Video Game General v8.01D : PC Gaming Golden Age, Big Box (Part 1)

Pretty much. I generally avoid mobile games unless they’re RPGs, something that doesn’t require precise movements

I just saw Tencent is involved, hard pass on Mobile Metal Slug lol

Finished Obra Dinn last night. Highly recommend it to everyone. One of the best puzzle/mystery games I have ever played.

And I promise it ain’t as ugly as screen shots make it look

Bought Amid Evil on Steam sale, holy balls is it good. Kinda Hexen meets Quake but without Hexen’s tedium.

Somebody never played Final Fantasy XIV.

Zenos is exactly that.

I liked FFVI a lot, but Kefka is kind of a lame duck villain in my mind. He wasn’t entertaining or threatening and he didn’t have much in the way of a personality. Also, I echo the sentiment that the playable cast was just too damn big. Who really gives a shit about half of those characters? Honestly.

Mobile, Pass.

It ether controls like ass or has very watered down game play.

Also Mobile games have crazy amounts of input lag

Yeah, I may as well not even acknowledge the game exist now.

Like what?

Think imma get Postal 4, Descent 1 to 3, Sin: Gold and Killer7. The 6 dollars off of 35 bucks and up purchases is really nice.

I’ve never played Sin…its like the only classic 90s FPS that haven’t played. Descent I hope holds up and the PC port of Killer7 is supposedly so good that it dumps on even the GC release.

Yea and Joker need to take a fucking break. Sick of that fucking clown, Batman has other just as dangerous Rogues to take on.

Also what’s this about Kefka being the last Batshit insane FF Villain? The guy in the game right after Kafka is absolutly Batshit insane. He thinks a shape shifting alien parasite is his mother and he wants to end the world, turn it into a spaceship for him to cruise the galaxy in the find new planets to fuck up lol. Dudes fucking nuts lol.

Been a while since I played 6, but wasn’t Kefka half esper like Terra? Either that or the end result of the Empire’s goofy experimentation that doomed the planet.

You defeat him a couple of time, but it didn’t stop him from successfully doing some heinous stuff. y’all got some really faulty logic if “lol I beat him in this part” magically erases the fact that he poisoned a whole castle. Then your whole party fails to stop him from becoming a god and destroying the planet.

I don’t know what y’all want in villains anymore.

Only one person said defeating him multiple times had an impact so where is this “what y’all want” bullshit coming from?

I just think Kefka is a lame villain. I didn’t like him much. He’s a “For the Evlulz” kinda villain and while that works, he’s not very memorable to me. He Final Fantasy Joker. Eh.

He wasn’t Evil for the lulz. Wtf?

He turns on the Empire after…getting passed on for promotions and some other shit? Been a long time since I played FF6 so somebody help me out here. Dude was wacked out but he wasn’t random.

Kefka wasn’t a bad villain, I just don’t like the clown looks. But his motivation, or rather, the reason for his actions was nihilism: nothing matters, nothing is of value. So why continue this pointless and painful existence? Let’s do away with it all.
As a mild nihilist, I can respect that.

Also, i hope FFVI gets the remake treatment.

Final Fantasy XIII was a game I zero expectations for. In virtually every instance of my life where I have zero expectations for something it doesn’t disappoint. FFXIII managed to be disappointing in spite of that. The narrative construction was flat out awful. You should not have to read the Datalog to get a grasp of what was going on. The in game story telling was atrocious. The characters are among the worst in the series. Ironically the character I was most worried about, Sazh, was the best one. Don’t get me started on Hope and Vanille.

Yes he was. He’s a nihilist who wants to burn it all down and finds it funny as fuck while doing so.

The greatness of portable gaming comes through for me once again… my car was long overdue for an oil change so I took it there today…and of course, Switch was with me…had a grand ol’ time playing Streets of Rage 4 Arcade mode and a little bit of Dragon Marked for Death.

…probably should’ve brought the pro controller instead though; once you’ve played on those it’s tough to go back to using the tiny joycons.

…and speaking of SoR4 again— those random knife-wielding dudes that always try to get you with the cheap shot can burn in hell, man. Their entire purpose in life is to ruin your combos. (and yeah–who the hell even holds a knife like that?)

I just want to say I disagree with FFVI being bloated with its characters. In the latter half of the game you can straight up choose to not even “save” most of the cast(lol.) You can also straight up miss the secret characters without ever knowing.

Lots of cool characters too, like Shadow and Locke. Ninjas and Thiefs are always cool.

No, Kefka half way though the game just straight up fucked with the literal cosmic balance and stole powers from the gods. Only Half Eseper is Terra with Celes being the next closest as she had genetic manipulation done so she almost like Terra (except she can’t shift into Esper form).

Kefka isn’t random. He was manipulative and contriving with plans with-in plans, yes he a force of Chaos and he used that Chaos as a weapon to disrupt and confuse his enemies. Just like the actual Joker. The Joker appears as a Chaotic mess as that is how he wanted to be seen, the Joker is cold and calculating and have plans with in plans, with in plans that even Batman’s OP-Gold-like-Prep-time can’t help completely with. Kefka is just the Joker with Magic, but he is just as calculating. He seems random as he wants to appear that way, and he knows how to take advantage of situations that appear (like fucking with the cosmic balance between the God, Demon and Devil statues to create the world of ruin and put himself as a god). And Unlike fucking that lame-shit Sephiroth, Kefka actually the one Final Fantasy Villain that did destroyed the world (nuclear war/Fallout style not completely wiping the world from existence) But he the only villain who actually achieved his goals for world destruction/domination.

Well by that logic then every villain who falls short of their goal is “fucking lame shit.”

Doesn’t Garland/Kuja sort of succeed by bringing out Necron to see if you’re worthy of living?

It’s been a long while since I played IX and paid attention and I know that’s a very reductive version of how it goes but I remember going something like that?

Well there more to say about Sephiroth, but I was talking about Kefka. I could write a whole book how Sephiroth a lame duck of a wanna be villain.
Sephiroth is a emo Super Human with server Mommy and abandonment issues who got “killed” before the game start, partially merge with the lifestream and used the fact Cloud already has PSTD and Mako exposure to screw with his head psychically.

Kefka didn’t need you to have PTSD, if he wanted to exploit it, he would give you PTSD first then mess with you using this own words and actions.
