Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown console thread

Next you’ll be tellin’ me that Blaze is low tier. According to Reno’s old list, I remember ‘everyone else’ being like B Tier

“Low tier” doesn’t mean a whole lot in this game. Lei Fei, who I’ve mained since VF4Evo, is also at or near the bottom and I still see videos of Lei Fei players with 60-70% win rates after thousands of games. You won’t have as easy a time as you would with an A or S-tier character, of course, but you should be fine.

I’d look more at character usage data than tier lists. It can be surprising sometimes.

Virtua Fighter 5 FS streaming at Southtown tonight

"Sega is canceling the development of some games, but the company hasn’t yet said which. It sounds like the one-time giant is in the process of looking over its games and figuring out which ones can still make money and which ones should be cut to save costs.
Sega’s current announced games in development include Binary Domain (for Windows), London 2012, Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, Jet Set Radio, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2, Anarchy Reins, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Phantasy Star Online 2, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz, Doctor Who: The Adventure Games, Yakuza 5, and Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit"

Goddamn it.

VF5:FS is safe, it’s close to completion and a big announcement like this means it has been known for a while internally. Sega also had the FS machines at southtown yesterday so don’t worry about that. Sega has publicly stated Sonic is safe and is a franchise they will focus more on, but the other titles are questionable. I hope Yakuza 5 is safe, Japan started the Yakuza studio last year so…

Anyway here is the archive for yesterdays FS tourney at southtown:

Prolly Aliens will get scrapped, again. FS is safe fo sho, though, no way they’re calling it quits at this point with all the promoting and shit going on.

I’ve been out of the loop a bit, didn’t realize they were still promoting FS so heavily. Good to know, thanks.

Aliens is safe

details=Spoiler Reduction of number of titles
We conducted detailed reviews of earnings projections for titles targeted toward the U.S. and
European markets and decided to narrow down sales titles from the following period and after to
strong IPs, such as “Sonic the Hedgehog,”, “Football Manager”, “Total War” and “Aliens” which
are expected to continue posting solid earnings. In accordance with this, we are canceling the
development of some game software titles. [/details]

So yeah.

I hope they keep localizing Yakuza for NA or I’m going to have to learn Japanese.

Still annoyed seeing people still say the “Hardest 3D fighter”

You seen that ish on the front page to right? It’s not hard at all to be honest. To play VF correctly, you don’t go in, pick a character and find the best/strongest combo… no you learn the system mechanics then the character. VF4:EVO( came out like what? 8 years ago?) has the best training mode system for a fighting game period and hasn’t been topped.

If you go to random gaming sites they call it the “Hardest Fighter” period. Truth is the game is special because it tries to be the most realistic fighter aside from floats etc. The thing that makes it special is the very thing that makes it the least appealing. Personally I don’t want VF to change it is one of the only fighters that can still be compared with it’s older incarnations. Soul Calibur now has supers,Tekken has rage which isn’t that bad imo. We all know what happened to SF and UMvC3 but sadly if Sega wants this game to sell more than it does it might have to go that route. Probably an overhaul of animations and default costumes changing to be more wacky. A change in voice actors and some sort of RPGish single player mode.

But the thing is the difficulty is exaggerated imo.

Still want last years April Fools joke to be a DLC mode.

While yes it would be funny, but do you really think the world needs another street fighter?

The problem is that past a certain point, everyone knows what you do about the game. Therein lies the challenge!

EDIT: VF isn’t realistic, wtf? It’s coherent. The game’s mechanics are presented up-front. Before anyone says it, that’s not a bad thing at all lol.

It would be great if someone wrote an article on SRK about why VF isn’t incredibly hard to learn. I know there was a similar article written during the april fools trailer but it didn’t address appropriately. Also in terms of VF popularity Sega is terrible at advertising their games so VF isn’t really the only IP that is having trouble. I remember when VF5 machines not being available overseas killed the Korean scene. Hell even Shin Z went to Tekken I don’t know what he is doing now but Korea was a force to be reckoned with. Does anyone have links to Korea vs Japan in VF4EVO because I can’t find those matches on youtube anymore.

EDIT: Found 2 but many players were in this showdown so I am hoping I find the others later.

I’m prolly gonna get this when it drops. V4 and and VF4 EVO had hands down the BEST training modes of any fighting game I ever played. There’s no comparison what-so-fucking-ever. If they copied and pasted the training modes to this game I will be happy. I never got VF5 cause I’m poor and only have a PS3, so I wouldn’t be able to play it online.

Since I haven’t played since VF4 EVO I’m afraid I’ve forgotten everything. VF4 was the first time I played the series.

Can’t wait to rep dat Vanessa. Although I’m still mad they bleached her skin. Gonna rep dat Goh too.

Keep that Goh army alive.

actually iirc he played tekken back in DR before VF5 even came out. I’m not entirely sure he quit for good and if he has hopefully this new port will bring him back.
