Akira has some stuff that’s pretty execution-heavy, but I think he’s definitely capable of winning without it. I hardly ever see top Akiras use the one-frame knee and even the guard break combo kinda rare.
Those are specifically the things I can’t do >_>
Lightweight, LightMiddleweight, HeavyMiddleweight, Heavyweight, and Taka
This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:
Lightweight = Sarah, Pai, Eileen, Aoi
LightMiddleweight = Vanessa, El Blaze, Goh, Brad, Kage, Lei-Fei, Shun, Lion
HeavyMiddleweight = Lau, Jacky, Akira
Heavyweight = Wolf, Jeffrey
Taka = ???
I thought Blaze and Eileen were the lightest. Everyone else in lightmid except for Akira, Jacky, Jean. Then Wolf and Jeff. Finally Taka.
But I could be wrong.
Woah woah woah woah…
Just got done with playing people in the UMC3 OTT thread and I have to say: online for this game is very very good.
It actually feels like I’m playing offline.
It took me forever trying to find this -__-
Super Light Weight: Eileen = El Blaze
Light Weight: Aoi < Sarah = Shun = Pai = Lion = Vanessa
Middle Weight: Lau = Kage = Lei = Brad = Goh
Heavy Middle Weight: Akira = Jacky = Jean
Heavy Weight: Dural < Jeffry = Wolf
Super Heavy Weight: Taka
VFDC reference and it’s also listed here.
Correct, the VFDC system guide at the top of the page references VF5 vanilla.
I can’t tell you when Myke or wiki contributors will change it but I will address it to Myke.
Just throwing it out there but the official Sega forums for this game are bare. Feel free to help us out.
Link?
completely forgot to add it to my post…I’d already copied the link and everything

The background in challenge 50 is probably one of the best backgrounds in the game imho, very sad you can’t select it.
[details=Spoiler]
An alt version of Dural’s background where the pillars are floating in space, you can see earth and the sun. It was beautiful…
Customization question: did they remove glowing bracelets and a bunch of items from the arcade version? I saw youtube vids of Jean Kujo with glowing bracelets that left cool trails in the air, as well as items that seemed to give new win poses, but i can’t find them here after purchasing the customization pack. I read that a few items that had brilliant visual effects like sparks, light trails, etc when added to certain costumes caused slowdown in the arcades sometimes, and I’m wondering if they were eliminated for the home version…or if they are now limited them to certain costumes.
They’re definitely still around, don’t know how you’re missing them?
I’ve seen them, certain costumes only I think.
Having serious trouble punishing spammers. If i successfully block, i cant seem to land anything other than P,K - low punch isnt enough to dissuade them from continuing to spam, Evade pays off sometimes but is too risky imo. Mids seem so slow.
Is it necessary to know other character’s combo’s to defend/punish properly? I’m trying VF seriously for the first time, and everthing seems like a frame trap. Its pretty frustrating to try to be thoughtful and deliberate w/ your game only to have someone mindlessly tap K and win. I’m maining Jeffry and having trouble w/ Sarah ( >50% of who i run into) and Jean.I would appreciate some advice on how to deal with this.
I think you might have to look at the frame data on this one…
Find a quick move that you can throw out in the event that your opponent throws out something that might seem like it’s unsafe; for Akira, I kinda settled on 46P since it has like 14 frame startup (2 frames slower than 5P) and is +1 if blocked (sucks for me if whiffed though, since it’s a high move).
But, yes, the frame data is godlike.
Like, I only recently learned that 2P was -5 on block… so if someone enjoys mashing that move, you have 17 frames (5 frames recovery + 12 frame startup for 2P) until the next 2p comes out…
I use Akira’s P+G, which starts up in 16 frames in order to blow up the second 2p (assuming I predicted it correctly).
Yeah, I think DKL has the right idea. It’s always good to know your character’s fastest damaging punisher. Also, keep in mind that in VF, whenever two moves collide, the one that does more damage wins out. That information comes in very handy against 2P spammers.
Cool, did not know this.
Also, can someone explain moves with special properties like Vanessa’s 1P?
(I think that move beats everything except elbows?)
I haven’t checked out other characters yet, but does the command list like give you info on this stuff?
Vanessa 1P is a sabaki against 2P and maybe most other lows. Not quite sure.
Unfortunately the command list on VFDC doesn’t indicate which types of moves that sabakis can deflect, just that they’re sabakis.
Still helpful, though: http://virtuafighter.com/commands/index.php
I haven’t had a fighting game spark this kind of fighting flare within me since the awakening that fighting games actually have depth (for me, in terms of 3s). This game has a certain magic to it. Each character is tourney-viable and unique, so when I feel I fucked up, I didn’t get hit by a 50% comeback ultra in SF4, a 50% enraged phoenix smasher in Tekken, or a lvl.3 XF character just blew me up because I can’t react to 2/60ths of a second, I genuinely fucked up and must take accountability to realize how and where my opponent exploited my fault. If someone runs a train on me into an excellent victory, then I have to recollect and consider what my options are to blow up their strategy with my defensive options. IN VF THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY. As a Goh when I 4P+K+G a jab into Tsukami on analysis or 46K someone’s mid or high kick I feel rewarded for my educated prediction and presume obliteration with no remorse.
All I’m saying is that this game is the fucking truth. For $15 for such an amazing fighter you can’t go wrong. IT’S FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE!!! I sheltered myself with VF4:Evo’s training mode and VF5’s quest mode just trying to grasp the basics of the game and collect animations of all the characters mentally to gain comfort in each match-up as if it was Tekken, but it’s not that simple. Each character’s toolset has enough resources to mindfuck you if you aren’t paying attention to the PLAYER.
Enough drunk rambling, just support good shit. BTW, if you’re a Jean player and you live on the West Coast please add me from the gamertag thread. So far he bodies me for free and I can’t register how to combat him with Goh.
