If KOF XIII is “real honest fighting”, then Final Showdown is the fucking truth.
Vampire Savior is the bible though.

Sega of Japan has launched the official console website

with additional screenshots
This will be up on virtuafighter.com soon (site is down) but here’s the breakdown of the recently launched page:
Online Mode: up to 8 players, spectator mode included. Traditional options for room size, region, as well as to allow playable Dural
Customizable costumes: Because VF5FS is close to the maximum size allowed for DLC games, all items other than the defaults are not included in the game and are sold as DLC. Items will be sold separately and in packs.
Training: Options for throw escapes, evades, rising attacks/speed and struggle from guard breaks.
Replays: You can save offline AND online matches. Frame data, etc. will be included
License Mode: Tons of challenges as you fight the CPU. There’s stuff like “all moves can be canceled”, “half weight gravity” and “opponent health doubled”, etc. Clear a challenge and get a special license.
Button configuration: You can set up the controller at the character select screen, and there’s also a “button check” option too so you can check to make sure your buttons are properly configured and working!
Virtua Fighter: Giving hardcore fighting game fans what they want even if they ignore the fuck out of the series.
This game man… this fucking game…
License mode sounds like an extra ‘fun mode’. Good, VF is already fun, and having more options to play the game will help reach a broader audience. The DLC thing is disappointing, but if it’s kept cosmetic then I can’t complain.
Every other feature mentioned so far sounds more carefully considered and fleshed out for new, serious players. Virtua Fighter is, and always has been, worth the time and effort to learn. The system changes in VF5FS make the game less intimidating – the removal of multiple throw escape buffering allow good defensive reads to shine through the execution heavy defensive option selects like evade double throw escape guard, crouchdash fuzzy and various other non-universal ones from VF4.
If you don’t understand what I mean, just understand that now that VF5FS is accommodating new players even more than VF4E (which already did to an exceptional degree just via its in-depth tutorial modes), there’s no reason for competitive fighting game fans to skip it over yet again. Sega is providing everyone with an exceptional opportunity to finally pick this game up in on console. Show them that their efforts aren’t squandered in terms of reaching a broader audience and increasing sales. By the way, I do mean exceptional in a very literal sense – console players didn’t get VF4FT or VF5R, and went stretches of years where barely anyone wanted to play at all.
Make no bones about it, Sega as a business has been in increasingly dire straits since the 90’s. Creatively they have always been the daring, innovative risk takers par exellence, and Virtua Fighter, historically, is a risk they took that paid off everywhere but the US and Europe’s console audience since VF3TB. To be quite honest, I feel Sega is releasing this game against their better judgement in terms of sheer profitability. To me that means they’re doing this because they genuinely feel they’ve made an excellent game and would like more people to play. Who does that anymore?
I’m elated that they’re willing to give Virtua Fighter another go on console and I hope you’ll all give it a try.
Goh is sick.
Looks like this game’s gonna have some paid DLC.
Also, Training Mode. Here’s hoping it’s as good as V4 EVOs.
Should’ve read the thread, or at least put Reno’s last post in your article, since it goes over the features.
Who is buying all the DLC?
<------ this guy
Also, I hope they keep the old music from the previous games in there as well.
Wait, so VF5FS can’t have all the customization items because of the size of the game would be too large? They sell actual PS3 games in the Store that are above 4GB, which I’m now assuming is the “maximum size allowed” for a DLC game and assuming those games count as a DLC game at all, they still can’t fit in all of the stuff? Sounds weird. But again, it doesn’t matter as it’s just extra stuff with no real impact on the gameplay.
The problem isn’t with PSN but with XBLA, they still have a criminally low file size limit on all XBLA games (I believe it’s between 2 - 3 gigs now). So it’s a matter of ensuring both versions of the game are the same, or have one include ALL the DLC and the other one with none.
Ah, okay, that explains it then. Thanks.
I played all day yesterday @ Final Round. Sega brought 2 setups, (X360, PS3) with Asus monitors and Hori RAP’s.
Game is great but I have to get used to the new throw system and commands. Also feels faster than vanilla VF5.
Best button setup EVER. Multiple presets and custom edit at character select plus input check after configuration.
The Team Spooky Stream will be showing exhibition matches from Final Round at 8:30 PM EST Tonight. So Exactly one hour from now.
Maaan those stream monsters are giving this game the finger, even some monsters saying that the stream is changing their minds, when previously they were gonna buy it. Daamnn things not lookin good
Stream monsters don’t play games.
Stream Monsters aren’t real, their just numbers with words
This game looks awesome. I’ve dabbled into VF territory once or twice back in VF4EVO and VF5 360 ver. the biggest turn off was the game becoming outdated on consoles by its arcade releases.
This looks promising though, especially with all the extra stuff listed above. YAY for Button Check pre-match and OFFLINE replay saves.
Common misconception: They do play games, just that most dont play them in a tourny setting.
Lolz though I can understand their reactions. VF was and will never be a spectator sort of game. Prolly the most boring major 3d fighting series** to watch** imo.
Every game gets shittied on by the chat. The viewers never dropped below 8K, so that has to say something.
I don’t know, I like watching VF matches but you have to know what’s going on.
