I donāt know if Iād necessarily call the Black Mages metal. Theyāre definitely rock though and some of their choices in vocals can possibly throw you off guard.

Itās gonna depend. Since the western industry seems to be moving towards more cinematic experiences and FPS, it seems the need for more orchestration and ambience is the direction the music seems to be going as well. Thatās not necessarily an excuse though since thereās plenty of games that can have great memorable music and not pull you out of the experience and possibly even help invoke the sense of emotions youāre supposed to be feeling at the moment. I played through both Uncharted games very recently and none of the music caught my ear save for the title theme. Halo 2ās āUnyieldingā though got me pumped when it came on as I was rolling around in the warthog.
I donāt know why it seems to be a hard thing to balance nowadays. I would have expected a game like Darksiders that borrows heavily from Zelda to have more memorable dungeon themes but I donāt remember any music from that game at all.

Source is āCentral Parkā. Source is interesting considering Iāve never heard it before and I never owned a C64. Otherwise this ReMix is pretty awesome and stays pretty close to the source. If you like metal then give this a listen.
Also spent most of the weekend listening to Harmony of a Hunter. A lot of these tracks are pretty softā¦some of them I could easily see being in a Metroid movie.

IMO the only good music he ever did was certain tracks in Total Annihilation, which in 1997 was actually a pretty big bag of fresh air in video game music in itās era clouded with generic rock, techno and even classical music scores. Itās a lot less relevant now though since a Soule soundtrack is pretty much like EVERYTHING out now.
