Want to know if your PC/video card is good enough for SF4? Read here

I made this thread in the hopes that it will head off legions of “zomg !!1! will my comp run SF4 ?!?!?!? HALP !” type posts we’ve been so inundated with recently. Though I already know deep in my heart that most people who love superfluous punctuation also detest searching before posting, I felt I should at least try. Why not right?

Anyway, here are the PC specs for SF4 (as posted numerous other places on the board).

For the most part, the RAM and CPU stuff should be easy to figure out. If you are completely new to computers, you can find out what type of CPU and how much RAM your computer has as follows:

Start > Control Panel > System

You’ll see something like this:

Processor: Intel ® Core™2 Duo CPU T8100 @ 2.1 GHz
Memory (RAM): 3.00 GB

Thus, this system in question meets the recommended CPU and RAM requirements for SF4.

The Video card is a bit more complicated.

On Vista, you can simply right click on your desktop and select “personalize.” If you’re using a flat screen, you might see something like:

1: Generic PNP monitor on ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650

If you don’t see your video card type there, click the “advanced settings” tab. Your card will be listed as the “adapter type.”

If you’re on XP, just do: Start > Control Panel > Display. Look around in the tabs there. I don’t have access to an XP machine right this second, but that’s about the jist of it.

Now that you know what card you’re running, here is how to compare it to the minimum/recommended system specs:

You’ll note this page has a nice, easy to read column of various video cards listed in order of (rough) performance. You’ll note that the minimum cards are in the mid class 3 category, while the recommended are high class 2.

To find out more information about your specific card, you can click on the link of the card for more information and a review. Note: this often also contains information like whether your card meets the “DirectX 9.0c/Shader3.0” requirements. Here is the review of the video card that the example computer is using:

So, a basic run down based on the information that we’ve been able to acquire on this computer is as follows.

  • It exceeds the recommended specs on CPU and RAM
  • It has a middle of the road video card in comparison to the needs of SF4

Based on this, one could infer that it should run SF4 pretty decently, though some of the graphical bells and whistles might need to be toned down a little.

Though this is not an exact science as we don’t yet have the PC version of SF in our hot little hands, we can at least ballpark what kind of performance a system should be able to produce.

Hopefully the less computer savvy people on the board will find this guide helpful. I’ll see you online in about a month!

I found it helpful!

And by the looks of things, looks like I’m set to go.

very helpful thanks:bgrin:

Looks like my laptop won’t pull through

laptop is safe, desktop barely.

Maybe someone will make a wireframe graphics pack mod so then any computer could play it.

My Laptop Specs:
Core 2 Duo T9300 @ 2.50GHz
Nvidia 8800M GTX 512mb
4Gb’s Ram
1920x1200 Screen
350gb HDD
Vista 32bit

My PC Specs:
Core 2 Quad Q6600 OC’ed to 3.50GHz
Nvidia 9800 GTX 512mb W/Custom Heatsink OC’ed
1TB Space total
4GB’s Ram
1920x1200 Screen
Vista 32bit

I’m pretty sure both of my rig’s will play this game nicely.

:bgrin:

Excuse my ignorance but why would anyone want to play a arcade/console game on a PC, besides maybe slightly better graphics?

Kinda like playing a point based strategy game on a console, doesn’t always work.

GGPO/2dFighter.

Not everybody has a next-gen console.

It comes with a SFIV fightpad so the game is really only $20.

Some people don’t like dealing with the 12-year old assholes on Live (not that the PC doesn’t have its share, just less likely).

Your analogy is flawed anyway, most of the PC -> Console game conversions suffer from having to move from mouse/keyboard to joypad. SFIV doesn’t have control translation issues since any PS3/360 stick/gamepad will work fine on it.

If you’re looking for some detailed specs on your computer, you can go to www.cpuid.com

They have a tool called CPU-Z, which gives you a lot of good information about what kind of processor you have, how fast it is, how much ram, and lots of other info.
Also PC Wizard might be worth a look, i havent used it in a while, but i seem to remember it being a decent tool for checking system specs and monitoring some aspects of it.

you can also get GPU-Z from: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1379/TechPowerUp_GPU-Z_v0.3.4.html

it’ll give you some good information about your graphics card.

These tools are geared more towards more tech savy people, dealing with things like overclocking, but overall they’re great tools to find out what you’ve got.

Because I want to play Street Fighter IV on the PC.
I will just hook up my joy stick on it.

There are also people that do not have a console, any console, but they do have a PC.
So for those, Street Fighter IV is accessible the PC way.

An extra / another online community.

Aside from what others have already said, the arcade version of SF4 essentially runs off of PC hardware anyway. Besides, sticks work fine on a PC. It’s not like you’re gimping yourself with control options.

I have the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 that has video memory of only 128MB but then when I went to the control panel/system/ and checked out my windows experience index it says I have a total of 893MB? Is using system ram reliable when running a PC game? Never played PC games before so I’m confused if I can play this game safely on my laptop or maybe I should start saving to upgrade my desktop. Copy and pasted from the windows experience index:

Graphics

Display adapter type ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470
Total available graphics memory 893 MB
Dedicated graphics memory 128 MB
Dedicated system memory 0 MB
Shared system memory 765 MB
Display adapter driver version 8.513.1.0
Primary monitor resolution 1280x800
DirectX version DirectX 10

Using system RAM is slower and it robs RAM from your operating system, I wouldn’t want to have to rely on it for gaming purposes.

So will mine. Those specs are pretty average. :arazz:

Wait, someone make sure I’m not hallucinating. My business notebook will be able to run this? Barely? Now that’d be something even if I’m not getting the PC version.

OS: Windows XP SP3
CPU: Intel Core2Duo P8600 2.40GHz
RAM: 2GB
HDD: 30GB+ free
Video Card: NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M
Resolution: 1440x900

Well, they’re becoming more common but I’d hardly call them ‘average’.

Looks like my PC will eat this game for breakfast. Now I just need to decide if I actually want two versions of the game or not

That particular card is below the list of the 6600 series and has half the RAM Capcom considers required. Although often times PCs will run games if they are below the minimum specs, it isn’t usually pretty. What are the rest of the stats on your system? I’m guessing your system RAM is low too based on the above.

Currently have:

AMD 5200+ @2.7 GHz
2 GB RAM
9500 GT (being repaired)
Resolution: 12801024

Windows XP

Definitely going to get this version due to not having a current-gen console. I am also going to have a 9800 gt (which is more than 4 times as powerful as my current card) by the time I get it. I am still intrigued as to how it would run with a 9500 gt though…

BTW, remember folks, your monitor resolution also affects performance, but SF4 doesn’t seem demanding.

dang looks like my laptops video card wont make the cut, guess ill stick to PS3!
