Virtual-On

good stuff

Thanks for the link.

This is wrong. The images show the new VR shadowing (they look like the shadows in the Model 3 arcade VER.5.4, rather than the DC VER.5.45 and Naomi arcade VER.5.66). The different weapon glow in the images is due to the attack being at a different point in the animation.

I wouldn’t spend too much time on it.

I’m not sure why either.

I forgot what DOI-2 dashes are. Rowing is a way to move faster than normal, and is mostly if not entirely gone from VER.5.4 and up. It should probably go in a general “fast movement” section since there are various other ways to move fast in VER.5.66.

Maybe just include a basic stub page.

They could be included if the FAQ will include some single player strategy… i.e. generally how to beat Bradtos and Tangram, or tips for each VR.

I’m not sure what you mean here… do you mean the freeze time from landing on the ground from the air? In that case it is similar to the dash freeze cancel… i.e. just do an attack when you land, typically some crouching LT attack.

Yeah, that was unclear. I’m talking about the time it takes to stand back up after being knocked down. Sometimes it seems to take a lot longer than normal, and I don’t know if there’s a command you can use to stand up earlier or not. I’ve also heard that attacking immediately after standing up cuts the invincibility time short, but that doesn’t always seem to be the case for me and I’m not sure why.

Thanks for the reply though. I don’t have anything written down for dash freeze cancel as it is.

I wrote a huge post with additional info on freeze cancelling, here:

I don’t really know anything about variable knock-down time. For standing up faster, I made a post on it here:
http://www.oratan.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=71&p=1974#p1974

If you attack after standing up, the invulnerability time will be reduced, but theremay be some exceptions that I don’t know about.

Twin-Sticks are go, being manufactured by Hori. However, it’ll not only be online-only, but Sega may cancel the entire thing if preorders don’t meet their expectations. Price is 30,000 Yen (around $300) and it’ll hit mid November.

Wow, $300 for a stick you can only use online?

That sucks. =(

“online-only” in the sense that you can only order them online. >_>

$300 is a bit much though, and my money has to go to more important things. If it wasn’t for this whole preorder/limited release deal, I wouldn’t be worried. They’ll probably be even more expensive at places like Play-Asia if they start selling what’s left of them later on.

It’s going to be nearly half a year until they hit though. So hopefully things’ll change.

Lol, yeah I totally read that wrong. Well the other issue then is shipping would be killer I’m sure. probably around $350 in the end =/

My SRK Wiki account was approved, so I went ahead and created a VOOT page with the info I had posted previously. Feel free to make or suggest changes/additions as needed.

I want to finish a page for a single VR next, then use that page to create a template for the other VRs.

Good shit, man. Thanks a lot for throwing that up.

someone already post this? droooool

This probably isn’t the best place to ask this question but… Is this worth getting? I need something else other than a fighter. I played, or play the demo here and there and it’s fun, just don’t know how long the fun will last. Is there much depth to the game? And as far as online play do people still play it, and is the community large? Thanks!

But VOOT’s still a fighter, just a different kind.

If you enjoyed the demo, then pick it up. It’s only fifteen bucks. But you have to find yourself a group of folk to play with for party matches, because on top of the fact that the online community isn’t all that large, and mostly consists of overseas players with modded Twinsticks, it can be difficult to find a match due to a glitch(and sometimes, dashboard hangups–they might be related) that Sega is aware of, and should be patching up soon.

But it’s certainly worth it, as long as you have friends to play with. In addition to the guys here at SRK, try the Oratan forums.

Certainly.

The community actually isn’t that small considering VOOT has always been a niche game. However, most players are Japanese, so the lobby is busiest when it is night in Japan (so around 2-10AM Pacific time). Also, the majority of players (Japanese or otherwise) are actually using the control pad rather than modded Twin Sticks (seriously, a lot of players are just insanely good with the control pad).

Hopefully the connection bug gets fixed and makes a difference. I’m not sure if it is hard to get a game due to the bug, or other reasons.

So did everyone download the new update? It includes updated graphics, additional customization options, various bug fixes, and a spectator mode! I really like the spectator mode, it reminds me of the good old days playing VOOT at SHGL!

The update is out? I’ll grab it later today then. The screenshot with the improved lighting and shadowing looked really nice.

I just played this demo on XBl and it didnt feel like I was expecting… I passed on it

That’s too bad. It is difficult to get a feel for how deep this game is until you play a human opponent. VO is different from any other game in existence. It’s not like SF where one person attacks, the other has to block. In VO, both people can be always attacking nonstop.

The second unofficial online tournament is this weekend, and this time they will be able to accommodate non-Japanese speakers!! Details in English will be posted on the tournament organizer’s blog:
http://voot360.blog46.fc2.com/

The details have already been posted here:
http://www.oratan.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=170

It’s this Sunday at 9PM Japanese time, so any US players wanting to join will have to wake up early!

Is anyone interested in joining?
