Why is there so much SF4 hate when that’s the only thing being talked about?
Fuck, go play something else.
Why is there so much SF4 hate when that’s the only thing being talked about?
Fuck, go play something else.
Wow, that’s just what I was thinking.
I c wut u did ther
People say it’s not much at all like gg actually, believe it or not.
Oh no, reverse sf4 hate. I think you kind of missed the conversation going on. I’ll summarize:
[]sf4 doesn’t exist during offline casuals for past few weeks
[]SF4 low tiers/non turtling is fun online cause there’s nothing else to play
[]Corey sees sf4 as money making potential if we learn sagat
[]Still don’t want to enter because support sf4=supporting death of everything else

We have to learn sagat cause

And about playing gg for blazblu: We never really stopped.
Happy birthday? How the fuck do you think I feel? I’m 28 1/2.
Something that I think is understated is how good Sagat is up close. If it was just the zoning, whatever, we’d get around that. But when the action moves up close, he is no slouch because there of TU -> FADC -> Death, tiger knee pressure, and low short x2-3 -> TK w/o meter or TU blah blah dead with meter. Not to mention low forward to low “firah trawck” just to push you out a little bit. I don’t find Sagat all that boring and what I need to work on with him is getting aggressive. I’ve played some decent players with him (next time Tornadoflame hits me up, I need to play Sagat vs. him and not just Rog/Bison), and I find that if I fall behind and get to my last 10-15% life, I can go in, mix up and make the comeback with Sagat. And I expect all kinds of jokes about that last 10-15% of a lifebar And Sagat is far from free money. How many Sagats made top 8 in the National SF4 tournament? I know who 6 of the top 8 were and those 6 didn’t use him. So maybe 2 at most. Zero Sagats in the top 4 (2 Rogs, though). Rufus vs. Honda in the finals. Look at the international exhibition. Rufus, Dhalsim, and 2 Ryus. Even the Japanese nationals only had 2 sagats in the top 8. One lost in the round of 8, the other placed 2nd. He’s #1 for sure, but not free money by any stretch.
About Cammy, she has 2 important moves, dive kick and focus attack. Her level 2 FA is very quick. Use that and her excellent dash for faints and pressure. Her Cannon Spike is excellent because you can use it the same way Shotos/Sagat use their uppercuts. CS XX FADC to Ultra works. Even though you don’t get the final hit and the cool cinematic if you juggle into her ultra, you still get damage. If you watch Cammy’s Ultra, unlike Bison’s, the last hit does very little damage. Where as the stomp portion of Bison’s is where the damage is. I’ve messed around with her some. You have to play her the exact opposite of ST Cammy. Cannon Drill is combos only, her pokes are good, but not CvS2 scary, and to get the real damage with her, you need some execution. TK EX Dive kick, TK roundhouse dive kick, close fierce to cannon spike hurts. Weaknesses include Cannon Drill not being safe, Hooligan not working at all on crouching characters, and her armor breaking move is effing spin knuckle. Ouch. So she is vulnerable to armor moves and focus attack. Hope that helps with your decision DD :wgrin:
Corey, look how I did at Final Round. I’m going to be embarrassed if I can’t live up to that  With that in mind, no one even said my main character, Balrog. There are only 3, maybe 4 characters I would feel comfy breaking out at a tournament. Rog is #1. Bison is #2 and Sagat is #3. I did start playing Sagat at Final Round during casuals for two reasons. 1) You hadn’t gone homo for him yet and none of us were playing him. If I don’t get to play against him, than I need to play him myself to understand what he can do. 2) I wanted a character who was good against the grapplers (Gief/Abel) since they were the characters who scare me the most as Rog. I might even be comfortable playing Blanka, but I haven’t really practiced his combos much…but really, does he even need them? I’m not sure I’m good enough with Akuma to deal with the HP handicap. That and with Akuma, sometimes that last 10-15% of his lifebar gets leapfrogged
Ask me who my favorite character to play is and I’ll tell you Bison. It is just like ST, I really enjoy the character but there is something that scares me from picking him in a tournament. ST it is the lack of defensive options. SF4 it is the inability to combo into ultras of low jab/shorts like Rog or Sagat. Granted if he could, man, he’d be #2 at worst if not better than Sagat. Even if Bison is damn near top tier, he’s just my favorite to play. SF2 style Bison always has been one of my favorite characters and it’s no different in SF4. For now, I’m going to try and solidify my main 3 of Rog, Bison, and Sagat. Then either Blanka, Akuma, Chun or I might scratch this itch to not give up on Viper. I dunno, Viper’s hard and I could learn 4 characters in the time it takes to play her!
