Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown console thread

Had my first hatemail. I’m a defensive pussy that does hit and run pokes and doesn’t combo :frowning:
Guess what, not everyone starts off the round with PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP.

I prefer it. I only really get salty when I think I got robbed. So lag or shit like that can make me lose even if I’ve played the better match. But if the guy is plain better than me, and we’re playing on the same terms. Then I’m fine with losing.

I only get salty when fighting against lion. Cos fuck that guy.

Hey guys! GGs to everyone i’ve played so far. Whats going on, Bomberman. I think we played yesterday and I thought you were my buddy joey (betabow). I have been solely on XBL recently but I will prolly jump on psn in a week or so as well so for the guys on there I haven’t played yet, see you soon!

I think my old account got locked when the forums got updated here so I had to create a new one.

Still having a hard time being patient sometimes. I forget it isn’t my turn to attack so to speak and eat a healthy dose of punches lol.

I can’t praise the online for this game enough, barely much lag at all and rank matches are very nicely done with the rankings et all.

Hey there! Yeah the online has been much improved since the last version and im pretty stoked around that.

Depending on what your opponent is doing, after they block your attack, you might not always have to always guard. Sometimes you can evade instead and immediately attack to keep the advantage if your opponent is only attacking with a linear or fast attack. Don’t be afraid to try to steal turns "sometimes  ". I like to do it as long as I’m not getting caught. :stuck_out_tongue:

Can I add you on PSN? What’s your tag?

Man, I haven’t fought a single Taka online.

I play quite a good diversity of players. Run into a lot of Brads and Jacky. I’ve ran into a few Takas, who I’m completely free too. Also run into a good amount of Lei’s and Vanessas.

You’re lucky. Taka in the right hands is a nightmare. 2P is your friend!

it’s L_A_Akira

Haha, hell yeah.
Lau needs a parry :frowning:
I really should have saved that replay of our fight.

For all the stuff about Jeffry being low tier, I’m doing better with him than I was with Brad. I think it might be that Brad is hard to play against abare mashing fools. Jeffry, I can play very basic and just using 2P, P and 6P without worrying about stance based mix ups.

This happened with SCV also, I was using Mitsu, debatedly one of the top 3 in the game, and then went to Aeon, on the bottom of the tier list, and never looked back. sometimes a character just clicks.

I play Taka/Jeff. Fat man has massive damage, punishment, good range, great mixup throw game, decent lows, frame junk, setups, and doesn’t catch all the standard juggles, but will eat extra shit sometimes if he doesn’t tech stuff. Powerhouse character all around. If you’re on PSN, hit up FlyMike45.

Yo! Look out for a friend request from FlyMike45. Save room for me sir. I need to play high level competitive VF players, but most of them seem to be on XBL from Ver. C still. Anytime you see me on, get at me if you’re free.

You gotta remember, tiers are based on the comparisons of characters being utilized at the highest level. And also placings at major events. So I don’t think it’s dependent on, or correlates with your personal success in online ranked matches lol.

That being said, I don’t think he’s underwhelming at all. Hell, even Jacky was low on the first tier list, now look lol. Even still, I can definitely see why he was better on paper in R. But I love Jeff. Dude is dangerous point blank. His mid game is beast and he oozes creativity. His lows leave a bit to be desired now and he kinda has to find his way in the newer FS system, but I don’t think it’s a struggle.

FS seems pretty balanced, as the last few VF games virtually were. You can argue that the players make the tiers, since in this game above some others, you can outright say that on competitive level you are truly fighting the other player. Tiers shouldn’t decide or dictate who you use anyway (certain ones anyway). Every fg I take seriously or travel for I always seem to gravitate towards lower regarded characters, and I can still get my fair share of wins against top or solid players. It’s all about how you use what that character has to develop a style that works and switch it up accordingly. Execute, react, anticipate, mindfuck, and take the appropriate risks.

If any VF tourneys happen at a major I’m at, and Taka gets too dull and can’t seem to pull it off for me for some reason, best believe Jeff is coming out of pocket. Instantly. And fuck a matchup, ratio, and counterpick. Common sense, knowledge, and outplaying ftw.

It’s really hard to find information online for the game. Which reminds me that I/someone should make a Jean thread.

Correct.

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

XBL gamertag = TheHolyVagabond

I already thought about it. Id have some setups and combos to contribute, but i cant think of something witty for the thread title :frowning:
Also to LA:
Di you have experience with fighting europeans? It seems to go pretty smooth for me, but i usually dont ask where people are from…

Jeffery does really good damage and it’s easy. So he’s better at taking out random scrubs. Still Jeffery has to take a few risk to get his damage off. His launcher is -15 on block. And most of his ways to start combos are all punishable on block. He doesn’t have any sabakis or inyashi’s that go into his combos. Still Jeff can be a beast. He’s my secondary character. Plus this is VF, so any character is viable. I mean I’ve seen wall combos with Jeff that do 175 dmg, almost 75% damage. and he can get like 90 to 100 mid screen.

I played a couple of Americans from I believe the east coast and the connection was fine for 95% of the time. I’m from Holland.

Sweet. I guess I could try it then.
Also mind if I add you warlike?

Please do. I love playing a lot of matches in succession against a single opponent, it helps one to improve and adapt/learn much faster than random online matches against various opponents or varying skill. I’m new at VF and 3D fighters in general though so don’t expect any miracles!

I kind of noticed that the flow of matches in VF is similar to the ones in street fighter 3s: both reward aggressive play, however in both games you also need to be on the lookout for the breaking point (‘stealing someones turn to attack’). Except in VF that has more to do with knowing which attack the opponent does and how much frame (dis)advantage he has, and in 3S the ability to parry an attack. Heh, I thought it was a interesting correlation.
