Virtual-On

I’m really liking Bal-Bados so far, just running around filling the arena with projectiles. Also its walk makes me giggle.

Bal-bados is really fun. detaching one arm and making it shoot while you fire from the other is top tier.

I was worried that the position of the analog not being even would screw up my attacks. I use the dual analog to mimic a twinstick. The 360 control setup is way superior to the Saturn and DC pad.

Online feels lagless. Most of my opponents are from Japan.

I was able to play some matches while my 360 turned on for an hour or so before it died again!

I got beasted by Japanese players, that makes me want to really learn this game more :bgrin:

Yeah, the connection is great, especially since the most players you face are from Japan

Good games Keit and baddude!

Neat trick I’ve found with robot that has napalm bomb (example, Apharmds’ LWs): Throw it, then depending on what side your opponent decides to retreat, you get on other side of the napalm then dash along it and it will provide you protection from non penetrating attacks! I hope that makes sense.

I was kinda sad to find out that Specineff’s big purple ball (RT+LW) did not provide protection from any weapons, but then that would be too good, haha. However it’s awesome for concealing myself, so they will not expect big wave (his CW) come bursting out of the ball.

VOOT is just so awesome. I never thought I would say I love trying to evade Angelan’s various dragon attacks, or Bal Bados’ random flying attacks coming from all directions! It feels so satisfying after successfully evading all kinds of attacks while still keeping my opponent in sight.

Yeah no joke. Great games to you too. You stepped it up from yesterday!

is it just me or is it kinda hard (or harder than it should be) to do the turbo + attack moves if youre using the xbox360 triggers? i pretty much have to be standing still for 1-2 seconds and try REALLY HORD to press the buttons at the same time. if i try to do it any faster the turbo doesnt register or something.

Indeed. I use Grys-Vok’s Quad-Napalm (CrLW) a lot for that reason. It could just be me, but it seems like bombs block a lot more attacks than in 5.45. Went up in a Raiden mirror match and I was surprised when I blocked a laser with a ground napalm.

you just have to make sure you press it at the same moment. Of course the fact that the triggers are analog when this entire game was digital doesn’t help =/

That’s funny, because I remember “blocking” Raiden’s lasers (lasers goes visibility through, but the hit is gone from it) with Temjin’s bomb only if lasers is shot from outside of blast radius back in original Virtual On! However, if Raiden was inside of blast radius from Temjin’s bomb, the lasers will hit. I suspect they’d carry that kind of properties from previous versions to VOOT.

I agree about 360 pad’s finicky controls, especially trying to use button and trigger at the same time. Practice makes perfect! I had trouble trying to do Specineff’s tackle attack. I was reading old FAQs saying it’s crouch+forward dash+CW. I tried crouching first then dashing but no luck, but it turned out that I had to dash forward first then crouch plus center weapon. This game’s so full of obscene things it’s making me dizzy!

edit: VVVV Dude, the first time I saw a FUCKING HUGE BOMB flying out of your back, I was like “Oh, this isn’t good!” Haha! When it goes off I can even see the huge blast from behind me. So awesome.

This game is far too much fun. Great games earlier kiets and crazy. I’m loving the nuke hardcore, I wish I could figure out some more reliable ways of getting it to hit. Both the Vok’s are awesome gimmick machines.

Don’t have to call them gimmicks, they’re good haha

still trying to figure out what the hell i’m doing but it’s fun as shit… never could figure out how it played in the arcade. add me for future games!

I think I’m gonna spend some time crunching numbers for what damage on a bunch of stuff does, as I have little better to do with my time. Starting with GRYS-VOK because he’s awesome, but I’ll probably take /r/s on order after that.

Edit: Wow, I don’t know how useful these numbers are going to be, but I am finding a lot of cool attacks I didn’t even know about, and lots of random other little details that I either didn’t know or had confused. Theres just a crazy number of different attacks in this game.

Do note that VRs have different health levels depending on what their opponent is (yeah, it’s weird). Plus, some VRs seem to have resistance to certain attacks (prime example would be Raiden’s Laser versus Fei-Yen and the Apharmds; it does less damage than it should against them).

probably to keep the game balanced. If raiden’s laser wasn’t gimped against fei specifically she’d probaby get wrecked in one shot. yeesh.

I just played the trial.

man it got way more fun since the dreamcast days. gonna pick this shit up real soon.

Yea, I knew about that. I’m just doing everything against Temjin for now so that it’s all sort of consistant. If I have to error-check it against other opponents later I will.

Damn, Dordray’s drill is serious. Just got wrecked by a Dordray player who would drill me if I stopped moving for more than a millisecond. Also, is it just me or do the controls seem unresponsive sometimes? Sometimes my air dashes just don’t come out, no matter when I press the buttons. It’s weird. Same with turbo attacks. Sometimes they just don’t wanna come out.

It seems like in order to have air dashes come out, you have to jump while not holding any direction, then quickly press a direction and dash. For some reason if you are already holding the direction when you jump, it doesn’t like coming out.

what bars do you guys usually play at?
