Good shit man, see it’s all in the small improvements and a change in attitude.
I see a lot of 2D players struggling with the “turn based” nature of the game. They think of things like block strings and pressure, and low strongs, which just isn’t how VF is played.
I’m seeing some high ranked players with red faces aka rage quit icon but I’m wondering is it their fault? I remember 3SO doing dumb stuff like increasing your disconnect percentage when the other person quit.
Honestly, you should write an article on this stuff. I read this and then went and played VF5 and SC5 – started to win immediately where there were primarily only losses before, haha. Seriously, this simple fact absolutely blew my mind - thanks!
The same thing kind of applies to tekken. All about (frame) adv vs disadv. Use the quicker, less disadv on block tactics to set up the big attacks. Sometimes you can gamble and take the risk to attack when you’re not supposed to because the other person is thinking a “smart” player would block to minimize risk.
Not a problem man, it is hard to not get salty when you don’t win but with the right mentality and determination it can be a sodium free learning experience.
On the subject of taking turns the hard part is when you get a hit and can capitalize on your situation by picking the right moves when you are at + frames, def easier said then done.
This is the problem I have right now. Too many times, I manage to launch the opponent but I don’t pull off the right moves, so the opportunity is wasted.
I hear you man, for me it comes down to just playing and owning 1 main for a long time with a new game and having all his options in muscle memory. Its better to be really good at 1 character then mediocre\shitty with 4.
I am having a hard time remembering to ground tech as soon as I am knocked down, I learned so many of my combos don’t actually work when the opponent quick rolls to the side.
I know I had my router poop out on me at the vs screen in just one game and I had the neutral looking face for awhile, but after a good chunk of matches it went back to smiley.
I do think someone with a anger face is likely a potential dropper, but this game seems quite strict with the rating…
I almost have 200 matches under my belt and haven’t had any issues with dropping yet.
ugh. today has been a fucking crazy ride. like 4 of my friends bought the game and we have played all day. I’ve been getting good with Eileen and at least people are sending GG’s. But damn have I had a overall bad day for losses but I’m SLOWLY learning things but sometimes I just can’t do anything especially when I’m trying to do my combos with Eileen, I do better just using the game plan of choosing lion and ALL DEM LOW ATTACKS and trying to loop some OTG stuff. I feel like a scrub using that tactic but damn is this game fun and is Lion just as fun to use as Eileen is, I also don’t get anywhere near as salty as I do with Marvel 3 playing virtua fighter which is awesome
I hope I get word on a new job soon so I can afford some of them customize packs
I’ve had 120+ matches this far and only 2 rage droppers. First was a Wolf player. We played one match and he won. We played another one and I was winning, so he quits and sends me a message calling me noob and what not and I’m like WTF, so if you win I’m the friendly noob but if I win I’m the evil noob? LOL Another one was an Akira that quit when Shun Di was already in his win animation. The point is I noticed people rejecting my matches afterwards. So when people drop out on you your rating gets worse?!?!
Not necessarily, in Tekken spacing, mixups, moves that crush and safe moves are a really big part of the game, for example Lili can keep the pressure going for ages with 1,2 df2, she can punish with side step hopkick and not worry about losing momentum if it’s blocked (because it’s safe!) and her Crouch Dash moves go under a lot of highs. Maintaining momentum takes a lot of guesswork and mindgames in all three games but block strings and pressure matter much more in SC5 and VF5.
I haven’t played VF for years, but I must say the transition from Lili to someone like Eileen has not been beneficial for me, I really want to keep the offence going but it’s just not a good idea. Which sucks seeing as Eileen has so many stylish strings and mixups… To string all her moves together takes a lot of execution…
It’s been a couple years since I’ve played VF5 but I think Eileen’s jab is the fastest in the game. She’s also got fuckloads of moves that crush high and low.
It does suck though, Eileen feels like the Ling of the game, she’s got some nice tools but it feels like you need to work a lot harder to get the damage some other characters do… With three temporary stances, a couple of just-frame moves and so many strings, she’s one of those characters that remind you why VF5 is considered one of the most complicated games out there.
And FUCK. How do you beat out Lion players? Seriously… I HATE that guy.
I get so salty vs Lion. I sometimes rage and yell at my TV that anyone can play that fucking character! and then I drink some water, reduce my sodium level and go back into training mode and work on my ant-Lion strat’s.
