I can’t stress enough how useful the different training modes are. Go through the trial and challenge modes for your character(s) to learn the most used combos, stepping/dashing and vital defensive strats.
Also when you visit VFDC, learn how to use the SEARCH function to get info on any questions you might have. Nothing pisses off the regulars more than noobs that ask questions that have been answered over and over before like “How do I do Akira’s knee?” or “What’s a sabaki?”
Final thing I want to add is try not to get discouraged if you dont see immediate results in your gameplay. Just keep at it. The more you play you’ll get a better understanding how the engine works. I’ve seen plenty of people give up after a few days of play saying, “I’m not getting any better, its too hard.”
It is hard. Too used to playing Tekken (a lot, a lot). Oh well.
Do you get any rewards from doing the training stuff like before? I did the first 11 or so and saved it, but when I went back it didn’t have them crossed to show I had done them.
I’m currently using Goh, and he’s proving to be quite troublesome as far as speed goes (Brad ripped me apart) but I hope to get used to him.
I need to change the controls as well, I find it very awkward with default to do recoveries as it’s not like you get multi-mapping on arcades, so I try to stay away from multi-mapping. I’m thinking of changing the controls to:
Square=Punch
X=Guard
Triangle= Kick
Anyway, thanks for your tips, I’ll try to do more training soon (one of the training themese just rocks, but I have no idea what it is).
Believe it or not, I actually sold my previous copy of Evo. Then again, I wanted money and the cover was had a blemish, but I finally found a new copy after so damn long for only 10. Woo!
I just did some light training, and I am actually enjoying it. I still have a long path ahead of myself if I want to get as good as I am at the Tekken level (which isn’t high, but it’s fair).
Well I just checked his profile on SA and they’re from the same place so I guess it’s him. By the way Dandy, I love how your “Interests” section in your SA profile just has “fighting games”. :lol:
Sarah: Champion
I started out playing with Sarah. And to this day I’m not sure why. I just remembered that I didn’t like Akira who my mom called “Ryu on steroids” when she heard mention of his likeness to Ryu. She’s simple enough for me
Kage: Champion
After I got tired of doing things with only Sarah, I went for the ninja (it’s a wonder I didn’t pick him first). He’s got some nasty juggles, but I haven’t been able to do many things non-scrubby with him. I’m satisfied though.
Jacky: Protector
He’s Protector or something like that. Started playing him cuz I knew Sarah decently enough (they’re siblings:wink: )
Akira:Something or other
I can do a few combos, but it’s mostly scrubby, so I won’t really mention him too much more.
Goh: 7th Dan or so
Stopped with Goh just before Christmas hit, haven’t used him since. I dunno…he’s interesting, if nothing else.
Living in Houston, I know it’s pre-dominantly a Tekken and Street Fighter town and I love playing both. But I would like to know who in Houston plays VF4:Evo, so I could get practice with them.
Also, if you ever want to see what you should be doing in certain matchups, look in the replay section and choose the actual game disk. There should be a mile long list of match vids on the disk itself.
lol, dude it’s funny cause I didn’t figure this out till like freaking 3 months after I got VF4:EVO. Some of those matches are bomb as hell! Especially the chibita matches.
