Final Fantasy XIII isn’t as bad as a lot of people say, it’s just not great either. I’d say it’s subpar, but there’s worse.
Now for the hot take, Final Fantasy VI is the most overrated in the series. It has the best sound track though. But Kefka is a disappointing villain, and the cast was just too bloated.
I don’t remember exactly when I joined, think it said 2005 or something but def lurk before that and there were a lot of other active fighting games around like CvS2 MvC2 Tekken 4 (lol). 3S was never overrated, trust me. The fans it had could be called elitist maybe (although they were kinda right) but the game was never overrated. It is one of the best fighters, easily the best sf ever (ST is still good). If they said it was balanced then big LOL cause no game is ever balanced. Devs don’t test it to the extent that a fanbase will develop the game and find weird shit like roll cancel, custom combos outdamaging level 3 supers, kara stuff, shield dash, etc.I still remember an interview with a 3s dev where he confessed 3s was rushed dont remember exactly why. So yeah, you can tell from looking at Chun Li lol. Tekken is usually considered a very technical game but T4 is one of the most unbalanced bs ever made. You could maaaaaybe play 3 characters only (most reallistically 2). Sequels addressed the huge gap between Jin and the rest of the cast (ok they also gave us Steve but not quite the same). Other example of unbalanced and still being competitive is ST. Like Alex Valle said, imagine that shit being released right now. Fans would cry for patches etc. The amount of random shit is overwhelming and yet no one could say the game isn’t fun or is overrated.
Back to topic though, one thing is not getting it, different thing calling a game bad or overrated. Pertho complaining about jump ins or fireball parries lmao I can already tell the level of scrubbery we are dealing with. Like I said it’s fine if you never get it, just don’t ignorantly shit on it, k? K.
Since I had played it after VII, I didn’t have the same experience a lot of people did. It wasn’t a matter of graphics or anything like that (I mean, V is my favorite in the series, and I played that even later), but just a number of design and narrative choices that I just don’t care for. A lot of these, like Kefka for example, people hold up as reasons why they like it and usually it feels more like they’re speaking from a place of nostalgia than anything else.
This was my issue with VI as well. There was so much going on but none of it was interesting. The only reason I beat it is cause of how much I enjoyed playing Sabin. That’s it.
Mechanically, Sabin was cool. I didn’t like his personality. Edgar was definitely the better brother.
What bugged me about Kefka is that you beat his ass several times before they just hand-wave him into his seat of power. It really undermines the threat of the big bad when it’s someone you kick the shit out of regularly.
The Joker constantly loses to Batman but he’s still considered the main antagonist to Bats and arguably the main villain of the Batverse, despite consistently getting shit beaten out of him
The deal with Kefka is that he was the last batshit, insane, evil villain in the series. For the most part, FF villains after that have either been “rationalized,” and at times made more sympathetic, or have been giant space fleas from out of nowhere.
It doesn’t look bad but you now it’s gonna control like ass, especially in the kind of a game metal slug is. Basically don’t even bother without a gamepad
