pokemon Index…?

Adon/Birdie/Sodom/Gief/Gen guy did a Gundam X voice (“Garod?” I’m nota big anime guy), and a voice for Detective Conan.

Dhalsim was a voice (Kieth?) in Gundam 0083.

Honda was another 0083 voice (Banning?), and someone named Ray on Macross 7.

etc etc.

Rose’s voice actress, Neya Michiko was Lei Lei/Hsien Ko in Vampire Hunter 2 and, and Pocket Fighter. She also does Chun Li’s voice in CvS2, and Sophitia in the Soul Edge/Calibur/whatever games. Jun Tao in Shaman King, Rally Vincent in Gunsmith Cats, etc (many other random roles)…voice actors in Japan stay busy…

Yeah, Kojiro is James. Thanks for the additions!

CRMK was the person who did the character art, endings and portraits for Zero 1, 2 and 3.

Thanks! For the longest time I wondered which voice Yuji Ueda did for SF3 NG since he wasn’t around for Third Strike. Ah, so Urien it is.

And I see Wataru Takagi did Ryu’s voice too, he’s been around.

Tomomichi Nishimura still Gouki as well.

As for the voice actors I’ve looked up so far, Touru Ohkawa (SF3TS Ryu) was Gaddes in Escaflowne and the Flame of Recca Narrator.

Mitsuo Otawa/Sean in SF3TS did Kyo’s voice in KOF 2000-2003 but not in SVC Chaos. He also did Kaneda in Akira.

Lawrence Baine has done some acting as well, appearing in La Femme Nikita TV Series in the recurring role of Davenport.

More when I get a minute.

Here’s the answer to HnN #31 (finally! Sorry about the extra long wait minna-san):

The fundamentals of Ryu and Ken’s sure-killing techniques abound in the principle of spirit cultivation.
For the hadouken, “ki” is accumulated within the body and released out of the body as a move. For the application of the shoryuken, from the principle of spirit cultivation the attack’s might doubles up as one does the move. With the principle of spirit cultivation applied to the body, these sure-killing techniques are unbelievable instances.
For the sake of both Ryu and Ken’s learning secrets, it is said that they were sent to a life of training lasting several years for the master and respect for his school of martial arts. As for their training ground, it existed within mountain recesses isolated from human habitats. The location being such a location, food was mostly stuff in the mountains provided with the room and board (regarding that outcome, the current Ryu’s survival considers returning for working his way up).
The master taken by the students as not being a type of human being more and more, that governor, particularly what he taught was of what was not. Merely, sometimes to see counts of move refinements, for the pair the training within was enough to fascinate.
Having copied the master’s moves, Ryu struggled toward the conclusion known as “kikouhou.” (the principle of spirit cultivation or meritous ki)* Naturally they were aiming for the “kikoushi” (meritous ki wars)* of the “fighting style” that was not to be, the martial art’s lack of discipline was continuing. But for that significance, it is said that the grouped hands of the opponents becoming associated, the mutual feelings were a definite plus.
After the two mastered the secrets, they decided to vow on still more devotion and reunions for either way taken.

*-means this was added by me for clarity.

Watch for #36 next, after that one I’ll do the rest of the CFJ characters sano, and a brief taste of what’s to come from other sources:

-SF2 Complete File: decent sized profiles for the original twelve world warriors, captions for many (but not all unfortunately) of the b&w illustrations found in Eternal including some yet-to-be-seen elsewhere scenes, a preliminary character relations chart with a few ties to SF characters and footnotes, paragraphs for SF characters themselves (don’t know if there’s anything new but we’ll see), and more.

-SF2 Gamest pre-mook: a paragraph or two of text for each of the twelve.

-SSF2 Gamest pre-mook: official Capcom backstories for the four new challengers, 2.5 to 3 pages of text for each! (yes even Dee Jay); also a multiple choice SF trivia quiz with answers revealed at the end of HnN, captions for the scenes that would become SSF2X’s portrait endings including some that didn’t make the cut, and victory quotes ranging from 5 to 12 per character.

-SSF2X Gamest pre-mook and SSF2X Gamest mook: paragraphs on Gouki, around half to three fourths page of text, we’ll see if there’s anything new in those.

SF2 Dash pre-mook and the giant character relations poster are on the way, hoping to find some more there for the original twelve, and then the SFZ mess will come next, with hopefully more on you-know-who, and then finally SF3. For anyone who has the smaller anniversary book that has SF3 Ryu, SFZ3 Ken and SFZ3 Chun Li on the cover, I’ve noticed from auction scans that there are sections indicated as “Story” in English for characters. If people have a scanner, feel free to send me these if you want them translated. Eternal has the same type of format, but I’ve noticed some story blurbs aren’t the same as Eternal’s just from what I can make out of the endings in the textboxes.

Here’s also another update to the Ojou-san files. Thanks and laters minna san.

Sagat

As a child he was in a bad fight and lost almost all the sight from one eye. His peers made fun of him for his damaged eye, and he lost all his friends. So he decided to enter the world of Muay Thai. Sagat started fighting at the age of 15, and after only a few weeks he became champion.
When he was defending his first title, he was challenged by an unknown but skilled fighter. This opponent recognized Sagat’s weak point and aimed for his eyes. Sagat was in trouble. He was on the brink of defeat, but he was resolute and thought with determination, “I cannot lose ever again”. At that very moment the opponent tried to execute a knee kick toward Sagat’s bad eye, and at the same time Sagat stopped defending his eye and counter-attacked the opponent. He lost one eye completely, but got the victory and defended his title.
Sometime after that, Sagat eventually lost to Ryu, and he worked on his skill so he could reclaim the title onece again (SFZ1).

