Uhh, he meant that people were still proficient enough to execute 3xP & 3xK commands to compete well on HF Snes. I still can’t believe some of the rhetoric coming from “alleged” pad players regarding binding buttons.
a long time ago people learned how to play street fighter in the arcade on a six button layout.
today, new players are introduced to the game through whatever console they own and learn how to play on that console’s standard controller.
i dont know what a ps3 controller looks like, but the standard controller for the xbox is not designed to allow 3k or 3p with anywhere near the consistency you get from an arcade style 6 button layout.
some old school players might say “fuck you, new guy, get a stick!” but those new players are the growing community of street fighter.
new players are not coming from arcades, they are coming from living rooms and they learn how to play on a device that was not designed for 3k/3p.
personally, i cant stand sticks because they are loud as fuck.
i dont want to wake my wife and kid up every time i kongoshin your ass!
If I recall correctly, the Soul Calibur community only started allowing binds when the game stopped receiving arcade releases.
“Necessity” is a little strong. It’s really not that hard to hit PPP or KKK on a pad.
In Soul Calibur (4), binds make Hilde (even more) retarded for a similar reason. Players assign extra A and B buttons to the shoulders, and now she can break throws without losing charge.
Turbo is obviously bullshit. I find it a little sketchy that anyone would even think it was okay, but I guess I’ll give people the benefit of the doubt on that one. It’s probably a good idea to explicitly ban it given all those new players and sticks with a turbo function right there.
Binds are just a dumb crutch. Unfortunately it seems like there is too much momentum on that issue for binds to go away any time soon, but I still think they should be banned if they provide any gameplay advantage beyond making a multiple-button press mechanically easier to perform, as in the Hilde and Balrog examples.
Turbo gamebreaks. Yesterday, raybladex, myself, lordbbh and several other portland players were messing around with this turbo stuff.
We tested it with ryus forward fierce (2-hit) crouch fierce, uppercut. Im a crap player with ryu and without turbo i wasnt landing it, but with turbo on it was a breeze.
EDIT: when i say im terrible with ryu…im terrible so the above should not be easy for me to do
I have some footage but i need to edit it since theres a bunch of dead air.
Thanks for reading my first post guys =)
Not a problem man. You do a lot for the community and its only right for us to help as well and give back what we can…and hopefully that wasnt sarcasm lol. We have been reading the thread…but that was the easiest thing to test since it was like…6in the morning
i was bored playing SF4 with my little brother and i put turbo on to mash HHS and see if i can win by just holding it down… it actually was quite a bit harder to do combos with the turbo than by just pianoing it… i remember a few tournaments from other games where the unspoken rules that the “ancients” of the game thought were obvious ended up stirring up a ton of controversy. New players mean the need for the unspoken rules to be brought up and re taught to all the new players.
A+ post
True, it isn’t. But I think the problem is that those particular commands are bound to single buttons in the official default controller setup so people will naturally adapt to them. And if a tournament is being hosted on a console then it isn’t necessarily a given that the default controller setup should be abandoned. There are arguments both ways. I think that’s the more important issue while the “necessity” of it comes in second.
well i never been 2 any tournament yet, but pretty sure they do not allow turbo. Yo about macros though, 1 button 3 punch changed marvel vs capcom (1) gameplay so much. 2 many macro scrubs on ggpo/mvc1 so beware most of them don’t even realize how much it effects the gameplay.
Oh good, the same issue we’ve already dealt with when people whined about it for online play, except it’s been modified to fit Valle’s continued hardon about MANLY MEN LERN 2 B BRAVE AT TOURNEYS or whatever the hell. Great to have your involvement in the greater community, Alex. Stay vigilant against the specter of links being a certain threat instead of a roll of the dice.
Oh, and thanks to Gootecks for reiterating that it’s not actually game-breaking, just annoying. Because that somehow matters. I hope one day i can grow up big and strong (or fat and in ugly dayworker shits) STRET FITAR player so i, too, can start a campaign to enforce rules on things i just admitted didn’t matter.
P.S. Holy fuck how did this bullshit reach 10 pages SNES pads? what the f
And while we’re at it let’s allow autotarget in fps after all all it does is turn headshots into a certain threat instead of a roll of the dice. :lame:
Most rules say “no macros.”
Most tournaments have a rule about pausing or any game interruption originating from a player’s stick, intentional or not, resulting in a dq for that round.
The law already covers this for them.
What part of my first post did you not understand? Are you trolling?
I’ve already covered that turbos aren’t gamebreaking before Gootecks posted his thoughts.
If you don’t care for turbos then just stick to that.
You obviously don’t care about the integrity of player skill involved with execution. :lame:
You sound like a fucking douchebag btw.
jagger needs a fucking blowjob holy shit
Seconded because learning to mash his **** obviously takes too much effort let alone linking hundred hand slap xx orgasm.
Turbo mode in everything baybee!
I think madcatz TE sticks turbo function does 30 inputs per second on the faster setting. 1 frame links are a 50/50. 2 frame links are 100% guaranteed.
Anyway, turbo is lame. Execution is as much a part of the game as anything else. It took me a good amount of time in training to get down the timing on plinking c.HP after a f/HP.
Props to calipower and mrwizard for making it known that these funtions are not even officially banned at many events.
words cant express how hard i laughed. can i buy this guy a month of premium?
imo:
no turbo
no macros. at all
it’s silly for TE sticks to have 8 buttons.
turbo should be banned. if you can’t do the super hard combos then do the BnB ones instead. if you’re sad that you can only do the BnB then too bad, go into training mode. there’s not that big of a difference between the BnB and mega combos for most characters. if you can’t do the execution then change ur character don’t rely on a computer to do shit for you.
