Couldn’t find a SOR thread, move it there if there’s one already

So are you glad or mad that it got canned?

ick that looks pretty gank.
Well… I thought it looked awesome until I was that it was on a 3D plane.
yea something like SOR should stick to the 2D way but i wish someone would come out with a new storyline for SOR on the updated consoles
Needs work combat wise, but the entire concept was cool. They should’ve finished it. Looked like it would’ve been epic with the proper tweaks
Instantly reminded me of the arcade mode from Final Fight Streetwise . Which I guess was the best thing about that game. I agree a side-scrolling approach would’ve been preferable.
Lol at SOR “arcade” cab.
The guys that made Double Dragon Neon should make a new SOR game.
Man, when I saw the title of the thread I was like… is this motherfucker going to link to a video from the canceled Dreamcast port?.. cause if he is…
After seeing this though I think the cancellation was warranted. I don’t know why some folks in the gaming industry don’t get that some games just don’t work in different perspectives/3D. Even though SOR technically was a 3D game it wasn’t by traditional gaming standards. Mega Man in 3D just isn’t the same. Mega Man Legends was cool, but it’s a whole different type of game. Doom wouldn’t work in 2D just like SoR, and Final Fight don’t belong in 3D.
After watching he video I chuckled at how appropriate it was that before the action started the street punk set fire to the old game, oh the irony.
Scratch that. Pay the guys that made SoR Remake for their efforts, polish the game, put in a few extras, including net play, and release that.
I think the guys at Bomber Games who made the Streets of Rage Remake would be best for a new Streets of Rage game. They even could design fun characters since they even made some characters like Rudra who played pretty well. Too bad that would never happen because Sega actually shot them a cease and desist.
Was just about to say that. DD Neon rocked!
Sadly, Sega doesn’t seem to care about any of their old series besides Sonic. Even high watermarks like Panzer Dragoon are left rotting. So the only hope for a new SOR will be a 3rd party.
Those guys finished their game and basically offered to give it to Sega for free to publish. Sega didn’t care.
Obviously no one will argue that SOR will always work better in 2D than 3D but for a pre alpha build this looked surprisingly fun. I understand why Ruffian Games was chosen since Crackdown is very similar to what a 3D SOR should be. However, their only title is a botched sequel to what should have been a simple update to a fun game, so I can think of at least a dozen developers who should have made a 3D SOR instead.
That being said it seems like RG kept what made SOR so fun and translated it to 3d well; the vibrant color palette, the interactivity with the environment, and freedom of movement during combat. I think this could have been a great game that would probably have gotten shitty reviews for being too simple and repetitive. Because we all know how reviewers have ADD and will dock at least 2 points from any game that requires doing the same thing more than once unless it’s COD:bluu:
I don’t get why this got canned, but people still fork out money for Dynasty Warrior crap.
I really liked what I saw, but I would want it to be quicker.
Jeez, I’ve forgotten what it was called, but didn’t AM2 or AM3 release a 3D brawler in the arcades??
EDIT: Blast from the past
Spikeout made by AM4.

Spikeout was awesome.
SOR needs Yuzo Koshiro if they want the reboot to soar.

Why do people want this to be like DD: Neon. Neon was ok, but not good or great. The nostalgia trip and humorous tone is what saves it, with its needlessly complicated control scheme (holding R2 instead of double-tapping to run) and weird hit boxes.
If those developers get hold to the SoR license, I hope they actually learned from Neon’s many mistakes.
Doesn’t seem bad in theory. But like everyone else said, it could use some improvements. Otherwise it’ll just be another Bouncer.
Doesn’t look all that promising. I immediately thought of FF Streetwise and that’s never good.
For 6-8 weeks of work to make this video Ruffian did a good job. If the were selected they would need that Japanese touch to make it really possible.
But I wouldn’t want a new Streets of Rage to be a downloadable game. That’s kind of disrespectful to how bad ass and timeless the series is. It needs a reboot and someone needs to care about making a better than great 3D hand-to-hand brawler. We have great melee weapon action games but now we need one that’s all about hand to hand combat. I think I’ve posted at length what I think a 3D Streets of Rage should be like. Maybe I need to revisit that and type it up somewhere else so I can always reference it when someone brings up reboot or remaking Streets of Rage.
Also I wasn’t a fan of DD Neon. Too stiff and bland for my tastes. Streets of Rage is like Sour Patch Kids listening to House and Techno while hopped up on cocaine cracking each other’s gummy candy ribs.
DD Neon was fun. Just needs online co-op. And yes, 1980’s “The Game” is what saves it.
The clip was alright, I don’t say much cause as the guy who put it out stated that it was a “Pre-pre-pre-pre-pre Alpha” build, so if they actually did keep going with it, who knows how it would have turned out.
Is it just me, or do people ignore how Rockstar managed to make “The Warriors” game one of the most awesome 3D beat-em-ups to date? God Hand was (and still is) nice, but I haven’t played a beat-em-up like The Warriors that actually sucked me in AND had badass co-op play that treated a ton of things brilliantly.
lol that’s pretty funny…
We were talking about The Warriors yesterday, probably my favorite modern beat-em up. It played so well and was extremely respectful to the source material. I wish they’d release it on PSN/Live so I could play it again. That would make a great template for a new SoR title
