I started a chat channel on IRC for Virtual On discussion and sharing strategies. Itās #virtualon on IRC server EFNET. See you there!
My GT is āMentholMo0seā, add me! I need some more matches with more local players.
Hereās a guide for the DC version that lists all the hidden special moves for the mechs in VOOT. Where youāre told to press Start, press Special instead (Back button on the standard control scheme).
cross-posted from one of the other threads:
GOOD GAMES sixfortyfive even though i got slaughtered in almost every single match
can a mod make it so theres only 1 thread for this game? i mean its great that the game is popular but 3 separate threads is a little hard to follow
i really need to figure out my angelan vs dordray matchup. i seriously have no idea what to do; i cant hide behind cover and play the long range game because his shit goes through obstacles better than mine, not to mention he has better armor. i cant RTSD because dordray will just run in and trade hits with me (i always lose those trades, bad). i cant even do some chip damage and run away for 80 seconds, due to a combination of the two reasons above.
maybe im missing something but it feels like playing rose vs sagat, except rose doesnt have reflect, super or ultra.
As an Apharmd C player, who wants close distance, Iāve found Watari dashing is key to damage Dordray, dash sideways to avoid the drill/claw and then change your dash direction to forword dash, and attack while dashing forward only in order to do more damage and penetrate his V-armor.
Of course. your playing Angelan, who doesnāt really want to get too close, so i guess the best plan is utilze your V-armor reducing moves, usually LTRW attacks and play a very pateint game of long range keep away.
Didnāt even know there was a third oneā¦
But yeah, we should cut down.
Thatās all sheās good for. >_>
Try using her ice shield(CW+LT) more, it can block all of Dordrayās projectiles, drill ānā claw included. If you notice it charging at you, try using Angelanās RW+RT, freezes him up, can follow up with an easy dashing CC.
⦠Thatās all I got. Probably not much help, sorry.
thanks for the responses. looks like i just need to step my turtle game up. i definitely dont use the ice shield enough (partially due to how AWESOME analog triggers are) so ill try to work that into my gameplan.
I already main Specineff and Iām thinking of picking up Raiden as a secondary. Anyone want to give me pointers using him? He canāt dodge worth a dime and I feel like itās impossible to properly vector and catch an opponent. His turbo is as long as Temjinās at least, but most of the time Iām banking on psychic CWs and lucky RW hits. His LW also feels useless. Decent players will never give me a chance to punish with Binary Lotus and I have no idea how to cow them in, especially if weāre too far from the edges/corners of the map.
The only time itās really guaranteed for me is close range. A quickstep back and Iāma firin my lazahs, since his CW double-lock requires you to be almost touching your opponent. xD But, no one ever lets me get that close.
āPsychic CWsā, lulz. But yeah, thatās key. Try luring your opponents close to the walls of the stages, predict when theyāll dash away from them and fire your CW before hand. Stun your opponents for a few seconds with itās CW+LT and get a quick RW+RT. His side-dashing CW works pretty well if your opponent gets too close. If possible, try conserving your CW guage by letting only one laser go(releasing the trigger of the side you donāt wish to fire immediately before Raiden fires off itās CW), you can do this with itās CW+LT as wellāthough I canāt recall if youāre left with enough guage to follow up with a single shot of his CW or not.
Also, when youāre low on health, use Raidenās Armor Break(Special mid-jump) when you think itās safe. Sheds all of itās armor and becomes the fastest thing in the game, but loses all of itās healthāone hit will take you out. But try not to fire off any of your weapons while dashing about if at all possible, might get stuck in a corner while recovering. Dash cancels, punish with his CW.
⦠I think there was a way to fire off itās CW diagonally, canāt remember how though. There was also a way to increase the rate of fire of itās RW temporarily, but I donāt even know if itās possible on the standard control scheme. Whenever I hop back on, Iām going to have to give Raiden a lilā test drive.
The RW rate of fire increase can be done on control pad to, you just shake the movement stick while firing. Unless thereās some other glitch that lets you fire faster WHILE moving in a single direction.
the CW āV-laserā thing was mentioned on the oratan forum somewhere too.
hrm⦠i accidently unsubscribed this threadā¦does anyone know how to resubscribe?
edit: nevermind
Yeah I already know the RW glitch. I donāt think it works with Raiden since he already fires (not much) faster while moving around.
Iāve heard of but never seen the V-laser before by the way, none of the Japanese players do it in matchvids nor any of the ones I played online. Which makes me wonder if itās useful enough to be used.
V-laser is like super hard just frame timing at the end of certain dash attacks or something like that, so donāt expect to see it every round or anything.
This video has a player using v-lasers (registration required, I think):
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm7005709
In the video he is probably practicing it, since he tries to use CW after a lot of dashes, but cancels out of it if there is no V-Laser.
Raidenās LW is useful as harassment, but you can get some small hits from it. A standard tactic I see is to cancel some of the LW animation time by immediately using RW attacks immediately after the LW comes out. The LTCW is useful as harassment, but with practice you can get direct hits with it. The standard tactic is to freeze the opponent with LTCW, then follow up with RTRW for some decent damage. The problem with this is that the opponent can get out of the freeze, so you have to be fast with the RTRW. You can switch it up by doing an RTRW, then immediately going for a direct hit LTCW⦠the RTRW will be very difficult to avoid in this case.
on the plus side, raiden kills stuff really fast
my leading cause of death against raiden: ill get a pretty good life lead (yeah, hes pretty bad at dodging), go in for the kill and dodge into a laser. now im at low life and then get hit by something else and die.
now i just turtle like a bitch because i dont trust myself to not be dumb
ā¦
anyone good with angelan? shes what i consider my āmainā (although i suspect i win more overall with fei yen or temjinā¦) and i was wondering why i dont see a lot of ice pillars in japanese match vids. i like the move a lot; it covers a ton of space, stays out a while, and goes through certain objects. i also get it a lot when i try to do the LTLW, a move i do see a lot in match vids, because of how AWESOME analog triggers in a digital game are. so why are snowflakes > pillars?
also, color edit is disappointing. you dont get enough control over all the colors
As a (not so good) Raiden player, I tend to aim my laser so the opponent will dash into it (Yes, psychic lasers indeed). I also throw lots and lots of Ground Napalm (LW) because it only takes 50% weapon energy; I tend to throw two in a row if possible (one normal, one crouching). CrLW also follows the opponent. The RT version can create additional explosions but Iām not sure how it exactly works.
As for the bazooka (RW), Iām trying to break the habit of dash-attacking with it; only front dash bazookas seem to be worth a damn, and you typically donāt want to get in close range with most of the cast (For what itās worth, RTLW seems to be Raidenās fastest Close combat move). RTRW hurts if you hit with it, and CrRW can be used for some harassment (better rate of fire than standard RW).
And yeah, Armor Break is a last-resort option.
I donāt use Ang, but the pillars donāt appear very useful. They have poor homing and speed, and are blocked by bombs, so they are easy to avoid. This also makes them relatively poor harassment techniques.
On the other hand, snowflakes can be effective if used correctly. They do pretty good damage, so opponents will try to avoid them. If they are well timed, they can force an opponent to jump, or otherwise dodge them, which can be used to setup a follow-up attack.
