Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown console thread

You can tell if it’s a natural combo by the life bar too. Red life depletes only when your opponent has recovered from your combo.

I’ve played some mashers and some good people in ranked. I’m literally day 1 VF, but ranked is fast enough to get used to the system. Although, I need to find a resource site.

Anyone mind talking about the strengths/weaknesses regarding each version? I’m not sure which version to get. Does one look better than the other at least?

virtuafighter.com basically the hub of all things VF. It has been sporadically on and offline lately probably because of all the traffic it got from its users as of late, perhaps.

Yes I started reading the encyclopedia on the system.

O.O

so far im gravitating towards sarah, lei fei, or el blaze. any positives/negatives for these characters anyone can chime in on?

The fights are extremely fun and require you to really use things like feints ,dodging ,and actual know how to grapple and roll out of damage. To win you have to know your character and what your strengths are .

Only character I really know anything about is Lei Fei, and he’s way different from his vanilla VF5 version. He has good frame traps and mixups, does good damage overall, has great anti-evade tools and is a serious bastard near walls. Unfortunately, his lows and throws are a little weak, so you have to get somewhat creative to open up the opponent.

Don’t know much about El Blaze, but he strikes me as kind of a risk/reward character who puts the opponent in a lot of guessing situations.

All I know about Sarah is that I hate fighting her. D:

So far I’m leaning towards Brad. As a VF newbie I have no idea. What is he good at and what is he bad at? I’ve pretty much been button bashing online and getting lucky.

Hello, I used to play Shun back in vanilla but I wanted to change character… and I was thinking about Lau. But I’ve been told he’s rather boring… how? Why? I also kind of like Pai and Jean… actually all characters are great for me! Lol… picking a main seems so hard because they’re all very different from each other

Are throws breakable on reaction online or are they pretty much free damage with the right setups? What is the tech window if anyone knows?

they’re breakable on reaction but you have to input the correct direction. The window? I think it’s 12 frames but I’m not sure.

For starters, I’d avoid his stance until you get a feel for the game engine and Brad fundementals. He is very strong without his stances so that is helpful.

Just focus on the importance of standing jabs, 2P’s, elbows, evades and throws. I’ve won quite a bit of matches just doing the basics then punishing with a huge combo when the opponent does stupid shit.

for everything else, just look at the brad specific threads on here or VFDC.

also remember, if you are holding block, you should alslo be holding P with or without a direction, as an option select in case the opponent throws you.

You need to hit G first to get into block and then hit P.

Had some stuttering in training mode (360) when walking around an opponent, not sure if it’s the camera or frame rate  anybody else experience this?

Also textures look lower res than the vanilla vf5! I need to pop in my disc to check but Kage’s stage for example looks a bit worse, maybe it’s because it’s lacking the awesome reflections and my memory is failing hahah Is there any threads or posts discussing the graphical comparison to the arcade version?

All pretty minor things all said and done, game is marvellous.

So far, my favorite characters have to be Lei Fei, El Blaze, Aoi, and Vanessa.

Blaze I kind of just muck around with but he’s a good time. I like Aoi’s style but she takes a bit of patience to use. Vanessa is a strange beast with these two different styles of hers but the takedown is awesome. And of course Lei’s stances take some time to get used to but he’s also a great blast to use.

Yeah glad someone else noticed this I’m not sure if the arcade version dulled down the textures but I doubt it because FS is running on a more powerful board.

Newer people have to get the basics down first. Spacing, Punishing, Zoning and it also good to learn a few combos. I am picking up fast due to my 3-D fighting experience and some others are doing the same. But this game is quite complex though.

Tutorial mode is big. Don’t skip it. Do it. Learn some staple moves as well.

I use the Bryants, Lion and maybe Aoi nowadays. Sarah the trickster, Jacky the punisher, Lion the pokester.

AM2 doesn’t move to new hardware until the next game in the series, and it has been confirmed that FS still runs on the Lindbergh.

The only thing I can think of is the filesize limits on online only content causing the graphical degradation.

I really hate console wars, but it looks like PS3 port looks closer to the real deal. I don’t know if it’s the similar hardware or not.
