Virtua Stick High Grade & Hori Fighting Stick 3

And how about you, do you find any cons in HRAP3?What do you wish was different?I am nervous about using it on MAME, I do not know anything about PS3, or digital/analog modes.

Will the problems with multiple buttons inputs, be resolved if I change the PCB?

I kinda wanna use one for GG:AC.

Change the PCB with what exactly? if you’re gonna replace it with a HRAP3 PCB, then you might as well just stick with the HRAP3.

I have an “S” engraved on my VSHG (in fact, I own two of these sticks), and still have the multiple button input problem.

I was thinking of using a PS2 or PSone Dualshock PCB.
I just like the shape and size of the stick itself.

Indeed, it is a very, very sexy case.

I don’t have an HRAP3, only an HRAP2, but there are no differences. If you search the forums, you’ll find that people have had no problems with the HRAP3 & MAME. Even this review says that it’s PC compatible

Here’s a thread that should reassure you

Hope that helps

Can anyone explain what is the difference between left/right analog and digital mode for the HRAP3?I do not like PS, and I have never used its controllers, I would stick with cheap PC-USB controllers, so I am a total PS n00b…It says that, to work HRAp3 on a PC, I must hit the PS/Home button to enable the stick…WTF I do not understand…I have decided to stick with HRAP3 and I have ordered two for about $ 250 total-since both VSHG and HRAP3 have the same stick, and the three button input is crucial for Mortal Kombat, which I am widely recognised at on of the best EU players :encore: I do not care about non-Sanwa buttons, as I have never even touched a Sanwa product-I have always used HAPPS on arcade machines.

On a PS controller, there’s a digital pad, a left analog stick, and a right analog stick. The sticks allowed for sensitive movement. They’re really useful for racing games for when you need to make slight steering adjustments while driving.

As for how this relates to the HRAP3, it just allows you to switch between the pad and the 2 sticks. Some games force the player to use the analog stick to move around, so you couldn’t play those games with the HRAP2. I guess this is Hori’s answer to the problem.

The PS/Home key is used to go back to the home/startup page of the PS3. It’s very similar to the home button used for the XBox 360. I guess you just need to tap the button to enable it. I believe the button is found in the small panel found on the top left part of the stick.

Just an FYI, since you are so used to Happ buttons, you may not like the light feel of the Hori buttons. When I first transitioned from American to Japanese parts, I found my self accidentally pressing buttons every now and then. I just wasn’t used to the light feel of the buttons.

I know that you don’t want to mod the sticks, but if you really hate the feel of the buttons or just can’t quite get used them, you can opt to buy Seimitsu buttons. They’re a bit closer to the harder Happ feeling. Also, if you don’t like the lollipop design of the joystick, you have the option of buying a Sanwa bat top replacement. Very easy installation for both the bat top and buttons.

I think I will follow your advice and get Sanwa/Seimistsu buttons, maybe even translucent, illuminated buttons, and a Happ-like top for the HRAP3, although 2 HRAP3s would then cost like hell.My only concern now is where to find all of this stuff in USA…Can anyone provide a non-eBay link?

Maybe I translated wrong? I have ‘M’ inscribed and have no input problems.

http://www.lizardlick.com - UK (Sanwa/Happ only)
http://www.akihabarashop.com - works from Sweden, but gets you parts fresh from manufacturer
http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=116457 - USA (not much Seimitsu stuff though)

BTW, I don’t think Sanwa or Seimitsu sells illuminated buttons. The translucent buttons you are talking about are Seimitsu PS-14-K buttons. The bat top is the Sanwa LB-30N.

No, you’re right. Engravings with either ‘S’ or ‘M’ are recalled sticks that are supposed to be fixed.

Perhaps my stick was a false positive.

Modding does sound difficult, and two HRAP3 are really xpensive, so maybe I think of keeping the stock Hori buttons-I have played cheap all-plastic joysticks for $ 20 for all my life, so a HRAp3, even with non-Sanwa buttons would be an overkill for me…

The only hard part to modding would be swapping out joysticks. Other than that, it’s pretty easy. You can check my modding guide for the HRAP2. Its step-by-step with lots of pictures.

It’s as simple as popping out the quick disconnects, popping out the buttons, and popping the new ones back in.

I am confused…check what Hahano told me a few days ago:

I wouldn’t recommend screw in buttons for the HRAP…they’ll fit…but not without making your fingers almost bleed from trying to wrench those things in there. Not to mention how difficult it will be to remove them. I would shoot for some Sanwa snap in buttons will work…you just have to sand down the little tab things…it’s pretty lame, actually. Also, I don’t think Ponyboy sells snap ins just yet, they’re on the “coming soon.” Just email me (in sig) and send me a pic of your stick and I can help you out some more.

And that is what URTH told me:

You would need 16x 30mm buttons (OSBF-30, OBSN-30 or PS-14-G, PS-14-GN) and 4x 24mm buttons (OBSF-24, OBSN-24 or PS-14-D, PS-14DN)

The screw ins fit in all the holes except for the buttons close to the stick. The mounting plate kind of gets in the way. Seimitsu nuts fit under if you pry the mounting plate up a little with a screw driver or pliers.

what the hell’s with the massive pic?

Yea. Sanwa screw-ins (OBSN-30) fit all the buttons except for the X button. It’s a really tight fit for a snap-in, but there’s no need to sand the tabs on a snap-in (OBSF-30) down. I’d recommend just buying all snap-ins, as that’ll make everything easier. If Ponyboy doesn’t have them, either wait till he does or buy from another vendor.

Here’s a guide to all of the buttons

http://www.akihabarashop.com/Orderfile/Akihabarashoporder.xls

This is Akihabarashop’s excel file that they use for their orders. Just use it as a guide unless you want to order from them. All of your options for buttons are there.

How easy would it be to put a PS1/2 PCB into a VSHG? I know the stick and main buttons aren’t a problem, but what about the little buttons on top of the stick? And for those that have a HRAP and a VSHG, how is the size difference? I can’t find anywhere that has the dimensions of the VSHG.

i don’t have a vshg but i’m sure that those small buttons have their own pcbs that you can wire to.

kind of like how i did this mod for a doa stick with psone pcb. by wiring to that top pcb i was able to keep those nipple style buttons operational.

I’m wondering the same thing, as I might be about to recieve a VSHG to rewire for PS2 use. It’s definately possible, as this Paik4life picture shows:

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a141/Paik4Life/VSHG/P1010660.jpg

The wires leading from PCB to the top most panel presumably lead to those smaller buttons on the top. Does anyone know which wires correspond to which buttons though?
