I wouldn’t mod mine unless they were not working anymore. We need a DC to 360 adaptor, stat!
This is how I did it (starting off of a stock LS-32):

it was definately a trial and error process (had I known that Sanwa sold those VOOT-like sticks I would’ve just bought those instead, lol) and the whole ordeal took me at least 4 attempts before I could eventually get it right.
Honestly, I wouldn’t even know how to go into details since english isn’t my native language…I’ll just post a lot of pictures once the stick is ready; basically I got rid of the restrictor gate and main spring, modified the shape of the shaft at the top to lock-in the new handle, turned upside down the body of the stick, added 4 additional tiny springs behind each switch leaf to allow the stick to go back to its neutral stance and borrowed some components from an old USB analog cloche.
works like a charm though.
P.S.: technically it isn’t a “VOOT stick” since it was specifically designed for Sensible World of Soccer/beat’em ups.
Here is the default button config for VOOT (XBLA).

I don’t think that there’s any useful info, unless we see the other button configuration options.
It will be better for modding if the left stick is replaced by the d-pad and the right stick from the face buttons right?
I am wondering if I should get a DC Twin Stick… I have to pay like $100 for one and I don’t know if I would be able to mod it.
Edit:
As it seems fully digital controls will be supported:

If you have access to a set of twin sticks, get them regardless. There are considered as one of the more ‘valued’ pieces of gaming history.
But anyway, you will be able to mod it if you were so inclined. Simply get a cheap Madcatz pad, map the left stick to the D-pad and the right stick to the ABXY buttons. The triggers go to the triggers and the top stick buttons go to Lb & Rb. Start is Start of course. The only other button you would need is a Guide button.
Retri - Thanks for the pics, doesn’t show me much unfortunately. What kind/brand of stick top is that? It looks like an old PC joystick.
That config screen worries me. It saying move on the left and turn on the right sounds wrong.
Both sticks should be “move”.
It would be very playable on the Pad if they made both sticks like the VOOT sticks. (IE Left analog to the Left and Right Analog to the Right would make me jump.)
Is that option in one of the presets?
Read that link that Xeno-V posted, it explains everything. Looks like every combination is possible.
kinda related: http://vo-ot360.sega.jp/ not sure if it was already posted but i somehow stumbled onto it
dude some of those pics would look soo sick on a VOOT stick!
There’s the LSX-31 but that only has 1 button and having never played VOOT I don’t know if it would be good for the job.
Nah, no good. The game needs two buttons on each stick.
I just found these from a supplier over here in Australia. Might be an option if some of us want to make their own set of twin sticks!
I sent them an email as that data sheet doesn’t work :wtf: In the meantime, going by that picture, does anyone know who makes them or if I can find any other info about them?
I am looking at these…
http://www.happcontrols.com/joysticks/50250800.htm

I am wondering if there is a joystick that could be compatible with those, or get two JLFs with the shafts holes drilled out for the button wires. This should work if there is a digital setup for the dpad and face buttons for movement and triggers and shoulders for dash and fire. Wish they had more pictures of the bottom. I found a pic on the internet with those grips attached. It would require some kind of machining to adapt it.
I’m guessing The costs:
grips $60
JLF x2(next month or 2) $60
JLF drilled Shafts x2 $ 40
PCB and wiring stuff $50.
Box ~$60
+Unknown cost for adapting those grips to work with JLF.
Maybe $300 or more…
I’d like to see somebody do it.
I miss my Saturn Twinsticks. =*(

Modded DC Twin Sticks
I went ahead and modded my DC Twin Sticks. They mostly correspond to the “Twin Stick Type B” control scheme (I may have to swap two buttons in case the config in the final game isn’t customizable).
I’m not the only one who has done this, since there are some for sale on Yahoo! JP Auctions. More pics and details of mine are here:

It is 100% reversible (I used the appropriate JST connectors). There’s no way I’d destroy my DC Twin Sticks, considering my DCs will be around for another 10 years, but I dunno about XBLA.
Note that the PCB was already ripped out of these, and installed in my arcade Twin Sticks for DC (also compatible with my VOOT 5.66 N@OMI setup, and soon probably Xbox 360):

Oh, BTW, I like VOOT.
Nice, I have the smaller version (i guess about half the length). Do you have the exact size of jst connectors or a link to where you got them from. Tx.
BTW, do you like VOOT :wgrin:
Hey Menthol, we have to stop running into each other like this :wgrin: Actually now that I know that you visit these forums also, I’ve got a question for you. I’ve got a set of Saturn Twin Sticks coming to me (wanted to keep my DC sticks in one piece) and I’m going to mod them instead. I understand you have a set of Saturn sticks also - how are the actual sticks mounted in the case? Are they screwed in, held in place by clips or something else entirely?
I want to be a bit more adventurous and build a custom box but use the proper sticks and until I get mine and rip them apart, it would be good to know if it’s possible so I can plan and/or even build it in the meantime.
GNS: I already asked the same question. Here is your answer!
Nice, thanks Dreamcazman !!!
“Purists will presumably be more interested in the two Twin Stick control options. These attempt to replicate the arcade version’s dual lever control system without a pricey peripheral. Option A uses the two analogue pads to replicate the left and right sticks. Option B goes completely digital, using the d-pad for the left stick and the face buttons for the right stick. Both options use the triggers for firing and the LB and RB buttons for dashing.”
The top pic is actually from the standard DC Twin Sticks. For the JST connectors, see the post from Dreamcazman.
I haven’t taken Saturn Twin Sticks completely apart before, so I’ll have to check and get back to you. The DC Twin Sticks would probably work for your project since the base of the stick assemblies screw as well as snap into place. On a side note, the DC stick assembly base is stamped “SEIMITU”, so it seems Sega outsourced some parts.
I’ll see how they are when I get mine. They should be the same stick you would think. If you get time to compare them with the DC sticks it would be very much appreciated.
I’d like to use the Saturn sticks as the darker colouring would better suit what I’m planning.
was this game ever in the arcade? i think i remember playing it. if its the same shit im about to go download it… i absolutely that game.
Edit: looks like it is that game… gunna start drawing up a project to make a stick for this puppy. ITS GOING TO BE EPIC.
