Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown console thread

Are you really that glib? You said Akira in the top tier as it was a generic trait of VF games as a whole, and, in fact, suggested that he existed in a tier of his own just because _____________ ? Akira actually isn’t the char that Sega gives everything to – that’s Kage – and yes if you really want to split hairs they have been in the top tier a disproportionate number of times, but often alongside several other characters. Do you really think just being brazenly disingenuous about the balance and doubling down on it by citing a blog post about FS, a version that’s still subject to revision that we don’t even HAVE, is a good idea? Or do you think you can sneak that past someone who can read?

I don’t see why this even has to be hard, or why I necessarily have get framed as the big meanie, or a nerd rager, or whatever. Solely because I don’t like seeing misinformation spread about my niche game, and I want SRK posters to stop posting this trash. I am ready to admit that I am not some all-knowing VF encyclopedia, but I know more about the game than most just by virtue of the fact that I research what I have to say and spent time LISTENING to the people who knew these things.

So, being impatient with this BS somehow gets me cast as the villain. Tell me, if you and a few thousand other people were teaching a class, and all the students spent years learning basic facts about something new, only to proudly persist in repeating the wrong things year after year on open-book tests with unlimited response times, would you have any patience left? I would quit or start harvesting the dumbest answers and posting them on a blog.

Oh, but of course – Any desire to get paid to convey this knowledge tailored to the specific demands of random dude #21355, who shows up and demands it during a discussion of the relative merits of a few dozen other freely-available tutorials that have been around for half a decade or more is just me being a smug douchebag, right? It’s not tataki’s sense of vast entitlement and ignorance that makes him feel comfortable in ignoring VF community’s best efforts because he’s too dim (or assumes Tekken players are LOL) to boot up a tutorial mode or watch a video or two without having shaky, patronizing parallels to Tekken expounded on at length for no reason other than creating some vague sense of context between two entirely different games. Oh and it’s also even more arrogant in yomipower’s estimation to genuinely offer my time and effort for FREE only because would be used in the employ of shaming him (like he has any to begin with, apparently).

Do I need to bust out the Duplo blocks and Dora tapes to get you kids to shut the hell up? Or, perhaps more fittingly we can all go to 4chan and post about it there, while lacing the thread with some anime porn, since that’s all the rage these days.

You’re allowing the tone of what I’m posting override any of the content of what I have to say, and refusing to see why I might just be a little bit frustrated after nearly 9 years of this garbage. Just read it in Cranky Kong’s voice and deal with it, fuck.

This is also a problem endemic to SRK as a whole, even though the info couldn’t be any more in your face without being table of contents of links that pops up all over the screen when you load the page, and at the top and bottom of every page of the thread. Maybe you would like to have a radio-button menu where you pick the character you’d like to see and it will automatically embed matches from Youtube? Or hell, an android and iphone app that does it? Oh wait, if I developed and dared charge for it, I’d be megalomaniac on par with David Koresh. Welp.

Or maybe you should just stop taking the internet so seriously, especially a VF thread in a non-VF site

So anyone know how Brad and Eileen are in FS?

It’s a site that has a lot of pull with people who may, some day, stop posting garbage and actually play the games (like VF surprise surprise) they claim they’re interested in. Don’t move the goalposts dude. You’re the who felt slighted enough to decline that offer lol.

Brads a Beast now and well if you don’t know what makes Eileen so good VF already then you should play her first.

Dang it. Where was that 5R Ver. C (I think?) that listed half the cast as S-tier with the rest A-tier except Brad and Shun?

Bub please.

Sarah player asked if Sarah is good in VF 5FS, should he switch.

I reminded him that every character is good, except Akira who (due to being a fast heavyweight) is great.

This is the way it’s always been, this is the way it’ll always be.
You don’t win in VF by tiers, you win because you know your character inside-out and read your opponent.

So will SRK have a full VF5 FS forum or is there another site i should be looking at for info?

i loved Virtua Fighter when i was younger and i wanna get back into it again when the new game comes out! and after being frustrated by the insanity that is UMVC3 i think it would be a nice change of pace.

So how does Pai look in the new game? she was my main in the past games although back then i knew nothing of the tournament scene and where she stood tier wise but i thought she was a good character.

Sorry, Its probably going to be this thread only for srk or check VFDC.

If you put in the work you can win with anyone.

For Sarah players check this channel on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/user/wannafightus?blend=1&ob=0

A little history. This dude placed 2nd in VF4:EVO at EVO 2004 and has a history of bodying people. Solid all around player who knows what he’s doing. He goes by Shou at VFDC. He has won tournaments in Japan in VF5 and has won them with Sarah, who was bottom tier, maybe even moreso than Lion in Vanilla VF5. If you want to learn Sarah, this is a good place to start. This dude’s an American btw. The U.S. has very strong players in this game, you just have to play smart!

Also check out YOU’s Sarah, again solid play.

If you are serious about VF, SRK isn’t the place to be. VFDC has EVERYTHING you need to know. Seriously. This thread should really be about directing people toward www.virtuafighter.com .

Pai is very strong as well.

Here’s a video site with A TON OF MATCHES SORTED OUT BY CHARACTER. You can figure the rest from here on out.

Reno: Is there a way can add the VF Dojo site to the front page?

Also VFDC has the past Japanese VF tourney’s archived on the FRONT PAGE, there have been at least 15 tourneys for FS since last November to now and will continue to be through April.

Seriously VFDC is where you want to be, for relevant information on this game.

www.virtuafighter.com

That’s rich. I’m sure the great length I go into to explain why this is the case just my previous 4-5 posts in this thread somehow never existed to you because I’m an internet meanie. It’s almost like you take perverse pleasure from ignoring me and giving me my own advice.