Everett: Which SNK game would you play? I have high hopes for KoF XII and I pre-ordered it the day Christian posted it, but let’s be real. It is SNK. Odds are, there is going to be some overly broken mechanic and another 2003 Dou Lon, XI Gato, etc. will emerge who is more broken than Sagat ever thought of being. I hope not but it usually does in SNK games.
Blazblue is fun and I can’t wait to go to Nashville and play it again. I hope to go at least twice more before the console release. So far, my favorite character, and well, the only one I could figure out, is Rachel. I tried to play Arakune, but the cpu was on hell difficulty and computer Litchi wouldn’t leave me the fuck alone and let me try moves. So I couldn’t figure him out at all. DreamTR (arcade owner in Nashville) said he’d turn the difficulty down next time I’m in so I can practice. He even offered w/o me having to ask. He’s a nice guy, more arcade owners should have been as understanding a knowledgeable about their games sigh I’m not sure how much all of you (other than Michael) have researched the game. The buttons are A, B, C, D, or “Weak”, “Medium”, “Heavy”, and “Drive.” With only attack buttons, there are all kinds of command normals in this game.
Drive is basically the superpower button. Every character has some kind of power. Ragna, who I expect Michael and maybe Everett to play, has a bunch of life stealing moves with his drive. Rachel can summon gusts of wind that move her and some of her projectiles around the screen (any of the 8 directions) really fast. Tager (Coreeeeeey…) has Magnetism. Some of his moves put a charge on the opponent. Other moves will pull a charged opponent back in to Tager. Justin: I see you playing one of three: Bang and I forgot what he does exactly, Taokaka (cat girl) who has some kind of weird pouncing moves with her drive, or my #1 guess for you would be Litchi. Imagine if you combined Jam and Bridget. Well, more like Jam and Donovan from Darkstalkers. Her Drive is controlling her staff and throwing it out like Bridget/Donovan and calling it back. It looks more like Donovan to be honest. I’m not sure who you’d pick Christian. If I had to really guess, Taokaka is possible, Rachel perhaps. Jaton is going to pick Carl and bitch about him nonstop, because Carl seems more like Zappa with the dog than Eddie. The difference being that w/o his Shadow, Eddie still had an arsenal of moves. Carl, like Zappa, does not. If he hates Carl enough, maybe Jaton will be the one of us who plays Jin. Jin is the Ky, sort of, but his Drive is having some moves with Sub-Zero’s freezing power. Interesting stuff there.
Rachel is like storm + testament. She can use her Wind as an escape tool, or as a means to triangle jump MvC2 style. She also has a slow float, similar to Storm, but it doesn’t have nearly the control that Storm enjoys. Meaning you can’t go “slow fall, normal fall, slow fall” back and forth to fake people out like Storm could. Rachel’s projectile game is similar to Testamant imo. She shoots a little blob thing that sticks in the ground and makes a lightning rod. The projectile itself hits. When the lightning rod (aka Bat Pole) is in the ground, it doesn’t do anything on its own. Rachel has a move, 22A (hmm, this motion looks familiar), that causes lighting to strike all of the bat poles. If the opponent is standing on a bat pole when Rachel charges it, they have to block or get hit. Her super also electrifies the bat poles and causes lighting to strike above her. Meaning if someone is too close to Rachel, they get shocked for 10+ hits, which is plenty of time for Rachel to jump up and continue the combo. Rachel has a pumpkin projectile that moves about like Testament’s upward skull moves. It is really influenced by Rachel’s wind, so you can use wind gusts to throw the pumpkin all over the place. I’m not sure if I’ll settle on her or not. I still want to give Arakune a chance. I’m going to try to at least try four characters next time I go, I just haven’t made up my mind which four.
