I’m wanting to hear some Grandia music, so guys mind posting some of your fav./best Grandia music?

I knew that guitar work sounded familiar…some of the comments confirmed who I thought it was.

Jun Senoue?

Yeah. I didn’t know Jun actually worked on the music for Journey of Dreams until I started hearing the first few riffs and was like ‘…Jun?’

So… I wonder if anyone else knows about the Bomberman Hero Soundtrack… It’s quite the nice one

I’m so rocking the CT soundtrack.

Question about the GBA’s soundchip. How does it compare to the SNES’s?

Reason I ask is because some SNES ports have exact music, like Zelda LTTP. Yet, Mario All-Stars have slightly different instruments. There was a “sameness” to most of the music on SNES, as was there on NES, GB, and Genesis. The GBA lacks this “sameness”. Sometimes its sounds like NES music, sometimes, its CD quality.

In Super Turbo for the GBA, the music is REALLY basic. It’s only slightly better than SNES’s Alpha 2 music. SNES’s SSF2 music is on par with the arcade in some aspects. SFA3 music on GBA is about the same as SFA2 on SNES (so I’m gonna guess that has to do with memory, as they fit MORE animation than the PSX version). Zelda LTTP sounds exactly like SNES, earthworm Jim 2 “Tangerines” has cleaner samples on GBA. Mario All Stars and DKC2 sounds weaker on GBA all around. As epic as SNES music is, I dont think it could do the Tekken music from GBA, which I’m not sure are chiptunes, because half the tracks are arcade audio. On the other hand, I dont think the GBA cold do Secret of Mana music.

Hmmm?

I always liked how you got new battle music throughout the game. Here’s a battle of one of the end-game bosses in Grandia 3, just because he has some sick attacks:

Now I want to play Grandia again.

That’s interesting…I actually haven’t really thought about it. So I listened to a comparison video between Super Mario World and Super Mario Advance 2. Sounds like the GBA isn’t quite on par with SNES…especially missing some omph in the bass department. GBA speaker had more treble in it than anything though so that’s probably the reasoning. I wouldn’t be surprised though if it has more to do with who’s the one handling the music and what they’re trying to accomplish. The bass seems to be kicking fine on this Megaman Zero track but if I still compare it to stuff I remember hearing on SNES it’s not quite up there.

Tekken Advance’s music is interesting.

Edit:
@Ryushen That Street Fighter link is awesome.

I fell in love with the FFXIII OST. I never played the game but im willing to pick up a used copy and try it out for the ride. Here’s a snippet of something you probably heard already lol

Been playin’ Machinarium (startin’ to get my ass kicked) and couldn’t possibly ignore this tune:

Nothing fancy or over the top. VGM with guitar as the main sound isn’t usually what I prefer, but like always, there are exceptions. This is one of them.

I can’t get enough from the Jet Set Radio Future soundtrack. This is what I’d play in the Garage.

The ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game’ soundtracks are also well done. Anamanaguchi does good stuff.

The Grandia (3) stuff was great. Thanks for linking it, King9999.

LoD menu music takin’ me back… holy sh…

Back during my RPG Maker days, I came across a lot of excellent tracks. While some of them are not video game music, they work so well with the game that you would think the songs were made for the game. I’ll post some later, but for now, I’ll leave you all with a few songs I’ve been listening to lately. Nice little gaming music playlist with lots of blasts to the past here. If you’re gonna be browsing SRK for a bit, do it in a new window/tab, and just listen to the stuff here for a spell:

IGN asked some guys to do a musical tribute to Metroid’s 25th anniversary and this was the result

Pretty good especially if you like violin and piano.

Also to go with the 25th anniversary tribute album that got released. Theophany from OCRemix did his own small Metroid Tribute album in honor of another ReMixer who passed away. I’m actually listening to it now while I’m dling the Harmony of A Hunter album.
