Great example. If I am able to recognize the core melody (hope thats the right musical term) of the original in the remix, than there is a greater chance of me enjoying it. But I think SOTC shouldn’t really be remixed because much of its OST has long (by VG standards) and complex (many melodies throughout) themes. The music dictates the whole game. While I enjoy every theme, my absolute favorite has to be:

btw since I’m on the subject of SOTC, look at how the music plays a role in this vid:
True! Very true! A perfect example of this is the Tekken 3 AST. The songs sound VASTLY different from the OST, but you can hear tones of the OST in them. Listen to the Hwoarang or Lei tracks. Or the Heihachi ones. One of my fav. ASTs of all time.
The first 8 or so tracks are amazing arrangements of the original tracks that proceed them. The Mute City arrange has gotta be one of the best I’ve heard.
Actually, that’s what I was getting at. My wording was just piss poor.
Though a bit more broad. So long as it’s attempting to keep the same feeling. Like, if they do a techno remix of a song that’s already upbeat and has a lot going on I’m fine with it, but if they take a slower song, and completely change it into some happy, up beat fast paced song I usually don’t like that too much.
I also dislike remixes where the melody is barely recognizable.
There are some remixes that change a lot that I do like, but in general, they have to be really well done.
Yeah, it’s from Rez. Pretty awesome game. Grab the demo for Rez HD from XBLA if you get a chance, what with the game being based around the music, and the music being awesome…it’s pretty cool.
Sooo, anyone got the new punchout!! ost yet? theres a few tracks out on youtube so far, sounds like its gonna be hot fire
Is anyone interested in a looped once, fade King of Fighters 98 Ultimate Arrange?
If so which is better, and constant bitrate or a variable bitrate.
Off note: I’ve found a way to rip music from Wii discs, but the process takes awhile and I might not buy too many Wii games. The sound format must be in bsrtm or something like that.
