Video Game General v8.01D : PC Gaming Golden Age, Big Box (Part 1)

Not many people on here probably played it but the Buffy the Vampire Slayer game exclusive to OG Xbox was pretty good 3d brawler for the time. It came out in 2002.

This is after Shenmue 1/2 but 3 years before Yakuza started.

It had decent combos ,decent camera, and had a good variety of extra weapons like crossbows, a super soaker that shoot hellfire or holy water.

Except for Buffy herself, most of the characters were voiced by the show actors.

Bugs Bunny Rabbit Rampage (1994) SNES
Good graphics and controls and fun if straight forward.
The Looney Tunes SNES games like Daffy Duck Marvin Missions and Road Runner Death Valley Rally had slippery controls.

Winback was basically the first to use third person cover system…which Konami used in later games.

It’s also a koei tecmo game.

Just put like 2.5 more hours into TLOU2. I’m over 22 hours total now.

If you have a PS4 and are not playing this game I seriously don’t know WTF is wrong with you lol.

Virtua Cop is one of my all time favorite gun games. Unfortunately those games are virtually impossible to find in working condition in the arcade scene. And then they use some special Sega hardware so they are not compatible with standard JAMMA cabinets. I don’t even know if you can convert them to JAMMA, I would guess you can somehow though since I believe it’s just different pinouts. I don’t know about the guns though if mine would work with it or not. And I know at some point Sega gun games used different technology than standard light gun. They used IR which is not compatible with the cabinet I have as it’s using different tech.

As for Die Hard Arcade, I have seen quite a few of those dedicated cabinets for sale in the past few months for fairly cheap prices.

EDIT:

Just did quick google search and Virtua Cop 1 and 2 would work with my guns (same with HOTD1) however they use medium res monitor and mine is standard. Plus they are Sega Model 2 and not JAMMA and it’s quite a bit of work to convert em.

Lol looked it up, that’s definitely the game I was thinking of.

So that is technically the first game with a cover system, here I was thinking the first game to do that was Kill Switch

Winback was great! I remember we had a blast with the 4 player deathmatch stuff, but I was also really really young so it might just be optimistic memories.

One of those gems I missed out on when I had an N64 I guess. Those games were expensive as fuck back then so I couldn’t take too many chances cuz moms wasn’t buying another for awhile lol

Simple. Don’t want to.

Syphon Filter 1 & 2 were my jams. Dont know what happened with the PS2 games, but damn where they kick ass in PS1.

Running in Syphon Filter was amazing at the time where the upper body moved independently of the lower body. If you look at it now it looks hilariously bad.

That shit I read about Syphon Filter connecting to a current Gen game blew my mind. Some jackass spoiled it but I still need to play that particular game

Drill Dozer on GBA is a game I’ve only ever heard 2 or 3 people ever talk about, Pertho being one of them. This game is fucking awesome and incredibly charming.

A PSP game more people need to play is Gurumin. It’s kinda like Zelda but you play a girl with a drill spear (Drill theme so far…lol)

Another GBA game more people need to play is Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure. This is my favorite Dragon Ball game easily, it’s very fun.

Maximo on PS2. Only real knock against it is no camera control. That causes some issues but if you can get past that it’s brilliantly challenging.

I had that game on PSP. It was ported to Steam a few years ago.

If it’s on Steam then there is no excuse.

Can someone remind me of the name of the game dev who committed suicide not too long ago because of the twitter accusations? My google fu is failing me.

Yeah, some of the magazines and maybe websites were initially pushing it as a Metal Gear competition on the N64. And while the story was similar featuring you playing a hero taking down terrorists in a remote location practically by yourself, it was less stealth, although there was some, and more cover based shooting. Which was surprisingly good given it was a Koei Tecmo joint and I don’t remember them doing anything like this in the N64.

Yea Winback was cool. I rented that a few times from Blockbuster for n64, but I’ve never owned that version. I own the PS2 version now tho.

Only thing I’m not a big fan of is the ending being decided by how fast you can complete the game. Otherwise it’s dope.
