Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown console thread

I’ve got a few things to share as well. We just need to gather and share the information. I think I need more experience with him. I basically played Brad, then I played Jean over the weekend to learn him better. Now my Brad is bad and my Jean isn’t good as my Brad was…

Like the comparison to 3rd Strike, I see what you mean.

That was very insightful. Ill add you today. Looking forward to some matches. Im pretty new myself though, but i already noticed how ranked play is corruupting my playstyle.
Im adapting to stuff nobody intelligent would ever do Iike spamming Wolfs rams or Laus roundhouse kicks. Hope we have some good matches.
See you then:)

Also for the Jean thread: I think im gonna make one today. I just have some work to do before, so prabably later.

This is my last week here at home before I leave on extended vacation, so if you’re on the West Coast then please add me

I haven’t played an Eileen online yet (actually I barely play online, a couple days ago I beat the last of the special sparring teams) but so far I’m pretty free to her mix up where she jumps and can grab you if you’re standing, or do a low kick combo, or an overhead. Always gets to me.
I mainly play Lei Fei, but I also dab a bit in Vanessa and El Blaze. Well actually I sort of dip into a good chunk of the roster but they’re my favorites right now. But Lei is always my number one. I have my personal bread and butter on lock, but the full combo only works on the weightclasses below whatever Jeffry and Wolf are. I have a variation for those guys. Thing is it starts with a launcher that’s waaay unsafe haha (it’s 1P+K). I love beating guys with the combo and then just keep on doing Bokutai (the hand slam on the floor). It’s like a taunt to me.

I play Mitsu too

People usually don’t know low tier characters well and that’s what makes them great characters. I think an Aeon player reached the Shadaloo Showdown finals though.

Sorry for the offtopic guys!!!

3K+G, K is a great taunt for Lei too!

I think we should compile a list of moves that could work as taunts. I’m guessing any P+K+G stances work. There’s Vanessa’s “come on” taunt when she’s on the ground, and the two mentioned above for Lei (is 3K+GK the one-legged stance?).

3K+GK is the double headflips. It’s even better when you get the KO during a juggle and ending with it.

Sounds like a great idea.

WOO after being -20 on m w/l ratio at one point I’ve finally broken even with a 80/80, big moment for me, first time I’ve regained a losing record in a fighting games big moment for a noob

That said I’m having some BIG issues fighting Sarah any tips from anyone?

Who do you use?

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

As a Sarah player, it’s tough for me to break offenses without using 2p. I think if I was facing a Sarah, I would try to play a long range game because other than her 66K, she’s really got nothing from long range you should fear. Her Slides feel gimmicky. Learn to duck the 2nd part of many of her 2-hitters that go into FL (3pk, 6p4k, 1k+gk) and punish/2p them.

Ran into EmX wolf today and got downloaded free. After playing him, 3 matches were enough to get my # but TBH I’m happy. He exposed specific things almost as if he was trying to show me through the game what I needed to work on. I got Defender rank but in Japan I would be a 4th dan or something, a lot of new VF players so it isn’t hard to get that rank. Also faced a good El Blaze and Brad player and I’m starting to see the diversity on PSN which is great. Welp time to work on fuzzy guarding…

Well this has been a good experiment into the realm of 3D fighting games, but I really have come to realize I will never enjoy or be as proficient at them as I am in 2D fighting games. Maybe it’s just VF specifically, but I just never get in a ‘flow’ and the game’s general slowness just doesn’t appeal to me. Fought a bunch of guys online and lost pretty much everything except for the odd win due to me rage mashing after so many losses haha. I also get the feeling that I don’t fully ‘get’ or grasp what VF is all about. I know it’s a game of ‘taking turns’ and all that jazz. But as soon as a match starts and the other player starts PPPP and I’m forced to block and guess high/low/throw and I can’t get any of my moves in there, it just makes me not enjoy it.

Now obviously quite a share can be contributed to the fact I’m new, I realise that naturally. However my number one requirement is to have a fun time (regardless of wins or losses). I find myself getting frustrated waaaaaayy too easily with VF (’‘oh come on all she did was pppp and knocked me out of the ring’’)combined with me not getting something fundamental about this game series makes me sadwarlikey. What makes it even worse is that on paper everything about this game sounds like heaven to me. No fireballs and bullshit? sign me up goddam! 3 buttons yet considered the most complex fighter where you fight the polayer instead of the character generally? here’s my soul Sega!

Not sure why the fuck I post this, guess just some general thoughts on the less enthousiastic spectrum of VF newbs.

Dude the game is still brand new lol and TBH you might be running into vets who have played this for years. Don’t even think about dropping this game at least for 3 months, the more you learn the more you get rewarded.

What’s your PSN? I need to make my Jean not free like pennies on the street.

Sarangha-

I’ll probably be on this Saturday and hopefully we can get SW and FlyMike in a room.

Cool, I sent a FR. Gotta level up fast. Can’t lose to ScrubBeta and have him document losses on his stream. =(

I am just…bad at this game. I’ve been much better since I first started, but man, I’m still ass. Some of my main problems (mainly in 3D fighters period) is simply not knowing how to guard against certain attacks. Sometimes what I think is a low attack actually ends up hitting me even if I’m blocking low, and vice versa. What I can say is I’m far better at throw teching than I thought I’d be, but overall, I’m just lacking. I realized this when I ran into some Shun Di player. He read me like a book and effortlessly handed my ass to me while sipping on his drink. I tried my best to remember all of Akira’s moves during the command list training, but I wasn’t sure which moves I needed to keep in mind.

But I really like this game. It’s a lot of fun. I just don’t know how to be good at it. I fully understand that it’s not an overnight process to be good at this–especially when you’ve been upsent from the game since Virtua Fighter 2 on Genesis. So, what’s the most effective way to train in Virtua Fighter?

I’ve just recently started using eileen and she is hilarious, I think if I stick to her we could have a beautiful relationship

some guy sent me a message after losing to my sarah saying “HUUURRRR FLASH KICK”… he uses Goh

I’ve pretty much lost all of the last 30 games I’ve played. I need someone to play to help me. Because I can’t actually learn how to fight with Jean. May just drop Jean because I just can’t use him as well as I’ve seen others…

I still have you on my FL on PSN so we can play some time but my Jean is pure ass. Pretty sure you’ll stomp me out but I can take a hefty beating. I was trying to play Jean as a RTSD character but someone said he’s like a zoner with all that range he has. So I’m trying to play him like SF Bison and bully with pokes.

If Jean doesn’t work out for me, I’ll go back to my VF main Jacky.
