I binge watched this a few days ago. I like the idea of this Voltron. The older show was pretty Monster of the Week ish, and it was something that to be quite honest was a little I guess silly.
Here it’s definitely a fresh take on Volton and how the team functions etc. I can see a ton of Korra elements seeping through here, but they do a good job of keeping it muted. My only gripe about this show is a silly one indeed, the sword. I mean, damn guys. If we’re going to go anime, we need to go full anime. I wanted that ridiculous looking sword lol.
give it time. as you’ve seen they havent shown all the abilities of the lions and the mech.

I’m excited for a season 2. Hopefully with such strong results they allow the team to make a good 18 ~ 24 episodes this time out.
Indeed. But how can you barely remember the original Voltron then? Voltron was as huge in the 80’s as any other property at the time(Transformers, Thundercats, G.I.Joe, Captain Power, etc).

cartoons for the most part i do.
The ones that i was really into, yes. Even those i was only slightly acquainted with, i still remember enough about them if they were popular.
And Voltron definitely had it’s share of time where it was as big as any other popular toyline had been.
finally getting around to watching it. not sure what to think yet but i’m only on episode 4.
a lot of the humor and pacing reeks of Korra though. which isn’t a bad thing but not particularly a good thing either.
edit: finish. not bad, just wasnt impressed either. it had a lot of the same issues i had with korra. but i expected as much. iunno if i’ll watch season 2 though.

Funny thing is people don’t realize the old 80’s Hasbro, that that unified universe for ALL the 80s Hasbro shows did exist.
Most notable was the inclusion of GI Joe in Transformers.
Cobra Commander appeared in the Transformers cartoon’s third season episode “Only Human" as “Old Snake”.
Also recurring character Marissa Faireborn in the Transformers cartoon is the daughter of Sgt. Flint and Lady Jaye.
GI Joe and TF were connected, but the others, not really.
MASK was a Kenner property at the time, Micronauts didn’t have a show, and neither did Rom.
Finally saw season 1. Havent read any of your comments in case you guys spoil season 2. Anyways, season 1 was pretty good. I like the show, one cant help but wonder about a potential thundercats crossover. That would be pretty sweet IMO.
Alluras fake british accent is annoying as is the Australian friendship zoned guy/uncle (?). This defo has some sort of power rangers vibe (in a good way). Its a shame they wont have a secret 6th ranger er… I mean paladin, who will be some bad ass white Paladin/lion.
Loved season 1. Season 2 is dope!

PS:. Allura is the sixth ranger. Just like the original, she’ll take over as a Paladin for Shiro/Sven, while Keith will pilot the Black Lion as foreshadowed.
