The old man training a child Chun-Li in that picture is neither Gen nor Chun Li’s father. His name is Shao-efei and he taught Chun Li chinese martial arts.
It might be Mizuto Tsuishi (last name given first), names can have multiple readings. I’m wondering if he’s one of Saiki’s friends whom Saiki said he has that used to work at Capcom. It’d definitely fit since CRMK did many of the referenced storyline arts and maybe even Ojou-san since he did the Gouken sketch. Maybe he even left partially because Capcom stopped caring very much for storyline material?
Where did you find about Shao-efei, Golden Dragon? That’s interesting.
From Ryo, the Red Cyclone webmaster. He found out about it from a novel called “Street Fighter Zero Chun Li” (ISBN?4-8470-3180-6). It was released in March of 1996.
Aha! So that’s what that collection of Chun Li pics in Eternal is. The collection’s caption says “novelize” something, made by Edayan.
You can get it at Amazon.co.jp:
I used the translator and it says “Street fighter ZERO - Wani heroes”
What does CRMK stand for anyway?
I thought that was the whole point (no pun intended). SF2 didn’t really have a story, so they used SFA3 as a way of setting one up, albeit with some retcons.
That’s one way of looking at it…bitch.
I forgot to mention/add that Shao-efei is Chun Li’s uncle.
You mean, “Street Fighter ZERO - Chun Li Wani heroes”
Interesting; her father’s brother, or her mother’s I wonder?
Don’t know what CRMK means, or why Bengus used it as another pen name.
TOC’s complete. If you thought the Fanbook had some interesting stuff, wait’ll you get a load of this! Enjoy.
Me too. I dunno.
Interesting. Do they answer the questions shown in the TOC?? Thanks.
Oh yeah. Take 2 to sometimes 4 pages for each question.
COOLNESS!
Anyway, here’s my Off Topic Review of the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection Official Fighter’s Guide that came out yesterday.
While I can’t totally rate the book because It’s a very long read, so far I’m very happy with it and it does the heart good to see Shoryuken.com thanked in the credits! The Book is loaded with Gaming Strategies, more than any other Fighting Guide Book I’ve ever seen in the US. Too much to get into here.
Quicky Side Note - Each Character in both games has a Favorable Match Up Listed (Someone they can beat easy, not CPU, a Versus Challenger) and an Unfavorable Match Up (Someone you can defeat easily using your character.) You’ll note that Chun-Li is an unfavorable match up for Elena, Makoto and Ibuki. That’s right! Even Gameplay wise, Chun-Li is the Strongest Woman in the SF3 Third Strike World! When I asked Chun-Li about this, she quoted the great Andy Dick from The Assistant, faced Elena, Ibuki and Makoto and said, “IT’S ELIMINATION TIME BITCHES!” LOL! Just kidding, I like those three, just clownin’. I’m sure there are lots of playful observations you can make from reading the book from cover to cover.
Glossary - WOW! Terms such as Shoto, Whiff, Kara Cancel, terms we’ve been using for years are in the Glossary! I still didn’t find the word cheese, but that’s a dirty word anyways…
Storylines - There are no Storylines for anybody, aside from the book telling you Gouki is one of the greatest Video Game Bosses ever, Vega(Cape) is powerful, Gill is Godlike and such. So yeah, Bosses get all the glory.
Endings - No endings in the book, typical Brady Book stuff. Still with SF Eternal coming out in the US that will have endings and storylines, so this doesn’t bother me.
Artwork - It’s all Artwork that is in the Japanese SF Eternal Book, but to the book’s credit, it does have an Artwork Section. The book contains virtually all of the SF3 TS Art (missing very few pieces) but of course not all of the SF2 Art which I don’t expect any Strategy Guide Book to ever have, it’s TOO MASSIVE. Still there are three old drawings they managed to find not in SF Eternal, I don’t know where they found them, must of gone under a rock but they are Blanka on page 8, Ken on page 38 and Balrog(Ninja) on page 74. Only problem is that these 3 Drawings have a third of them cut off.
