Its been Akira Lau and Kage 2wice.

Totally agree. I recently read an interview with Fuudo I found on VFDC and he talked about a very good virtua fighter player that didn’t have much execution-wise, but had great yomi. VF is not about hitconfirming into big combos. It’s about reading your opponent. Sometimes you have to take the focus out of your own game and just observe what your opponent is doing. I’ve found out I get better results this way: Not thinking about what I want to do but about what my opponent is doing and is going to do.
I personally find myself doing something beyond just reading them, and I go into leading them.
I play Shun Di, and every match my first move I aim to land is a knockdown 1PK or just 1P, then I see how they react. Suprisingly, 1PK is one of his best spacing tools, and often it goes like this.
Match start: Block, punish unsafe with 1PK.
-> Opponent techs
-> Opponent lays there
Hit them with 1PK or any knock down
-> Grab punish their tech, +4 drink with the 66P+G
-> Flip on them
Repeat previous situation
-> Do it again
-> Do it again
Repeat previous situation
-> Opponent stays down this time, flip on them
-> Opponent starts teching, Grab punish
Repeat previous situation
-> Opponent crouch blocks, oh hell you’ve been punished.
Opponent’s reaction = Crouch block prevents it all
Knock them down
-> Opponent crouch blocks, make them eat an overhead
Basically using some proper tools, you can force your opponent to play a guessing game, the answer to which you know in the first few seconds. This is actually how I win most matches is that I punish the choices and get to 8+ drink in the first 20 seconds of the fight. From there its mix-up city, but since I exclusively play Shun Di on XBL, I find myself put against better Shun Di’s who I usually strike on par with. One of them even called me “Sober Di”, since most matches against him I won just by using basic spacing and punishes rather than the conventional “Hide and drink”. Most of the time, in fact, I don’t really get above 4 drinks in a full match set unless I have to. This is mainly because I never *need to *for the sake that my basic BnB takes care of most things.
Do I spam the 1PK? Its a good tool for spacing and some extra damage on combos, the knockdown is great. I don’t spam it like its my only move, but rather its my go-to button like Jacky’s backflip-kick. Opponent is applying heavy pressure? Make them eat a 1PK to keep them honest, and space them out with 1P. Its a great momentum breaker when you force them to block low in hopes of catching you, and you donkey kick them in the face for it.
Great info! I’m going to copy and paste this in the Shun Di thread if you don’t mind.
PS: I 1PK a lot too, although some people already know the drill and punish me for it.
The key is to use 1PK as a confirm and to end off stuff like a successful 4PK into 2PP 1PK into your guessing game, or a successful PPPK (rare as they are, they do come when your opponent expects the PP4P grab fake) into 1PK into your guessing game.
I’ll be there. :wgrin:
Someone is uploading all character arcade intros on youtube:

These are so much fun. I wish they had included them in the console version.
El Blaze is a lot of fun, but with him I’ve no chance with Eileen, haha. I don’t know if Aoi can be considered a grappler since she is a very reversal oriented character but she does have a formidable throw game.
Jeffry while more a brawler has good throws, he is not going to be any faster than Wolf. try Goh, he has alot of throws but is faster.
Aoi throw game is probably as good as Jeffery or Goh’s. But she doesn’t do a lot of damage. Her best throw 360+b is about 60 dmg, with a guaranteed down attack for about 70. But guys like Wolf get 80 on one throw

Goh is sort of like a hybrid character.
Yeah same here and I wish they allowed this stage to be selectable:

You come across in the the 50th and 100th challenge in the licence mode. (Note challenges above 50 are unlocked by beating the first 50 in challenge, the next 50 are the exact same challenges but harder difficulty.)
edit:
Same background and a very determined Akira player!

Shew having one of those damn salty ass days, I got my 100th win though. I guess thats something but I finally gotta sit and work on combos again cause I got my ass handed to me a few times today
trying to add Lions 4P+K into my game as its a good combo setup but charge attacks are still really wonky for me
There’s nothing really ‘slow’ about Wolf compared to any other character. Basically everyone has the same 12 frame high/low p, 14f mid. Wolf has a 17f 6k which is the same speed as Jacky’s launcher or any other standard launcher. Playing a different character isn’t going to make you magically better vs. Brad, he will have the same basic tools vs any other character. I think it would be a better idea to take Brad into training mode and learn the character so you can learn how his moves work and how to counter them.
First time really playing VF and still getting used to this game. The online is pretty damn smooth so far even with some people with one bar. I was running with Aoi but wasnt really having any success with her so I switched it up to Lau, then Brad, and now Pai. Really like how she plays and I’m having fun using her. Don’t think there is a Pai Chan thread though so I guess I just have to look for stuff elsewhere. :V
Open a Pai thread! We are all learning the game together. Someone should open it anyway.
There is no Kage thread either.
Comin home I jus realized it was shag’s goh that eliminated me today at the stickbug tourney…
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Was at the Next Level Tourney, Got MindF**K by this Jean player who defense dodge alot!!! Kept punishing with circular attacks(because wouldn’t block them) It was if if he was playing Tekken cause he went for a 50% damage combo every time i whiffed.
Ah well back to training
