Video Game General v8.01D : PC Gaming Golden Age, Big Box (Part 1)

This generation is about to wrap up. Here are my top picks for the gen in no order:

DUSK. One of the best indie games I’ve ever played. One of the best FPS titles I’ve ever played. One of the most unique and interesting games I’ve ever played, and it’s a 10-20 dollar indie game. Unbelievable level design, gameplay and atmosphere throughout the entire ride. It even sports a physics system. I believe if it wasn’t an indie title it would have cost millions to make, because the way the levels can shift and change in real-time makes even Uncharted setpieces look like shiiiiieeeet by comparison. A gem of a game that is so fucking good that I already have the demo for this dudes next game. Oh yeah, it was made almost entirely by one person. Fucking crazy.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana
Ys: Memories of Celceta(originally a Vita game ported to PC and PS4, I think it counts because of that.)
Killzone: Mercenaries People say this is one of the greatest handheld FPS games of all time, and honestly it just might be. PS3-era graphics on a handheld with a fantastic campaign AND multiplayer. Salute.
Metro: Exodus(really great FPS campaign with a cool cast of characters+graphics that made my base PS4 shit on itself.)
The Evil Within 1
The Evil Within 2(I liked the original more, and I enjoyed both more than REmake 2 & 3.)
Battlefield in general. I’d always dump 20-30ish hours in the MP of each game as well as clearing the campaign(4, Hardline, V, One.)
Ion Fury. DEM SPRITES! Oldschool FPS at its finest. If you like 90’s eras FPS you will love this game.
DOOM 2016
DOOM Eternal
Wolfenstein: The New Order
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood
Wolfenstein: The New Colossus(all great games except for the coop girl power game, that one was beyond disappointing.)
Dark Souls Remastered
Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin(the most disrespected Souls title deserves more respeckk)
Dark Souls III(would love to play the DLC, but I’ve never found a physical copy with the DLC on the disc. It might not exist.)
Bloodborne
Nioh
Nioh 2
Yakuza: Kiwami
Yakuza: Kiwami 2
Yakuza: 0
Yakuza: 6(might be the “worst” out of the recent Yakuza titles)
Judgement
Super Mario: 3D Land
Bloodstained
Shantaeaaeaeae Half Genie Hero(I riked it so much I bought it on PS4 AND Vita)
Devil May Cry 5
Fighting EX Layer(arguably the best fighter this gen that no one bought)
Tekken 7(arguably one of the best fighters this gen that everyone bought)

I think those are most of the titles that left an impression. Other than that I found I liked Sony’s 1st-party titles last-gen more than this one. I’d take games like Killzone 2 and the Resistance series over TLOU, Uncharted and those adventure titles with great graphics any day. I hated the PS4 Killzone title but I loved the PS3 titles and the Vita one.

PS3/360 era was the “ACTION GENERATION.” So, so many FPS, TPS and action games mang.

Honorable mention to this game, AKA “AA” Skyrim/Souls in space with jetpacks…I need to get back to it:

It doesnt. It’s digital only.

That just has a DLC code in it and it isn’t on the disc? That sucks if so. I’ll buy the DLC when it’s on sale if that’s the case. :sob:

Yea it’s just a code. It’s not on the disc.

That guy say’s it’s all on the disc.

They’re saying the same here.

Hmm. Then I don’t know man. When I looked it up back when that came out everyone said it was a code.

So I dunno anymore man shrug

I’d say it’s safe to say it’s on the disc based on those posts+the way From Soft handles their re-releases. Now if I can only ever find a copy…I think I saw it once near release at EBgames at almost full price, and then never again.

This won’t help

I don’t think this will make more money for the journos

One game I never got to play that looked very good was Outland. I hope they port it to newer generations

GOT, if you dislike FFXIII you’re going to hate GOT.

Outland was so dope.

So it’s going to be super dated too.

I’m gonna need an explanation for this. How are they similar?

linearity

What? Are you talking about Ghost of Tsushima, or is something else besides Game of Thrones abbreviated as GoT?

Everything I’ve read about Ghost of Tsushima says it’s an open world game, with a bunch of side stuff to do beyond progressing the story. Not that I mind linearity- I actually like it if done well. And I’m one of the few fans of FFXIII. But from what I’ve seen GoT is nothing like it at all.

I just bought the game and will be starting it tonight, so I’ll be able to talk a little bit more about it later.

well i’m watching a stream right now and it seem to me that’s what it is

people won’t shut up there’s always someone talking to main character

Huh. You’re the first person I’ve seen describe it as linear and compare it to FFXIII. If that’s true, then it’s definitely not what I was expecting. But like I said, I enjoyed FFXIII. I’m hoping I’ll enjoy GoT, too.
