Virtua Fighter 5 IS online

Amen brotherman. Though it would be kind of funny too lol.

No fighting game online is frame to frame perfect. There are a few games where the connections are so good, that makes online play worth it (CFJ, HF, GGPO). And people saying that they win online don’t even matter. They get no props at all. Go read the MVC1 thread that was made a few weeks ago, think anyone cares about TKimura winning an MVC tourney online?? Or look at 3s, the 3s scene exploded after online play. So the truth is that no one cares about online players bragging about beating so and so. They just get put on ignore. The only place where i’ve seen it take the community apart is DOAC, but that’s mostly due to some of them being new to fighting games. It’s not gonna be much of a problem for places like here, TZ, or VFDC.

Due to me being in a somewhat vengeful mood.
I’m listing qoutes of from the people, who doubted me when I said “VF5 IS going to be online”.

I said.

In response.

Deathscythe.

Corner-Trap

Sorry, I just had to do this. For amusment mostly.
Anyway, to the VF5 players (I don’t play unfortunately). Have fun when it comes out.

PEACE.

I think its logical that people were skeptical about it coming to Xbox live with online play. I mean, All the people working on the game previously stated that it wouldn’t work and it would effect the perception of the game.

I agree with them, but I’m probaby still gonna play it online.

Duno, I get what you’re saying, but I don’t know any offline players who keep up on what’s been happening online. Whereas the online players know quite well who’s tops offline currently.

Gawd now al im left to wonder is how wil this game pay online…

Im guessing if they do a good job on the netcode it work amost perfectly with people close to you…crosses finges…and goes back to play some more a2 ggpo style

This will be cool

Yes, yes it will. Just how cool depends on what Sega does with the netcode. Seeing how skeptical AM2 was to include online play period, let’s hope that they’ll make it passable (possibly even good).

It’s the best news as a VF fan & fighting game fan that I’ve heard all year.

I’m really happy about this. I can understand why some PS3 fans would be annoyed though.

But I say VF online is a good thing overall. Getting started on the netcode should provide some insight with Sega/Am2 on where to take online features in further iterations of their game, ie with VF5 Evo (if that ever comes), or VF6, etc.

Has anyone played Virtua Tennis 3 for the 360?
Because that was Sega too, and they had a “view last match” option through xbox live which was extremely cool for watching anyone in your friends list last tennis match - the whole thing.

If AM2 can implement that idea into VFTV, but improve it so we can view anyone in the friends list - or anyone on the leaderbaords last couple of VF games - that’d be AWESOME!!! Infact, it could help add credibility to the online game. Because people would watch the top seeded players and decide for themselves whether it was lag that gave them the victory, or whther they know they game inside and out.

Damn, that is an awesome feature. That’d be so tight for so many online games I can think of.

I used to play VT3 a ton. Competition is surprisingly fierce online. When I saw VT.TV mode I just new AM2 had something like this in mind for VF5. I don’t use the feature much in VT, but in VF this is huge. I wonder if we will be able to save replays?

I agree 100%. They should update VT3 for this. They did update recently, but I’m not sure what they did besides adding rumble.

Well, we can only hope they improve the video replay features for VF 360.

As a VF5 PS3 owner I am pissed. But I guess it is needed for a fighter that comes out in North America to have online play. And if they release online play on ps3 it effects arcades in Japan to some degree. So there was no other way. Atleast if this builds popularity in North America I am happy. Damn I guess knee won’t come out due to lag :stuck_out_tongue:

lol, yeah…I could never do that knee move although when I played VF5 on PS3 it didn’t seem so hard.

Did they make it easier?

Despite the fact that I hate your username, I agree. If anything, such a move can only improve the vf scene. You can’t please everyone.

While I’ll admit that, as someone who also bought it for the PS3, I got a little sad as well, thinking it over, I’m LOVING the idea now, and I’m definetly going to pick it up again to support. I doubt that Sega will do an online update for the PS3 ala Namco with T5DR, but it’s good to hope no? Hell, did Sega make ANY of it’s games online for the PS3 yet? I know VT3 isn’t online(unless, that’s the only one).

Whether we care about it or not, online sells a game. From the various boards I have been to, many peeps are now buying this game because it has online. Hey, whatever it takes to increase the VF5 community is fine by me.

Nope, still comes down to one frame. Maybe you just got better lol.

VT3 also had different developers. AM2=PS3, can’t remember the name of the guys who did the 360 version.

Well, VT3 was soley developed by AM2, but the port was done by different studios (AM2 did the PS3 port and Sumo Digital did the 360).

The only difference I can tell between the two is that the PS3 version is ‘lighter’. I wouldn’t go so far as to say washed out, but it’s pretty noticable.

I don’t think Sumo Digital was responsible for the online mode. It’s called VT.TV as an homage to VF.TV and it just feels like AM2 had their hands in it. The net code is also really, really good and is something I would expect from a seasoned studio like AM2, not so much a small European team. But I could be wrong.
