Wichita, KS is hosting War Games (aka Garage Wars) featuring an all-new team tournament for Street Fighter IV and Tekken 6: BR! We are also holding the first ever SWISS STYLE tournament bracket as well as a new addition to the roster, Street Fighter II: HD Remix and Melty Blood: Actress Again. Get hypeeee!

Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter II: HDR

The rules are up. If you have any problems / suggestions for them, feel free to post it now. Just don’t complain about them come March 20th.

I’m still trying to figure out how we’re gonna fit all this into 5 hours… Especially with people entering multiple games and stuff.

I’d like to take part in this…I’m about 3 hours away, and only had 1 question. I assume it’s Bring Your Own Controller/Stick; I play on a pad, and want to bring a controller, but I fear the wireless factor might interfere.

Is this a real big issue? Also, I main Sakura…are console characters allowed?

The wireless factor isn’t a problem, just make sure you sync it up before you start a match. Most of the time players will do a button check to make sure everything is in order before they start playing. Just remember to turn off your controller after the match is done if you’re using wireless, so it doesn’t affect the next match playing on that console.

Hey Pete, TvC: UAS is now on the list for War Games.

How about we cut the times for casuals down to about 11:30 and do tournaments one at a time? With all the set ups running we should be able to finish most of the tournaments if we run the bigger ones first and see if we have time for stuff like Melty, BlazBlue and TvC (in that order).

Update: We have the venue until 9pm now, so there’s no need to cut any tournaments unless the turn-out isn’t atleast 8.

Let’s talk equipment.

Will there be setups provided? Or is this Bring-Your-Own-Setups?

Also, what are the chances of this event being streamed over some site?

Sorry for the late reply. TVs, PS3’s and games will be provided for competition, and you’re always welcome to bring your own. It is, however, bring your own stick, I usually lend mine out of someone is short a stick for an event. The chances of the event being streamed are slim, I don’t think the venue is set up to do it.

Well then, looks like we’ll have to do the old-fashioned method of recording matches and uploading later.

In the meantime, it would be beneficial to look at the prospects of streaming for the next tournament, whenever that’ll be.

There’s no better way to fuel the hype machine than a tournament stream.

Good thing I came back to check up on this.

What time do the casuals begin? I’d like to get in warm-up matches before hand, so I can get warmed up.

One more thing; I want to record the matches I have for my YouTube page, so would you guys mind if either A) I bring my little tri-pod, or B) Someone record my matches for me?
I don’t want to make a space issue…

DigitalHypnosis: I agree, it would be great to eventually stream one of our tournaments, CPhame and I would have to talk with the organizer and venue owner to see if there is indeed a way to set something up.

SFCatgirlFanatic: Pre-registration and casuals will start at 10:30 and run until 12:30-1:00 depending on if people from out of town are still coming in.

Furthermore, bringing your own camera is welcome, CPhame generally has his own camera there recording the “big” matches (Winners Finals, Loser Finals, Grand Finals, “rival” matches). I’m pretty sure all of the Street Fighter and Tekken team events will be recorded. The tripod will be set up behind the chairs as not to interfere with players. I may be able to bring a camera along to help capture some matches, too.

A stream is nice. Are you proposing to host one for us? There was a person who tried to set up a live stream in the past, but he’s long since disappeared, so I don’t have any idea where he went. At this point we’re still growing in the community, so if attendance rises large enough I will speak to the tournament director about setting up a stream.

Otherwise, I typically just recorded finals for as many tournaments as possible and upload them onto youtube. There’s a few on my youtube channel already from previous tournaments.

SFCatgirlFanatic: Yeah, you’re welcome to bring your own equipment, but please remember that you’ll have to be in charge of supervising it.

With the equipment that I have, I would only be able to do camera shots of the screen as opposed to actual video capture, similar to what you’ll see here: [media=youtube]gGoTBDo6Oc8[/media]

As far as quality goes, this will (under favorable circumstances) be as good as it gets. As you may be aware, streaming equipment is expensive as hell.

Technically, I have the equipment to stream direct video, but what I got only handles composite and S-Video, and while playing fighting games in standard definition isn’t impossible, it’s definitely not the preferred choice.

So un-preferred, in fact, that I’d rather not treat it as an option.

Now, whether or not I will be able to will most likely rely on two important factors:

  1. The availability of internet connectivity at the venue.

  2. Whether or not I’ll show up.

While nothing would make me happier than to show up at an actual fighting tournament held in my beloved birthplace of Wichita, there are other elements within my life that holds priority over my participation in this event (Read: Job). That said, I’m afraid I cannot guarantee anything at this point, but being part of this event is something which I’m still striving for.

I see. Like I mentioned earlier, I’m not sure if the venue has a wireless connection or not since it’s a movie theater and all, so I’m not even sure if streaming is an option. Plus if it’s as expensive as you imply, then that really lowers any potential for streaming as our tournament director has a small budget.

What? Did you think I was going to charge you guys to stream? Aside from financial gain, why would I want to do that?

I just want to help build up the image of War Games.

I read an article by some Kansas City news outlet that interviewed Petro Irving.

In it, Petro exclaimed that he wished to make Wichita a prominent place for fighting games.

If he can make Wichita to the midwest what Los Angeles is to the West Coast and what New York City is for the East Coast, then he’ll be the greatest man in the world.

All I wish to do is help.

And to have fun, but also to help.