While typing this up, I remembered Noel. Justin, you might like her as well. Anyone familiar with SNK games might enjoy her. Her drive is that she has a series of comboable attacks just like Angel from KoF. She has a few “starters” some middle of the combo “continuing” moves and a few “finishers.” Angel was limited in that she could do all the continuing moves you wanted, but you couldn’t use the same button or direction on two consecutive moves. I.e. going from 6A to 6B or 4A wouldn’t work. But 6A to 4B would. Noel is limited in that she can’t do the same move twice within the same combo, but if you do too many of her continuing moves she has to stop and reload her guns. Overall, a really fun design imo. Christian, that might be your girl too, since you like What’s-Her-Name in TvC.
Tekken 6 is also pretty cool. Gogo Armor King and Bryan! Alyssa is a really innovate character for Tekken. Robo-Moe who looks just like she came out of a Phantasy Star game :razzy: She flies around and has Chainsaws that come out of her arms too! On paper, she sounds more like a 2d character. No, she isn’t top tier at all. Mid level for her. But Tekken is very well balanced anymore, so you still have to respect mid tier and a lot of low tier characters. Unlike SF, there were not a lot of top tier players in Tekken after T5: Dark Resurrection. When I was at Final Round I saw a lot of variety and only knew of two Heihachi players and one Devil Jin player there. Those are supposed to be S-class characters. Mid tier and low tier dominated the top 8.
Justin: Are you going back to WV for the summer? I just picked up Darkstalkers on PSP and I need someone to practice my Zabel against. How do I play this fool?!?
Christian: Are you going to C3 this weekend? What are the arrangements? Pre tourney casuals at your place? You know how to play a Darkstalker too!
Michael: For shits and giggles I should have a signature like yours. Christian and Justin as well. Ours would never work due to the signature size limits :razzy: GGXX: Ed, Pot, ABA, SF4 BX, DI, SG, SF2: BX, DI, DJ, Tekken: AK, Bryan, SC4: Cass, Cervy, Yoshi, VF: Goh, Lau, SF3: Chun, BB: Rachel, DS: Zabel/Raptor, UMK3: Kabal, Smoke, MKvDC: Lantern, Flash, KoF: Iori, Kula, Dou Lon, A2: Rose, Chun, A3: V-Sakura, Yeah, I’m way over the signature size limit there
And for everyone in the Burg, I don’t know if we’ll pull it off before exams, but I would love to pick a day and have everyone from the Burg and Bristol meet at a central location…my house, and have a big SF4 and maybe even STHD session. Might not happen due to lack of notice, but let’s see what we can do.
If you made it through the wall of text, you are definitely my friend :clown:
Damn everett got my back! lol. Now that song is stuck in my head.
I think no one uses him because other characters are more fun. But seriously, I think we need a sagat team mate because most of his pokes and stuff lead to free damage, i mean you defintely need skill to play him, its not like you can mash with sagat and still win (?). I still think he is retarded good because of the good match ups against other characters that he has. Also, his up close game is good, but his runaway game is safer lol. Why set yourself up for a lucky reversal!? I’m also just bitter because he hurts zangief so much. I just remembered this but i forgot who i was playing (christian or everett) and they got two standing rh’s on me when i was gief or some other character and it did insane damage. I dunno if it counted as a counter hit or what but it had to have taken off half my life. I’m not saying its impossible to beat sagat, i can beat average sagat players. But when it comes to someone that is really good its a matter of out thinking and if i’m using gief i either don’t have the ability to out think the other person or (i feel) gief doesn’t have enough options to just get him to sit down and eat some SPDs, or it could be that he has options and I’m just not as good with gief as i’d like to be. That match also just takes so much patience when I’d rather do some empty jumps into ultra, or some full screen ex bear runs. haha.
