Hey it’s this thread.
If anyone has any specific questions (that are not about Quest mode items), post it up and I’ll do my best to answer.

I have this King Tut mask on and it won’t let me take it off. Help please!
j/k heh heh
Loin. How good is he, can he be good? I looked for vids of him in the VF4:EVO disk…and theres like…5…
Lion is one of the most underrated characters. He is very, very good. Some basic stuff…
You can use 44K to punish whiffs, either out of backdash or after you evade something. 44K,P+K, KK is guaranteed on most characters and does a lot of damage. A common setup is 6P (blocked), and do 44…K to do 44K out of backdash to punish their elbow.
What sets him apart are his evasive property moves, especially FC 6P. There is a reason this move is throw counterable. It naturally evades low P at frame disadvantage. It can also evade most elbows in the correct foot position. A common setup is low P (blocked), FC 6P. If you pay attention to stance, you can make the opponent keep blocking after your low P is blocked, and then start mixing it up with K~G throw, among other things.
His command evade 9/3P+K+G also evades a lot of things (at disadvantage), but you have to know what foot postion is required for specific moves, so a lot fo training mode experimentation is required for having a strong Lion.
On top of all that stuff, he has a lot of great low pokes, his 3K+G/6K+G mixup after techroll is ok, 214P sabakis everything but elbows I think, so he has a lot of great tools.
Can I win with jacky just using P+K P, 64P+G, 2P and 6K all day? I just mash at my arcade. But I don’t know how to play Jacky otherwise.
You need to use 6P§, PP8P, PP6P§ and 1P too. But I mean, you can use as few moves as you like, as long as you know when to use them.
Is it normal not to be able to get curse items off after you take them off? I remember I got a king tut mask a long time ago and now its gone forever.
And how do I get all the wallpapers? I have one character that has all the emblems but still I am missing a lot of wallpapers? So what is the secret?
Who is Dandy J?
IIRC FT allowed you to keep “Punishment” items after you clear the requirement for it to be removed.
Some asshat who thinks he’s good at VF.
About the wallpapers, the ones you are missing are probably the challenge mode ones. Each character has 1 wallpaper they get for completing all the challenge mode stuff.
My best characters are
Goh
Shun Di
Akira
Pai
In that order.
If I were to give any advice to beginners it’s “never give up”. The game not only requires a lot of patience, but it requires perfectionism. But it is the only game that I can think of that requires a college degree to even start playing. Don’t worry about which character is better or easier to use, since you will spend most of the beginning trying to master the very intense game system, but it is totally worth it, especially in Japan. Unfortunately, it is the nature of the game that makes Americans hate it.
An underated character who has only just been getting serious play since EVO 2k5is Shun. His greatest strength is his total unpredictability. He has great throws, EASY launches, Superior mobility, easy juggles, great range and potentially deals the most damage in the game. His greatest weakness that he requires the most time to master by far because his drink system changes the properties of is moves. It’s like going from KoF 06 to KoF 2000 to CvS2 Kyo for every few drinks you have.
I play Lion and found him to be very aggressive.
I’ve also started to play Goh, but he felt “incomplete” for some reason; it’s either he is complete, or I am not using him right…probably the latter.
I have a question:
Do I really need to know how to do Akira’s knee?
To me, the command is incredibly stupid for just a damn knee. I mean, the Bryants (well, not in VF4 for Jacky) get f,f+K for a knee. As do most of the cast that have a knee, but Akira gets some kind of crazy, just-frame on crack motion for his damn knee.
“K+G and let go of G after 1 frame”.
Basically, I’ve given up on trying to do his knee since VF2. I can barely SPoD.
Plus, I only have a Dual Shock 2 for my PS2, so doing his knee is even more impossible.
Before I started playing Akira yesterday, I was mostly a Sarah player as she requires the least amount of skill to play. If you can play Tekken, you can use Sarah IMO.
EDIT: Of course, since the US hates Virtua Fighter, I only play at home by myself on my PS2. I can barely find a Street Fighter cab in this town, much less VF anything.
Knee is necessary for wall combos. You can use 466P+K, but the recovery is so bad that if your opponent rises in place with P+K+G, they get a free P (or throw attempt). Just learn to place it at the end of your wall combos, you don’t have to be able to do it out of nowhere.
man I love Lion, need some more VF4 comp
it’s funny cause in this city we have 3 vf4 machines and 0 3s machines.
There are dunce items and the cursed King Tut Mask. If you lose every round by perfect you are cursed with the King Tut mask you can’t take off. Only way to remove it is to win a match with one round being perfect. You can’t keep the mask after you remove it. Dunce items are achieved differently by every character and can only be removed by doing a certain objective. You can keep the dunce items once their removed. I know Jeffry gets a shark biting his ass if he gets thrown too much in a match and loses.
I think Shun has the weakest throw game out of all the charachters imo.
He only has 4 throw inputs. His main ones are neutral P+G and :df: P+G. Anyone who is good at doing throw escapes negates these two. That leaves him with :l: P+G and :r: P+G. The one ending with forward can only been done if Shun has at least 3 drink points and it takes away 3 drink points, on top of all that the damage isn’t that great. To do his best throw he needs at least 10 drink points. The throws he has from his different stances execute really slow. Aoi and Vanessa can stop his main combo followups after his rollover throw.
But anyway, I play Shun as well and I think he’s great even with his poor throw game.
Goh is really hard to use. He’s limited on attack strings, his launcher is really slow and you need good guesswork to use his sabaki type moves.
Yeah but the one thing Goh has going for them, and the reason he gets any play. He has some really good counter/stun moves. You just have to know when to use them. Goh is probably the most predictable character as well.
i hear you there, it sucks being a goh player LOL, something good comes out of playing him tho, you get a better understanding of the game, as you´re forced to use each and every tool VF4 has to offer, ARE, boxstepping, ETEG EDTEG, sabaki-te, minami stepping for the more qualified, crouch buffering, fuzzy guarding, hit checking, the only thing he´s not big on is stance checking, most of his combos work well regardless of stance, but overall he´s a good learning machine, learning goh will deffinitely give you an edge on using VF´s system, think about goh as the polar opposite of lei fei LOL
