Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown console thread

Stream monsters are lonely virgins that collect welfare and use the library for their internet access.

VF is no more or less indecipherable than any other game as a spectator. The main difference is that there are no supers to clue people in when something ‘big’ happened. The people commenting on a stream chat are representative the least informed, largest group of consumers, so if there’s a negative vibe then that’s very unfortunate for the game’s potential.

The whole SRK schtick of assuming what isn’t SF is “boring” is getting pretty old. No one has to prove their game to you lol. That’s 10 years of people being uninformed and still having an opinion about it. Buy the game and give it a try – the wonders of having a downloadable release is now everyone can go buy a copy 24/7.

I used to enjoy watching VF2 and VF3. I think with 4 onwards, the game became more standardised and less physics based, making it less spectacular to watch. Might be rose-coloured glasses tho, I’ll have to emulate some VF3 one day to confirm my memories.

I still have VF2 for Saturn and it reminds me 3D models do not age well.

It doesnt help that the saturn version was pretty ugly compared to arcade VF2 as well.

VF2 in the arcade (especially on an emulator with MSAA enabled) looks pretty good still, strangely enough. I agree.

Supposedly there will be a mass amount of customization DLC for this game but I haven’t been able to trace the source of it (I believe it came from a GameSpot interview with the producers).

Not a big deal but…since DLC is a big hangup, thought I’d get everyone bitching.

It was already explained on the last page.

Crap, sorry.

I figured I’d probably be late to the party on that. I don’t even know why I tried to make that post.

Guess I am the only one angry by this…ugh DOA.

I wonder if a Fighters Megamix happens with VF and DoA now.

They said they were going to make DOA5 more cinematic and stuff. I was looking forwards to something new, different, and spectacular, even if its horribly casualised (after all, who cares about doa competitively anymore?)

But that video just looks like the same old DOA… just with more cutscene moves and cutscene moments.

Not true in the slightest dear sir. The retarded stun system from DOA 4 has been revamped severely since the last build, and the continuous ground bounce nonsense is gone completely from kasumi’s 6k to give an example of that.

You can’t see healthbars in this trailer, but from another recent OXM preview Counters were shown to only do around 20 damage. They used to do anywhere from 60-100+. Out of STUN. They were the single biggest problem with the game and are getting nerfed so hard you can’t even recognize them anymore.

Sidestep evasion mechanics are in the game and working like it was in 3.1, so it doesn’t play like a 2.5D fighter like it did with doa 1/2/3.0/3.2/4/dimensions.

You cannot counter off of wall hits anymore, because they throw you into an In Air state. This allows you to create more true combos and actually devise proper strategy for killing your opponent other then just playing rock paper scissors (although good luck countering someone to death now. seriously you’d have to do it like 15 times in a match).

So basically… yea. DOA is good right now, provided Shimbori-san keeps listening to us and developing the game the proper way instead of the Itagaki way.

Yeah, I saw that. Weird stuff.

I still wanna rent DoA5 but with the closure of so many rental outlets around here, I don’t know what to do.

RedBox?

game’s hella fun. I got murdered and was pleasantly surprised to see Dandy J, Chief Flash and others. American VF showed up and showed out.

Also ditto on the button check/config at char select screen being godlike.

Can’t wait for VF and now for DoA. I’m fine with VF getting more exposure this way and even more excited for a potential VFxDoA game.

You know, it feels sorta…good to have some fair and knowledgeable input on DoA. I’ve never run into anyone with a good background in it enough to talk other players through the game.

Most of us are over at freestepdodge.com actually.

The reason you don’t see anyone willing to talk a new player through DOA 4 is because we pretty much all universally agree that game doesn’t deserve new players. It’s that bad. With DOA 5 we’ve had a decent level of contact with the director behind the project, Shimbori-san. So we are doing everything in our power to make sure the game is not horrible.

We’d actually been talking about DOA vs VF for years among the community because despite the games flowing so differently, at the core they share basically the same control scheme. It’s surprisingly easy to mix their mechanics and make a ridiculously good game as long as you’re willing to gimp the counter system (which 99% of grizzled DOA veterans are not opposed to, believe me).

Pretty much every DOA player who reaches high level ends up wanting more from the game because it’s such a small mountain to climb. So most of us move on to other games to fulfill that need, but we still like the hard action physics that DOA has. The idea of using VF mechanics with DOA environmental physics is kind of a wet dream for some of us. At the very least it’d be a crazy fucking experiment.
