out of curiosity, do we know which version we’ll be getting on consoles?
(sry sry i have not been keeping up with VF news)
Most likely ver.B which should be out a couple months before console release. The rep at PAX said SEGA will be using the latest arcade version for console release.
More than likely they’ll be waiting for the last revision of FS to come out 'till they release it on the consoles, then move onto VF6. Better this so that it won’t turn out to be a “disaster” like vanilla PS3.
2 VF streams happening right now in Japan
Tokyo Bay Area Cup, Volume 8 - 3 on 3 Team Battle, actual tournament starts ~ 1:00 PM Japan Time

Should I get into this game or Tekken? I want to expand my fighting game experience outside of SF.
Sega seems to be keeping awfully quiet about the game since it’s big reveal months ago, and it’s still a long ways off.
I’m really looking forward to the game, and I plan to devote some serious time into it, I dunno how long KOFXIII can keep me busy until then, not too many upcoming fighters in 2012 I’ve been anticipating for the longest time besides Final Showdown.
Both games are good, but go with your preference
I prefer a fighting game where any character can win and when you lose or win it is based on how good you are with that character and not if he is at a higher tier.
and that is the world of VF
And make sure you visit www.virtuafighter.com. They are more than willing to help someone new that wants to learn about the game.
I’d recommend VF5 over Tag2, that game is just balls.
I’d try both and see which one feels better. They aren’t remotely similar, so if you pick one to the exclusion of the other it’s not something to worry about.
I am in the middle of writing something for my site about the VF series in general – basically dispelling some myths about it – but I think it’d be good to answer questions people have about the series too. any takers?
Why do people think VF is the hardest game ever?
Why is Lion so annoying
And your thoughts about the version we are about to get compared to earlier versions.
How can VF community gain more players and support? I want this game to be big in America.
Stream local tourney would start. Have local gathering. Travel to events.
If the old players are still around, the VF community should blow up a little again after FS is released. It died down in the first place because there’s really no point in playing an ages old and drasticly different revision. It’s just up to the old players to get new folks on the game, which can be a large undertaking knowing how hard VF is to learn properly. That, and Sega making a good net code.
I keep hearing that I should be weary of learning this game because its technical, some one mind explaining?
One thing I’ve wondered about is the layout for buttons on an arcade stick. What’s the preferred/‘official’ method? Are things like ‘P+K+G’ ever used or allowed in competitive play?
I don’t think Netcode should be an issue, VF5 had stonking netcode.
Layout for VF is as follows:

About shortcuts, (for pad players, I’m assuming) no idea if they were allowed in tournaments.
Also, I’ve heard that Xbox Ver. B netcode was a little bit iffy, as in it noticeably lags and you can’t tech throws and shit.
Because he doesn’t make allowances for old men. :V
Anyways, how can us as VF-ers help players from other games adjust to playing VF? Or also how VF is ultimately not that different from any other fighter? i.e. Practice and play just like anything else.
Maybe explain things tactics, mechanics and application along with how and why stuff is how it is in the game. Referring to previous versions could help.
Usually depends on connection. I’ve had matches with next to no lag at all with max 3 bars.
