I always thought of it that way too. I started playing Goh about 4 months ago since I wanted to give Aoi a break and it felt I used more of the game than I had previously.
BBCampbell’s exploits with Akira, vol.2
I finally figured out how to do Akira’s knee using a tip on VF.com (basically, put your index and middle finger on K & G and flick like you’re lighting a match).
I can do it in practice like >10% of the time now, but I actually did it.
I can also do SPoD on occasion and :d:+K+G, :r:+K, :l::r:+P on occasion.
Akira is pretty fun once you get past the daunting, technical gameplay.
My current favorite combo is :qcb:+P, :d:+P, :d:+K, and then a down attack.
Yeah, I’m a scrub still, but the game is now proving to be worth far more than the mere $20 I paid for it despite the fact that I have no one to play against.
=What are the best stages for certain characters?
=What are your favorite stages?
^ The old stages are the best. The new music is generic rock that gets annoying and old waaaaay faster than the old music. Akira’s stage is a perfect example of this. His old stage had progession from night to day with great music. Now? Daytime, with dull rock for all five rounds.
Well, every character has tools they can apply in each type of stage, but there are some that stick out. Kage = no walls stage (though he has a very strong wall combo game as well), Akira = high walls, Lei = high walls. Other than that, maybe Wolf on no wall stages because of certain throws, or Aoi because of her d/b+P+G throw, but it’s not that extreme, and arguable if it’s better/worse than their wall combo tools.
Remember that no wall stages are much larger than high wall or even corner open/breakable wall stages. It goes like this.
No walls = biggest
Corner open/breakable walls = medium
High unbreakable walls = smallest
So in a high wall stage, you’ll see the edge of the ring much more often than in a no walls stage. Honestly, most characters other than Kage will perfer walled stages, and even then depends of your playstyle and opponent. I’d say if you are playing someone better than yourself, the more space you have, the better you’ll do. The smaller ring will allow someone better to win faster, even in the case of Kage’s TFT ringout vs repeated wall combos and pressure.
Also, the old no wall stages and the PS2 exclusive stage are tounament banned, because they don’t follow the ring size rules of VF4Evo. Both of them are too small for their type.
Hey there are some really hot new matches up so I thought I’d make a post here.

There are a bunch here, the section at the bottom are the newest update. Kage, Akira, Lei, Lion, and Jeff are the characters in the latest batch.

Some great matches here as well.
^^ That Sarah vs. Kage match on the first link was awesome!!
Ok…you know how in the versus options there is a category with a bunch of questions marks, what is that? I hear if you place in all the underground events you unlock it, but what do you unlock?
I’m trying to see if it is worth the game rage.
You can play all the arena game types in VS mode.
well, i just started finally trying to learn how to play virtua fighter. ive always enjoyed the games, but never got off my ass to actually learn how to play right. i gotta say, VF4 evo does a great job trying to teach newbies and suckos like how to play. after only a couple days i can feel myself getting tons better. still sucking, but not nearly as much as before
vf5’s graphics blew me away… holy shit
VFEvo is one of the very few fighters that you could call almost balanced. Nothign will ever be perfect, but this game’s damn close. I want to chime in and say that out of the four arcade machines I own, one of them is a VF evo cab. It’s that good. :lovin:
Wait, I can view match vids on VF 4: Evo disc on PS2?
lol yeah, theres a bunch of matches on the og vf4 and evo. matches of all the top players at the time. plenty of em too. its in the main menu iirc.
in the main menu? how the heck do I access them from there? There aren’t much options… Do I have to earn these vids in quest mode?
Quick question: is there a trick for doing crouching moves (ie., Akira’s D,b,f+p) instantly? I’m having the hardest time trying to combo these moves.
Any move that requires a crouch can be done by doing a crouch dash instead.
Either Df, Df. or Db, Db.
For the move you mentioned though, the crouch-dash only covers the crouch requirement, you would need to input Df,Df,b,f+p.
It’s second nature after a while. I greatly prefer it to having to crouch first, especially since the backwards crouch-dash can sucker people into opening themselves up.
Goh’s shoulder ram can mitigate the backwards crouch-dash’s distance almost entirely if you input quick enough.
Goddamn I loves me some VF.
try using crouch buffering - instead of doing a full crouch you replace the FC with crouch-dash.
ex. since you want do Akira’s Double Palm(D,b,f+P), to do it with crouch buffering you do (df,df,b,f+P)/(db,db,b,f+P), either one works as long as you crouch-dash.
hope this helps
EDIT: DAM! Tuelpo got to him first!:annoy:
I think it’s under “Replay” or something. After that, you select the disc option or something. Sorry, i don’t have the game in front of me to try it out.
^This man is right
Btw, I would like to say even though this game will die completely in 2 months, VF4 EVO has got to be the greatest console port of a fighting game EVER MADE. Rest in peace.