The problem is i never talk to you or play you! But learning sagat as an anti-grappler is a sound choice. Even though I think abel has a better chance in that fight since he has a few more options and usually players don’t run from him like they do gief. I hope you understand that I’m not actually bitching about sagat anymore since in 2 months kof12 and blazblue comes out and sf4 will probably be played only for gouken v gouken matches or money haha. BTW balrog is so fun. I’ve been playing him constantly now. I feel like i’m betraying my grapplers but fuck them, they don’t have easy links into ultra. And fuck you everett that shit is not going to get repetitive!
Man, its super easy to learn other characters in this game. I think i’m pretty good with obvioulsy gief, abel, ryu, gouken, sakura, i’d even say el fuerte. That’s all from everett and I doing random matches too. With viper isn’t all glitches? I haven’t read up on her at all so its all things i’ve over heard people talking about. Or maybe everett told me that.
SNK does have a history but i really think from jap players responses to the game, and the players in portland oregon who have an arcade with the game. That is seems pretty balanced. It just looks like every character has a chance to win without over powered non sense. Which scares me about console characters, i hope they don’t fuck up the game. The only big damaging stuff is custom counter or whatever it’s called, and you have such a small window to land it. So the rest of the match is just sweet and simple baits into bnb combos.
So I saw a couple vids with him and was unimpressed… until i saw some tourny vids of the INSANE COMBOS he can do, that do retarded damage. I dunno if it cost meter or what because I couldn’t tell but he just slung them all around the stage for 7 hits and it seemed like a little less than half life. I guess it only works if you charge the opponent? Yeah, that would make sense, that has to be what allows you to just sling the opponent around.
:party::party:
Edit: Did i miss drunk justin posts? I love drunk justin posts. Even more then drunk justin’s sol.
I imagine D spent most of his work-night thinking up that post. Blazblue sounds interesting, it’ll be nice to try that out atleast. As for my summer plans, I’ll probably be in WV half of the time, but I’ll try to stick around, especially for tournaments (hard for me to stay here if I can’t find work). I’ll probably be gone for most of May (5/11 - 5/30).
Darkstalkers on PSP? Sounds crazy. Zabel BnB combo ~ air-dash jp. strong or jump-in whatever, st. lk, st. lk --> hurricane or evil scream (f then b with 2 punches - reverse sonic boom). The trick is to hold forward as you link the 2 lk. If you’ve got the meter, keep up the air-dash mix-ups and look to land that combo. His EX guard cancel should be reliable too (dragon-punch w/ kicks). Zabel is a zoning machine; teleport and use his ability to crouch and move simultaneously. I think it’s cr. strong or fierce (claw/horn attack that come up vertically) that is a good anti-air.
lol, yeah. tuesday night karaoke at top of the stairs is mad crazy, I’m sure donnie knows what I’m talking about.
I gotta say, I probably need to do more focus attacks. I find it hard to place a tk cs without one. That and fa is fun as hell.
I should also do more air throws. It can counter SO MUCH. Pretty much the only way to take care of Bison’s Headstomps.
Lets see I had stuff to say but I have probably forgotten it in the course of reading all of these posts…
On a rog note: does anyone know how to do his glitch in 4? i can’t seem to get it to work.
Edit: Never mind, i figured it out. I wasn’t doing it fast enough.
