…Still not getting it, I’ve only ever been with 3 banks all very well established, Barclays, Natwest and Co-op. If your credit card provider is shady that’s one thing, it’s in their best interest to protect your money. My bank for example will call me up with 10mins of suspect transaction, my card is frozen until I can confirm the transaction is mine. Yes it’s an inconvenience when you want to use your card but what’s the alternative? Sueing for minor inconveniences just wouldn’t fly over here. As for your restaurant scenario, they can ask for your driving licence or something that has your home address on it, if you fail to pay within 14days or whatever duration you agree upon then expect the police to come find you.
OP suing because he got embarrassed in front of a girl is laughable it’s not as if the cinema’s manager told him to walk around with pants around his ankles and a popcorn box on his head whilst sing the theme to Titanic for everyone to see.
Why don’t you get a “Just in Case” credit card? Something you always keep a zero balance on. Use it every month, but always pay it off. That way, you build up your credit score so when you grow up you’ll be able to get a car or mortgage loan. And you don’t look like a jackass when your bank fucks up your debit card. Win win.
Be happy that shit didn’t happen when you were at the Market with a variety of cold product in your cart. Now that shit is embarrasing and a hassle for the store. Or as you said found this shit out when your at the pump and realize your SOL and cant get gas.
Movie theathers is not much of a prob… dont let that shit get to you. Call them up and have them send you a new card. Besides better this happen then trying to pay for some shit and found out your account’s been cleaned out like some of the other unlucky souls out there.
BTW thanks for reminding me of this. Bout to watch this excellent movie over a blunt, got it on blueray.
What exactly are you suing for? You suffered no damages. Please do sue, so they can stick you with their legal fees when the case gets tossed. Waste of time, just because you got embarrassed.
Something vaguely similar happened to me last year. I bought two cell phones as presents and the transactions were flagged as suspicious and my account was suspended without my knowledge.
I went to buy something to eat, and my card got declined. I just paid cash, went home, and called my bank to straighten out the problem. No hissy fits. No threatening to sue.
Wait up so…nobody knows about the Target credit card compromise in the news? It would have been fine, I would have withdrew money to spend over the week. And YES, being declined in a long line at the movies is a traumatizing.
This isnt a case of funds not available. I am not a broke ass SRK gamer type, who has to sell everything and eat ramen to make it to a fuckin tournament, and wont work because it would take time away from trying to get out of pools at majors. Might be posting on SRK but do not get it wrong.
Like i said, no warning from the company. I mean I ended up having cash, which I forgot about since I dont carry it. I just gave it to the chick for what she paid and left.
There have already been 12 or so suits brought against Target because of the recent fiasco. Debit pin numbers were also stolen along with account number of the card. But realistically you could sue, but you would lose. The bank actually acted in your best interest, not to mention theirs. If they hadnt done this and someone else took your money, then you could have sued the bank for failing to protect your asset. Sure you lost face during your “date” but if she cant understand the situation, then shame on her, and shame on you for dating a bimbo. Like the others have said, always carry more than one from of credit/payment. You werent the only that got affected. I did too. I just went to my bank and changed card and pin numbers the same day the news broke…like a week ago or so? Better safe than sorry. But you can try, and do it for the lulz. They either laugh at you and you get nothing, or they settle and you get lucky or they decide to make an example out of you in court. Do you really want to fight goliath over a petty amount on a trivial situation?
edit:
In the end, if this was “such an inconvenience”, you are nowhere near prepared as you should be. do the rest of us a favor and dont have kids, you arent ready.
When I was in university I had stack of like 6-7 books, went up to the register and my card was declined because I ran out of money. I simply put the books back and went to my dorm to get cash.
If the same thing happened to you and the only significant difference was that you were on a date, tell your bitch you’re broke as fuck and see if she’s with you for YOU or if she’s leeching for your money.