Man, in the context of how much effort I’ve gone into explaining this game between the lines in just in the past day or two in this thread, this has to be in the top 5 of non-yomipower scrub quotes itt.

Femto I mentioned that those FS matches on his channel are about a year old. His buddy introduced me to the game way back when and Shou taught me how to think about VF that helped me sort out most of it on my own. Man, STL is a powerhouse for 3D fighters, innit? Shou has been in SF and JP for much longer though. I only see him post about emulators these days lol.

Okay thanks for the info. i was just curious about where she stood. tiers don’t matter very much to me. the only reason i would decide to not play Pai is if she was an S tier that everyone uses (i can’t stand to play those kind of characters, just bugs me for some reason)

I’ll be sure to check out VFDC as well. man i’m getting super excited now  VF4evo is what got me into real fighters and its awesome training mode taught me A LOT about fighting games and how they work. every fighter should have a training mode like that!

I very much doubt the people who are interested in VF flock to this site and this thread anyway, the main pull of this site, if you haven’t noticed, is Capcom games. All these subforums dealing with other games could mostly be taken as a novelty, sure they offer conversation about the game to who’s interrested in it, but all the real talk goes on in their respected forums such as VFDC, and does anybody really come to this site just to talk VF, for instance? I mean, you see the level of conversation we have here? :clown: And because that little jab was obviously aimed at me, mistakes about the hit level of low punches aside I really do have an genuine interest in VF, as I’ve had for a long time, the lack of players has just meant that there’s no point in actually learning the game, and I’ll stop posting garbage, even though I’ve asked real questions before, most of them just have been left unaswered, as soon as you learn to chill the fuck out and stop getting so mad. Nobody here thinks you’re a bully or meanie, but the way you come on to people is so incredibly douchbaggery that you just beg to get trolled and shitposted constantly, or did you really think you’re going to get taken seriously with that kind of attitude? It’s like you take every single misconception and obvious joke as a kind of personal insult and get so mad over it, like the thing kikimaru said (or unless he was really serious, then in that case I’ll agree with you there, besides everyone knows Wolf is God tier ALERT - A SATIRICAL JOKE HAS JUST BEEN MADE, DON’T GET ANGRY - ALERT) And I really hope you’re not thinking people declining your offers and whatnot has anything to do with them being idiots or it’s their loss, you can just look in to the mirror, as said. Yes, you’ve offered supposedly genuine help here and righted a few wrongs, that’s really great, but do you neccessarily have to come off as an asshole in the process, and then even ask why people won’t take it?

So please, lighten the fuck up, or just ignore the idiots spouting garbage.

Replays from a couple of tournaments over the weekend.

yomipower - out of curiosity, is English your first language? I think we may be talking past each other a great deal. 2P or not. (bring back location field next to avatars plz)

I get humor, and SRK’s sense of humor has revolved mostly around things that could barely qualify as the “satire” you’d find in GTA game or a bad episode of South Park. I am genuinely sorry if I am on the wrong track as to what people think is funny here right now. I post sporadically and in stick to specific threads, mostly because of the type of crap in threads like these that do nothing but discourage me from posting altogether. Why I care now is mostly a function of my own whims and willingness to take people to task over their BS.

Yes, the precipice of the stairs back to Basement Earth of actually talking about fighting games and not vague conceptual arguments about tier lists: a statistical meta-analysis or another startling expose how eSports is perpetrating a holocaust on our secret club may seem steep at first, but once you’re hurtling down it you start to see why most of the posters worth a dern moved to off-site blogs where they can just moderate and ban people from their comments for that nonsense.

And yet, what I’m not going to put up with is characterization of me as someone who has trouble parsing the “nuance” around a joke like “Akira is on the box of the game therefore he’s Arcadia-certified A+ tier also look at that body check/senbon 100%/minami step lolololol!” because I’m somehow humorless in my dissatisfaction with people by going into the facts of it at length. If I had to do actual research about the things I’m saying, yes, it would be pretty arduous for me.

I dunno, though, tell me if you thought the big bold 18-sized impact font in my callout was somehow there to emphasize how mad I was or something. And, yes, I am vain enough to play up that melodrama to get people like you to think I am the Black Flag-era Henry Rollins of VF or something. 2P or not 2P that is the question amirite?

BTW - I like fonts. Do you like fonts? Can we get comic sans on this forum to ensure there is no miscommunication as to what is intended as a joke?[S] PS I realize how that would get abused and I definitely want that kind of silliness going on.[/S] Heh.

I like sesame street too. Oscar the Grouch still has something to teach! - This is basically every exchange I have with people in this thread, for example. Maybe the grouch anthem is really how I feel sometimes too, but there I go again.

Wow, I haven’t played on XBL for ages. Went on there last night to finally try some 3s. Will be radical to be able to download a new VF update!! Game is such a delight to play just with 3 buttons and a stick, and of course, looks amazing running through HDMI.

Anyone know how different the movelists are between VF5 Ver. C and FS? I’m looking to really get into this when FS hits, and I’ve been in the process of slowly learning general VF game mechanics and some of the characters. Is it worth it to learn a character all the way, or will the changes be that significant? I was looking to learn Vanessa, since she’s just awesome, or maybe someone a little easier.

Final showdown is almost a brand new game.

All of the characters have gotten significant upgrades since vanilla VF. Just remember that between ver. C and Final Showdown, 5R was also released which added/tweaked a TON of moves to each character, and then they were changed again in FS. You can get away with playing characters as if they were in vanilla sometimes but the changes to the movelists will be apparent from day 1.

I saw some tournament announcements for this already ([Oct 10, 2012] [NorCal] Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown - First VF5:FS... (San Francisco, Ca)). Is it out already? Ive been itching to buy this!
