-The system basics are logically arranged and for the move properties are consistent. You can utilize basics with all characters and still be effective but not necessarily great at the game.
-The input buffers are extremely generous in 4 and 5, which confuses me when people say the game has difficult inputs. Unless you’re playing VF4E Akira or something it’s nowhere near difficult.
-Option select defense has been tricky in the past, but in FS they are going to be much easier – like almost too simple.
So, the rep this game has for being prohibitively difficult stems from a few misconceptions, coupled with the barrier between good and great players relying on how good your mindgame and mixup abilities are.
A jab will probably beat a wild haymaker right? And chances are if you jab someone you can follow up pretty easily with something else? This is VF in a nutshell. Hit a fast attack so you can go for a slower attack.
It’s much easier to defend and attack, it’s been made very user friendly. In all honesty before it wasn’t very difficult either.
At the end of the day, you guys should really try it, you might enjoy it.
I’m a little worried that we haven’t heard much from Sega about this yet. Namco Bandai was updating almost constantly about SC5 more than a year away from release. I hope Sega ramps up promotion soon.
I love button block, both in VF and Guardian Heroes. I really like being able to buffer move motions whilst blocking. Also being able to cancel moves and buffers by pressing block is great.
Since the majority of the time, holding back won’t interfer with what you are attempting to do. unless your character has moves performed by back + something else. So you can press buttons and maintain “holding block” the entire time. This also lets you perform attacks while in block stun, so the second you are out of block stun, you will begin attacking.
whereas a game with a block button won’t allow you to attack while holding block, so you have to manually release block, hit the attack button and then block again. And if you wish to attack after blocking a move, you need to do it manually and make sure you have advatange to go on the offensive.
Someone really needs to write an article on how VF isn’t as hard/complex as people like to say it is. When I see people mention character specific combos when saying VF is hard, I get a little sad because they’re not even getting in depth with whatever fighter they play.
I’ve actually been thinking about doing something like this using my own personal experiences with the series and what not from a layman’s sort of perspective. At the same time, though, I’m sure there are stronger, more knowledgeable players who can really break things down, which would also be good.
The weight thing concerning combos is an irrelevant argument now, because it’s been mostly dealt away with in FS. Almost all combos will work on all characters minus Taka, cause he’s such a fatass, lol.
Hey little baby’s still playing your little scrub games like Marvel 3 and SF4. Drop the training wheels, grow some balls and play VF5 Final Showdown. Its not that hard to learn. Are you men or pussies?
Written guides is kind of a thing in the past, video guides are a much better idea because you can actually see the stuff being done instead of having to read it up first and then try to figure it out in practice mode, much easier to elaborate. Aris has been doing a couple of nice video guides for Tekken 6, currently about movement and instant while running moves, that’s something the VF community could look up and take example.
Actually, Srider from VFDC did a whole slew of VF5 tutorial guides for 1up.com when the game first came out, and afaik this was the first time anyone went really in depth with any fighter in that format. I’m not saying you’re wrong though, because the VF community in general really needs to step up their game when it comes to presenting the series in a way that will interest new players, but you know, it’s kind of hard to give a fuck when the publisher itself doesn’t really give a fuck.
example of Srider’s tutorial is here. You can search for VF5 Super Guide on Youtube for more
