Video Game General v8.01D : PC Gaming Golden Age, Big Box (Part 1)

Usually you’re sacrificing things like resolution to maintain framerates in performance mode.

I highly doubt 60FPS is gonna be a standard even this console Gen. There’s just too many variables sometimes on the developer end. If there’s even one or two sections of a game where it drops below 60FPS, they’ll probably just lock the game to 30FPS to maintain consistency and stability. That’s why these performance options are starting to pop up more often on console games. If you’re so adament about your 60FPS in EVERY SINGLE game, then fine, you can sacrifice other aspects of graphical fidelity to achieve that. If you don’t want to sacrifice anything, I mean yeah, you’re gonna need more powerful hardware.

Different games put different amounts of strain on the GPU/CPU, depending on how well they’re optimized or how graphically detailed they are. Just because one game has more graphical detail and maintains 60FPS doesn’t mean every lesser looking game is gonna be less intensive on the hardware running it. Doom Eternal runs a smooth buttery 60FPS because iD Software went to some great lengths to optimize how the world renders around you.

Similar techniques are why games like Horizon Zero Dawn look as incredible as they do on console.

To me, its unreasonable to expect PC-like performance across the board when you don’t want to shell out the dough for actual high end hardware. I dunno.

Yeah, iD are the fucking bomb. I wish more developers put that much effort into their games. Those guys know what’s up.

I’m wondering how much of it has to do with the new Miles Spidey game being built on the bones of the previous game.

Oh fuck! No way!

All I wanted was NG+ but they’re going far beyond anything I ever hoped for. And it drops in 2 weeks. For free.

I actually was able to have a brief conversation with Ebert about Star Wars episode 1 when he spoke at the college I was attending…very nice guy.

I’ve got it. We gotta add each other on Steam. I’m always down to play some Portal.

We need a new Fat Princess sequel.

Maybe one for Steam. That game was ridiculously good.

Eh? RPGs are the strongest they’ve been in a long ass time. RPG mechanics are everything now.

I should’ve been more specific. Turn based.

Outside Fire emblem, Persona and DQ I don’t think strictly turn based rpgs are good. They’ve gotten really dry.

Rpg mechanics are good added to other genres.

Bought the Castlevania Anniversary Edition on Steam. It’s got the classic NES / SNES titles and even has Bloodlines. And it apparently has some game called Kid Dracula?

The 3DS has tons of great turn based rpgs. Bravely Default 1& Second are fantastic and Bravely 2 is coming to Switch soon. Not really seeing it man.

Bravely second came out like 5-6 yrs ago lol.

We’re talking about the whole generation tho, right…?

I feel like there’s been a lot of great turned based games actually. Xcom, Undertale, Pokémon, World of Horrror, War groove, Gears Tactics… Just to name some I’ve enjoyed.

Haven’t had a chance to try Wargroove. Need to move it up the backlog.

Those where just the ones that popped to mind Eskills. There is the entire Eterian series, the Persona Q series, Pokemon, the Aetelier series, Indivisible, like they are out there man. We just got a release year for SMTV. Lots of em out there offering all kinds of different

Ah, I still need to play Indivisible actually. Totally forgot that eventually released.
