All I can say is “Good luck” finding the right sticks. I searched pretty much everywhere online (plus some bricks & mortar shops) I can think of to find two suitable sticks that could be used. Not much is out there that’s affordable.
I also thought about building my own handle with buttons in it, but after you buy a couple of regular Sanwa/Seimitsu joysticks, pay someone to hollow them out for the wires and buy all the other misc parts, it’ll end up costing a bomb!
I am a big VO:OT fan, but not that big to spend a small fortune building a stick from scratch. :looney: Don’t get me wrong, it is definately do-able, if you got money to burn.
From what I can tell, judging by the seimitsu-ish restrictor plate(and the fact that the 5.2 control panel has a Seimitsu PS-15 button for start), I’d hazard a guess that the sticks themselves are seimitsu and probably discontinued. I’m pretty sure the JLJ can function as a drop in replacement though. JLJ looks like it’s an 8 way digital(if you can read katakana, disregard the fact that it says ANALOG STICK on top of the page…). I wonder if it’s the stick they used for FORCE…
Yeah, Saturn ones are going back up, they were expensive upon release… then almost free… then expensive when SEGA made about 7 sets of the DC Twin Stick… then cheap (but not as cheap as before) and now high again. I always mean to order a set when I see 'em, but the shipping from Japan is always re-god-damn-diculous.
I was talking about dual button sticks (like a PC flight stick) that could be sacrificed to be used for a VO:OT twin stick, an alternative in other words. Similarly to what this guy did.
For me it ended up being cheaper to buy the real deal and mod them instead. I found a set of Saturn sticks on eBay for $80, plus I also get the Saturn version of Cyber Troopers. As I already mentioned, I also have a set of DC sticks, but I want to keep them in original condition.
I hate these things since they are completely devoid of part numbers, or manufacturer, or any identifying info! I really want more of these in new condition. But you’re probably right, they are probably long discontinued. From the pictures I’ve seen, the sticks are probably the same for Force.
I checked my Saturn Twin Sticks, it looks like the stick assembly probably attaches by screws but I can’t tell… you have to remove the artwork from the top of the panel to see how it attaches. The artwork appears glued on, so I don’t want to damage anything. Also it’s worth mentioning that the stick grips are interchangeable between the Saturn and DC (and arcade, for that matter) Twin Sticks.
Anywho, yeah, thats a pair of analog flight sticks, handles hacked onto what I think are happ joystick bases. I’m pretty sure those are happ anyway.
Personally, i’m begining to question how accurate they will be in compairison to actuall Voot sticks. I’ll find out once i wire up some new pcb’s won’t I?
It should be possible to get used to. Back when SHGL still existed and had VOOT, it was in a converted OMG cab with OMG sticks in functional but mediocre condition, and it was still playable.
According to a short interview with a Hori rep posted on the official VOOT 360 site, this is apparently cost prohibitive. It’s probably because the controller is being produced in very low quantities.
This is actually a major complaint in the VOOT community. Reports from hardcore players who have custom Twin Sticks with the Sanwa joysticks, or have used them in the arcade, are not good at all. Mostly everyone (myself included) want the “real” VOOT handles, as used on the DC/Saturn/arcade Twin Sticks, and not these expensive Sanwa sticks.
Hori are aware of this, and may be able to address it in the final version (the one posted on their website is a prototype). The preorder count is over 4000 now, so hopefully Hori can justify doing something better than the prototype.
