Epic is epically shooting themselves in the foot here. They’re set to lose all their mobile fortnite players because they think they shouldn’t have to abide by the same rules every other dev who has apps in either store.
Kinda wonder if this will affect devs using Unreal Engine in the future.
This is a fan game for people who don’t know. Its interesting to see what fans have been doing to interpret Sonic in 3D space and in a lot of ways a couple of them are better than what Sega has done conceptually.
Epic only gets a cut if you are using the free model of UE.
If you buy the license you dont have to pay.
Also, if your sales pass certain thresholds the percentage cut they get is reduced.
They do something similar to their storefront.
They are not against them getting a cut.
They are against being as high as it is.
Specially when they dont provide what other platforms do, like server space, etc.
And in the case of apple, the rules they are against are basically only applied to video games.
Well they can’t, Android is open source.
But they lost android distribution.
You can side load apps, but not everyone fine with running their phone in developer mode.
You don’t even have to run your phone in developer mode to sideload. But it’s safe to say their iOS audience is toast unless people want to go through the annoyance that is trying to sideload on that platform.
I don’t care, Epic didn’t want to play by Apple rules, Apple kicked them out of their “house”. It’s not an monopoly as there other platforms.
But Epic got kicked off the other big player’s store as well.
Epic wanted to fuck around behind Apple’s and Google’s back and they got banned.
I agree with that, but it won’t be as big a deal for the Android users as it will be for the iOS ones. If I remember right, you have sideload Epic’s installer to get fortnite on Android anyway unless you use the Samsung store, so you’re having to sideload regardless.
The app store isn’t as but a deal for Samsung as it is for Apple & Google, so probably never. I wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung gave epic a special deal.
