Video of ''cancelled'' Streets Of Rage game

The Warriors was brilliant. Love that game.

I only saw a Let’s Play of The Warrios through the tutorial. It did look pretty solid. Still SoR needs a strong Japanese influence to make it pop. Japanese developers really understand snappy melee combat.

Streets of Rage is a micro-chasm of what’s wrong with Sega, as in, Sega basically ignore it. As they do with many of their franchises that could sell like gangbusters if Sega either A. developed new games themselves B. gave the game to a studio who knew what they were doing to do it. SoR, Shenmue, Shining Force, to name a few.

My main thing with Streets of Rage is the atmosphere and setting. I’m stubbornly in favor of any and all SoR games taking place exclusively at night. It’s like a Friday 13th movie. Shit has to start going down at Sunset and be resolved as the sun is coming up again. As far as gameplay evolutions, I would like to see more specialized characters, like in Dungeon Fighter Online. Really DFO is a great template for what SoR should become (minus theme and settings, obviously).

Is this a clever pun, or a butchered spelling?

I want everyone to stop for a second and watch this video and tell me what they feel. Not just what the see. Tell me what kind of emotions it stirs in you nostalgic or otherwise. I want you all to dig in deep… I mean flame breath crack of his fat ass deep.

Omg you totally *get *it. I mean my own personal idea for a retail AAA calibur SoR goes a bit further than that but you get the emotional impact of of the journey and the time of day and the setting for the general mood of the entire game. Bravo sir. This is like 70s/80s movies all the time. Descending into the darkness and arriving at dawn, barely escaping. Fuck yeah!

As far as I’m concerned, BomberGames has earned the rights to SOR, PERIOD. The time and dedication they put in to complete the remake says it all. It was disrespectful (read: fucked up) of Sega to hit them with the C+D after the game was completed.

Neon played like that shitty Gameboy Advance Double Dragon. Sucks. They shoulda made it play like nes dd2, and called it a day.

Sega during their console days was great, because they didn’t need to rely on using franchises over and over. It’s not good that they ignore the classics completely, but they had enough creativity to stay relevant with brand new ideas and IPs.

The soundtrack for any Streets of Rage update has to be a full-blown love letter to early-90s pop. No exceptions. I don’t think SoR’s identity is that unique compared to games like Double Dragon or Final Fight (look I’ll just say it, SoR except for the uncut/original Bare Knuckle 3, basically copied the popular scrolling and versus fighters of the day), so some creative license in that regard is fine with me. But it’s gotta be the ultimate early-90s house and pop music tribute, or total fail.

Seriously Sega, give Streets of Rage to Platinum and call it a day.

Yuzo Koshiro. He’s doing the Etrian Odyssey 4 soundtrack too. He actually knew how to get something GOOD of of the genesis sound chip too.

And it just feels good playing this game. It’s like with 80’s music with me too. Just something about it gives you a good feeling unlike today’s music. Plus the gameplay is just so so good as well.

WARRRIORSSSSSSSSSS!!! Come out and playyyyyy!!!

CANNNNN YOUUUUU DIGGG ITTTT???

That Wangan music, man…

That Ruffian Games video sucked the first time I watched it, still sucks now.

Honestly the atmosphere of the game is what truly set it apart from final fight .It felt like you were diving into the seedy underworld of a city that whole house trance sound it had was perfect because back then underground partying was heavy it was a whole other world. The music and atmosphere conveyed that .The opening set the tone for the entire game .This city belongs to criminals they run the streets .

For them do it right they would have to really sit down and recreate the atmosphere of a city getting swallowed by darkness .That whole late 80s early 90s back then cities like NYC ,La,Miami ,Detroit and Chicsgo those cities drastically changed at night they got worse you gotta reflect that in the cities .Music helps convey that and art direction and setting.

You watch your mother fucking mouth homey!

SOR and TMNT were the best Beat em Up games back then

Glad it got canceled. SOR music wouldn’t be the same either. Wubstep ect ect

Well Mr. X’s “powerful criminal organization” ran the city, day or night. That still reminds me of Final Fight, which was about the mayor (of America) taking the city back from a gang of street thugs that controlled everything. Not too different than ex-cops doing the same thing. Final Fight took place from dusk/late afternoon till morning as well, but you’re right that SoR was darker than FF (though other beat em ups of the time were dark and gritty like SoR). NO excuse and NO mercy if the soundtrack is messed up though.

I just want a Streets of Rage game with 3D graphic with 2D side scrolling.

Thanks, I’ve been reliving 16bit music for damn near an hour now… started with streets of rage 2, then on to turtles in time and super castlevania, and now I’m stuck on super metroid. prolly get into sotn next.

edit: nope, contra 3 stage 3 is my jam now

Sega and the cease and desist: SEGA knew about the SoR Remake, the guys at Bombergames asked/told SEGA about it before they did the work, luckily SEGA let them finish it instead of canning it sooner. I know people want to get mad like “they let them do the whole thing then hit them with the cease and desist” and this was probably the best realistic solution for everyone.

“The Warriors” is your 3D SoR. Maybe Gekido to an extent (fuck that flood stage). Fighting Force bleeeeeeeh.

SoR would transition to 3D just fine imo but I really don’t want to see it like that demo at the top.

I really hope whoever decides to make a spiritual sequel to SoR can get Yuzo or someone who would produce that type of sound for the game. No “remixes” of the old music, original music. And the stages. Regular city with street lit by the neon signs and street lights, to a club/bar, amusement park, beach, baseball field, elevators, etc.

DD Neon was meh.

holy shit! all they different styles and melodies hes done…EPIC!

Just posting to comment on how wildly inferior Streets of Rage 3 was to SOR2. Dashing was a nice addition because it upped the pace of the game. But…meh.

And I immediately wrote off the SOR fan remake once I saw that you could use guns as a weapon. For whatever reason I just decided then and there that the game was trash. But, having actually watched a video of the game, it looks like it came out pretty great, and was clearly a labor of love.
