Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown console thread

It’s up to Reno or Shou to save us from the Japanese onslaught.

[details=Spoiler]
GAIJIN POWAAAAA!

Unfortunately I’m not going. :stuck_out_tongue: I was planning on going (I actually bought the plane ticket) but my project’s first milestone got pushed back to the same weekend as Evo, so I had to cancel.

Dang nabbit.
Oh well the finals should be hype but I wonder if more JP VF players will come, due to this announcement alone?

dont the japanese give like shit pot money over there because of government regulations. i heard once that no japanese tournaments gives out like more than a few grand because of gambling laws over there. im not sure though. this is actually one of the few tournaments i hope the japanese stay out of just for fact that it would at least be more hype for the game if a westerner (european or otherwise) could win since for all intents and purposes this is being made for us. but yeah, we’re gonna get stomped lol.

Update with Clarification: This Just In! The Sega mothership has spoken and it appears that the $15k+pot will be split amongst the Top 16 and not the top 4 or 3 as what i thought. entry is $15 and all fees will be added to the pot with Sega throwing in their $15k afterwards. Sounds good to me and it definitely means America stands a decent chance of making some money. So you hear that guys?! GET THAT PAPER!!!

Glad I stumbled on this thread but I was surprised of the lack of trolls in that stream chat that day. Do most trolls not know the existence of VF or something?

It’s hard to troll a game that’s actually good.

You are correct, Kim1234 stated this on a elive podcast recently. The podcast had to do with alienation of foreign players, and the backstabbing that occurs during teams for SBO. I don’t know how much this applies to the VF scene but it is what it is.

wow im listening to this and it almost reminds me of the Kotaku article about how Japan may be a fun place to visit (im sure that it is) but if your a foreigner living there its pretty balls with nationalism and shit and how the business lifestyle is over there. too bad is all i can say about it.

As someone who has been living in Japan for almost a decade, and as someone who is listening to the podcast right now, please do not take his rants seriously. They’re so far off the mark it’s alarming.

Yeah man, this EVO announcement is cool, but a lot of people from VFDC said they wouldn’t be able to make it this year, but this was before the announcement. Doubt it’s changed though (haven’t checked VFDC yet). HOPEFULLY the game can carry hype to NEXT YEAR’S EVO so there can be a big tourney turn-out with awesome players, and have Sega throw in another pot bonus.

Up to the players and if people actually get into it, and not just give it token respect.

it definitely deserves more i know that for a fact. i just want to watch some good American VF and see where our meta game goes (because of course many times we approach games from a different angle than other parts of the world). it would suck if the VFDC community didnt at least try to show up to this, this game needs as much hype as it can get and a decent showing of talent would definitely bring in some much needed good will.

It’d be dope if Shou showed up and entered the tourney. One of the guys I play with IS going to EVO so I’m hoping he makes Top 16, I gotta get serious and help him prepare for shit.

I’m glad you stated this TBH. I guess what he experienced maybe isolated incidents he was unlucky in that regard.

I got faith in you VFDC cats, though FS experience is limited hopefully some upsets can occur.

I know at least some of the VFDC crew will be there. Renzo, who’s won most of the STA ranbats, is definitely going, and I think he’ll do well. LA Akira and other SoCal players should be there too. I think Shidosha from the east coast is going, but I’m not sure who else. All in all, it should be a fun weekend for VF players. Hopefully Fuudo, Itazan, et al will be playing lots of casuals or at least accepting MMs.

The Vanessa-off tourney is now streaming live: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/nistelj

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeea! Hey Thanks!

Man such a crazy concept, I wonder if they have character specific tournaments for every character?

The sheer manliness of a Jeff only tourney would overload and explode the internet if it would be streamed.

There were tournies only for Pai, Goh and Eileen in the past.

There was also a Taka vs. Vanessa grudge match tourney that was 20 vs 20, IIRC.