I already ordered the book, but does anyone have Eternal Challenge already? I’d like a review that focuses on how (if at all) it differs from our “unofficial” translated canon.

I ordered it too since Udoneko said the likely hood of finding it in Comic Book stores isn’t very high. I don’t think any of us have the book yet. Perhaps soon.

I thought danktrees for the “Eternal coming in December” thread under the Comic forum said he had it already, but yes I’m waiting for my copy as well to compare with the original for canon purposes, and also see what the 20 some extra pages will have, if it’ll have any improvements or fill in any omissions I noted for the review on the Japanese version. Hopefully in a week or two.

aerialgroove, the Sagat info is given in the US Street Fighter Alpha Guide, was it anywhere else that you got it from? Just curious.

No I just thought somebody might recognize it from any official source but I guess it’s not official eventhough it was from an official (American) guide.

How much did you guys pay for Eternal Challenge?
You asked for the 15th a. book, is there anything specific that you want scanned or just if we need a translation?

It’s not to say that info isn’t official, because AASFZ has a similar set of text concerning Sagat’s bad eye, just haven’t translated it yet. The thing to be wary of with non-Japanese sources is the tendency to put the canon material together with extra fillers, which is why I’ll translate the text in AASFZ to see how it compares sometime.

I’ll be getting English Eternal for $30 some, around the same as the Japanese version.

For the 15th Annversary book, as many of the characters’ “Story” boxes as possible. Like I mentioned before, a few if not all (Nash is one) are not quite the same text sets as those given in Eternal. None really specific requested at this time, just if there’s one or two or more that people might be dying to know, feel free to scan and send me some.
Heck, I’ll take a gamble. Is there a “Story” box for Gill? If not, surprise me with the “Story” box for one other character of your choice, and I’ll see how it compares to Eternal’s treatment.

Continuing with SF3 Third Strike characters (only the ones I know of who did other stuff…)

Yun Lee - Kentarou Itou. Minamio in Flame of Recca, Kage Tetsuo in Hakuro no Go!, Akimichi Chouji in Naruto.

Ibuki - Yuri Amano. Rain in G Gundam, Keiko in Yu Yu Hakusho.

Oro - Takashi Matsuyama - Was in the Japanese and English version of the Grudge/Ju-on. Also in Ju-on 2. He played Saeki Takeo in all versions. Nobunaga in Hunter X Hunter.

Makoto - Makoto Tsumara - Same name, LOL! Well, her last name’s Makoto… Anyway, she plays Atom aka Astro Boy in the new Astro Boy Anime, and Captain Blue Junior in the new Viewtiful Joe Anime!!! Whataminute, Captain Blue Junior? Ah, I haven’t played part 2 yet, what do I know.

Remy - Eiji Sekiguchi. Sniper in Yu Yu Hakusho.

Chun-Li, Poison - Atsuko Tanaka. Mokoto Kusangi in all of the Ghost in the Shell Animes. Cassandra in Alexander AKA Reign. Eva in the Virtua Fighter Anime.

Urien, Necro, Twelve, Gill - Lawrence Bayne. I talked about him being in Nikita before, but he was also the voice of Cable in the 90s X-Men show. There’s a good chance he did Cable’s voice in MVC2 also since Capcom hired a lot of the X-Men cartoon voice actors.

Q, Hugo - Len Carlson. Did Ganon’s voice in the US Legend of Zelda cartoon.

Here’s Gill’s bio from the Japanese 15th anniversary book.

Unfortunately that’s not a bio, but instead a summary of Gill as a game player, using him, summary of moves and such; something completely missing from Eternal. :wow: The good parts to scan are those “Story” boxes that got cropped towards the left using the page you provided as an example. Does Gill’s say something short in English indicating there’s no story? I can’t tell from the lack of letters shown. If there isn’t a “Story” for Gill, try any other character if you like. Thanks again for your efforts, aerialgroove.

Here’s the answer to HnN #36:

Zangief forges the mind in the intensely cold northern country, moves polished, the body being tempered.
However for him, there’s no reason not to expect how far to go for masculine satisfaction through becoming stronger. All else insufficient, the last deciding factor becomes a coveted grand move. The consideration fought day and night, and more let-in thoughts were battled, little by little this sure-killing technique could not be undone. Zangi considers. “With what am I insufficient?” “What’s missing?!” A fit of anger rose with his self. His head hit onto a large tree with slight bleeding while at the gym.
Brought to the snowy mountains, already how many days probably passed by? One day, a bear awakened from hibernation by a growling stomach proceeded towards him. The agony from the old days since how long had it been when he had a more splendid opponent. The bout on even par, no, no no the bear’s side to see is superior. Zangi slowly approaches and draws back. Foothold reaching at the river’s edge. Already no more behind. The fellow charges. Immediately he strikes with a comeback double lariat. "Trouble! It’s been parried!!"
The two (?) are before the basin under a waterfall. But still he doesn’t throw the fight. In an instant his opponent falls into his arms and, in a moment’s twist already added to rotations goes for a quality fall. That’s right, at that time the screw piledriver’s prototype was completed. However, after that brief accomplishment there was no reason for it. Also, how many times pledged to be finished were already failures with just today’s screw?
His elevated heart doesn’t know to remain in one place. Another newly become sure-killing technique develops, today he strives.

Watch next time for HnN #25 but first the bios for the rest of the CFJ fighters from Warzard and Vampire/Hunter/Savior and Ingrid as given in Capcom of Japan’s page. Laters and arigatou gozaimasu for reading everyone!

Sorry, for Gill it says “NO DATA”, I’ll try some other characters. Same for Maki and all SFI-only characters.
