Video of ''cancelled'' Streets Of Rage game

Indifferent

I should have made myself more clear. There is no 2d side-scroller genre anymore. If you want to split hairs and discuss some sub par PSN/Live indie games go right ahead but thats not the point I was making. My point was a franchise that was originally 2d will never been rebirthed in the current generation as a 2d game, and theres absolutely no game that has done that very thing thus far.

It’s general knowledge that the gaming industry appeals to mass market and therefore hardcore gamers always get the short end of the stick.

2d is considered “old school” and less visually appealing.

I think that 2.5D has more to offer than sprites.

One more thing about SoR3… it’s great that the enemies are smarter. I’d say the boss battles are the best of the series for that reason (even though the music keeps them from being memorable. You know, Shinobi 3 kind of ends the same way as SoR3, but the last level and final boss have some intense, ‘final battle’-type music playing in the background. SoR3 just repeats the music from the beginning of the game. But anyway…). But it’s not a good thing when EVERY enemy is smart. Nearly every arcade-style, score-based action game, games much more difficult than SoR3, has waves of dumb pawns mixed in with the advanced foes or bosses, to keep the scoring opportunity and pace of the action going. ‘Galsia’ should not be able to evade like crazy. I don’t see the point of the bikers having high health when they’re riding the bikes.

I’ve seen SoR3 speed runs and no-damage super plays, and the enemies still play run-away too damn much. The game lasts roughly an hour under the best conditions, even though there really isn’t any more content than other games.

When a game has a Run and Roll ability, and a faster, more responsive melee series that’s closer to Final Fight’s, slow pacing should not be a common complaint.

By saying there is no 2D genre anymore you prove you don’t pay attention to games. I hope I don’t have to link anything to you to show you there is considerable demand for side scrollers and the trend isn’t stopping any time soon. Also many modern side scrollers are just as good if not better than the classics although that’s clearly a matter of opinion not fact.

If your “point” does not concern the current climate of 2D gaming then why bother responding to it with a false claim? and what do you mean by “rebirthed”? Do you mean a reboot? or do sequels count too? Either way you’re wrong again. These are just the 2D reboots off the top of my head:

Hardcorps: Uprising
Castlevania: Mirror of Fate
Sonic Generations (only half of it but it still counts for my purpose)
Epic Mickey: The Power of Illusion
Metroid: Other M
Prince of Persia
Rayman: Origins

You made a really retarded post, sure none of these games are putting up COD sales figures but to expect that is being delusional. The 2D genre is in the midst of a small revival now but feel free to stay ignorant and pretend the gaming market consists only of Assassin’s Creed sequels while you hug your unopened copy of Mega Man 2.

That music is garbage. Don’t got those hot electric tracks I’m not even looking at it. Gameplay looks hella janky too.

Man, that game gave me faith back in Team Sonic. They’ve been doing such a good job with the series lately. Only thing it was missing was multiplayer.

Remember people, Capcom said it best “Sprites are fucking expensive” compared to 3-D models. I’ve read that a ton of the animations from the demo are from Crackdown, Ruffian’s Xbox 360 game that came with Halo 3. It’s much cheaper and easier to make a game with re-used 3D models than make new sprites.

Where have you been?

You typed all that and still nobody is making 2d games like that.

Take them flames somewhere else.

Like your tier lists.

I only played the demo until I got the game on steam recently. It’s awesome, definitely a must own game for any platformer or sonic fan although when compared to Rayman: Origins it could use some improvement. Sonic Team redeemed themselves but it’s only the first step in the right direction. I hope they’ve been taking notes from Ubisoft and make Sonic Generations 2 as good as Rayman: Origins was.

As long as the Werehog dies in the deepest pit of Hell it came from, nothing can ruin the franchise in my eyes again, not even another Sonic Shuffle.
Now all we need is Sonic Rush Adventure 3.

Damn… “Go Straight” started and I cracked a huge smile, which promptly proceeded to to fade into despair. Maybe it’s for the best that they cancelled it. That video is just…