CD - It is the same single SF3TS CD sold in Japan, but not like the Two Disc CD Set sold in Japan. What this means is that it’s missing the 4 full 5 Minute Hip Hop Songs sung by Infinite in English. So if you have either Import CD set, you won’t need this one. Still, the book’s a Hell of a lot cheaper then what you would’ve paid for the imported CDs back in the day.
So in the end, I can only rate the book on weither or not it fulfils it’s ultimate purpose, Gaming Strategy. And the answer is, yes it does with Tournament Style Combos and the like included. With that in mind, I have to give it a Ten out of Ten and anyone picking up SF AE should pick up this book too as a requirement. And hey, you can still use the strategies for Dreamcast SF3TS so if you have that the book it will still prove useful. Oh, and I LOOOVE this new SRK Icon, so let me use it to Illustrate my appreciation of the book!
Gnarly!!! Would you mind if later I selected a few of those questions for u to answer for me??
That Official Fighter’s Guide sounds cool beans. I must have it!!
Is that fan book the one that looks like a SFIIAM fan book but isn’t? Sano? Thanks.
Scan those three missing pics please!
Oh yeah, that’s why I left the release of the TOC to myself only and not the rest of the thread community! I bring out this kind of stuff only to have you lick your lips and then say go out and find your own! Honestly people, more of you I’d think would ask questions to me, test me, put me on the spot. It makes me learn more from your input, and if I didn’t receive any input, I’d just go through info pertaining to only my curiosities (and everyone probably knows by now what’s at the heart of them all).
Short answer, yes ask. Just keep requests at a reasonable rate is all I’d like from you (and anymore info about you-know-who is always appreciated of course above all else).
The anniversary guide is commendable in that it’s finally the first US published guide for 3S, and its art section does again reveal stuff not published before in a US book to my knowledge, and yeah I thought those three pieces sano mentioned were a tad rare and/or unseen but wasn’t sure. And 200+ pages makes a nice chunky book to read. Only thing I thought there wasn’t a clear division between coverage on Hyper and the start of coverage for 3S; might confuse a newbie, but anyway. Kudos to all the Shoryuken.com folks who contributed to it.
Were you asking sano about the fan book, or me?
You I mean him I mean whoever has it, if it’s that one. Uh. Sano told me bout the fan book that has some SFIIAM pics on the cover so I wonder if it’s that one. Anybody?
If you mean the Fanbook (cover has pics from the movie) listed in the plot guide, I have it. The missing pics are from the new game guide for Hyper SF2 and 3S (totally different book). Did you want something from the Fanbook?
I really don’t remember… The only books I know of that have the SF2 the Animated Movie Images are Books that talk about the Movie. One is in color, (Ryu, Chun-Li, Ken on the cover) another has no color (Cammy on the cover) and another is all about Chun-Li (Naturally Chun-Li is on the cover.) The only SF Fan Mook I have is the Gamest one for SF3 NG.
And yeah, I’ll scan the images for ya! Quick Favor though. Can you also host the 4 Shingo Pics for the KOF 2003 Arcadia Mook on your Site for Snkneogeoshingo so the images can be Posted on the KOF Storyline THread? You can delete them after Snkneogeoshingo saves them if you want.
I’m gonna try for next week to send you the scans.
I didn’t mean sano, sorry I meant vasili 10. Can’t you guys get icons, it would be so much easier for an old man like me to differ all you short named people. Sorry again. To both.
Ok, now I always got that the three pics are in the new guide. Scan them. Whoever has em.
What I didn’t get was what that list of questions if from. Is it from the fan book with the SFIIAM pics on the cover (vasili 10 knows which one I mean). Or where is that list from? Thanks.
I thought the file said at the top what it is, but anyway. The list of (mostly) questions is the table of contents from an ooooold book called SFII Hadouken no Nazo (Mysteries or Riddles of the Hadouken). It was a paperback novel-format FAQ book published by Shinseisha/Gamest after the SSF2 pre-mook and before the SSF2X pre-mook, all in 1994.
The plot guide’s Fanbook with the AM pics on the cover is called the Sreet Fighter II Movie Memorial Official Fanbook (translated title). It also came out in 1994 but after the three books mentioned above.