Lol Donnie that post came out of no where. As for Kof, I’m not relying on it as ‘the tourney game’ if that’s what it sounds like. I hope it will be a popular and tourney worthy game but both are long shots… well more so the former. I’ve never played snk well enough to get fustrated with top tiers, I just know snk has always appealed to me but I’ve never been able to really get into it since the only people that play consistently are nc kids. But my problem is not really tiers in sf4, it’s just sf4. I don’t like the way it’s played, and top tiers in that game are only worst because they play the most like sf4. Just feels like a dragged out version of st to me. I know I joke around a lot about the game, but it’s just not something I have the patience to play in tourneys. That’s why I’m going back to 3s, if everything new sucks then I still have that. It’s really my favorite game that’s out and I shouldn’t have stopped playing it.
GG is fun too, so I’ll play that as long as Micheal is still into it, but can’t say that I’ll be entering any 6 person tourneys where everyone is really good and I’m still doing the same 2 tricks (I don’t know why I can’t get better in that game).
With that said, I’m also looking forward to Blazblue and expect to give that a try. Sounds legit.
Kinda wish HDR was still really popular so I could give that one more run. But I knew from the start that it wouldn’t last long for me. Maybe I should just play 3d games. Hate all these full screen projectiles lol.
Was anyone planning on actually going to that c3? Close to finals and only sf4 = not me. It’s all about the next NC tourney. You should travel 20 hours and finally make it to one. You could just come here the night before and come with us (assuming we will be able to go)…
edit- after watching more blazblue, it does look quite amazing.
Yeah in the video I saw they were not doing mixups, or combos, or anything other than super jump HK
What glitch are you talking about: back, forward, back rush?
This glitch: http://www.iplaywinner.com/news/2009/3/19/shotos-beware-new-balrog-glitch.html
I can do it every couple times i try it, but not consistently.
wtf? Justin showed something where you cancel into ultra after auto gaurd (which I couldn’t do very well) But I didn’t know about that.****
So you just do a dash low then press forward really quick? You don’t have to press any other buttons?
I thought i told you that you can do it…
If you are on aim get on.
Yeah christian, you just do db to df + pp then hit forward real quick after the initial input, and BAM you have yourself a move that eats two hits.
Oh yeah I’ve heard of this auto guard glitch but I don’t know how to do it either…
I gotta say, SFIV is pretty fucked up. It needs a patch. First, canceling armored moves into Ultras, Kara canceling into grabs still exists, the input system is overly broken…
like what’s with this new thing, where f.lp+mp~hp counts as both lp’s for a demon… and linking into say a mk can be done with ease by doing mk~lk to count as two mk inputs… shit is bananas.
What’s worse is that people consider these glitches to be fundamental gameplay elements… this game is becoming Melee.
Isn’t every fighting game like that? I mean look pre GGXXAC May, she has no damage unless you do jump install combos
I practiced the glitch for a bit. It isn’t that difficult, really. Using number pad notation, I did charge 4, 6+LK+MK (hold them), 4, 6+HK and it worked. My problem was more with the application. Rog’s ultra already goes through projectiles, although, I suppose you can go through them earlier and from further away with this glitch. Hmm, now that I think about it that might be the reason to use it.
Justin: Nah, I did it all at about 730 this morning. I’ve gotten on a screwed up sleep schedule that I need to correct over the next couple of days. Thanks for the Zabel info. That normal you were talking about is low fierce. I’ve seen Japanese people use that some.
Corey: I agree with you 100% on Sagat should zone. My point was, he’s scary because he isn’t a pinata when you get close to him. You get close to Sagat and he’s still scary.
Christian: I probably can not do Friday night unless something changes in the next two days.
Everett: I’m going to C3  I actually played HDR yesterday for the first time since SF4 dropped. I did silly SF4 Rog tricks like sweep a lot and jump in a lot, lol. I’m down for playing it some. I just need to catch you guys online. Play Tekken 6 :razzy: No fireballs there.
DD: Melee was the GOOD smash. They took all those “glitches” out, made another dozen retarded changes and Brawl is a competitive flop. Are those SF4 glitches really that big of a deal?
