Video Game General v8.01D : PC Gaming Golden Age, Big Box (Part 1)

Sean was in a cutscene in the Story mode, and hasn’t been trained by Ken yet.
Which makes me fearfully wonder what happens to my waifu: Laura Matsuda , in between the period of SFV and 3S!!
:cold_sweat:

In my defense—When it comes to my Switch titles whether they be physical or digital I’ve never bought any at full retail.

Ken barely even trains Sean though. Ken constantly dumps Sean on Ryu. It’s a running gag all through the SF3 trilogy.

Did you play Shenmue 1 and or 2?

Yes.

S1 - on DC in 2000
S2 on Xbox in 2002.

I have not replayed either since then though.

I got " Big Balla out of control" problems

Gotta give fair amount of playtime and attention between my PS4, PC, and Switch!!

I did not know that!!
Wander how the 3S storyline and beyond will be handled after SFV.

Oh you poor, poor things…

I wonder if I’d even have enough time in the day to compile my backlog list… :frowning:

That’s Steam’s fault lol

It will take me years to play all the games I brought on Steam. I still have Vita and DS games with the factory wrap on it.

I didn’t start using Steam till about 4 months ago…

This would all be coming purely off PS4 and Switch games…we could totally omit the Steam games.

Actually kinda curious now, I’ll have to take a look at my download list later lol.

Ok cool. Well it’s those games. It’s a slow burn martial arts epic where things happen sloooooooooowly.

@reiraku or anyone else who might enjoy my rambling

Played a little bit more of Phantasy Star IV last night. Didn’t realize the last 3 games came included in the Sega Genesis Classics collection, which I own on… Every platform lmfao. I’m not even sure why. Decided to do the playthrough on Switch.

So far it’s pretty cool. I love the pixel art, and I love how they’ll shove little pixel art boxes into scenes of dialog to give them a little more personality. This honestly feels like the type of game indie studios are desperate to emulate nowadays, but there’s something so genuine about it all considering it actually released during that time period.

Combat seems like pretty standard JPRG stuff so far. I’m only about 45 minutes in so maybe this comes later on but, the lack of tutorials or help at all is both a curse and a blessing. I love that they’re just letting me play the fucking game and expirience things organically, but it would help to know what some of these random symbols and icons do during combat lol.

I’m not quite sure I’m “hooked” yet, but, I’m definitely gonna keep giving it a chance. I love the aesthetic of the game, just haven’t run into anything yet that I’d consider compelling.

Yeah, things get a bit more involved when you mess around with dual techs and the macro feature. Macros let you not only quick set your team’s actions, but the order you perform them as well.

sheeeitttt, the “modern” Phantasy Star games were my #1 gaming addiction until Diablo 3 took that crown… I had most likely close to 1000 hours in PSO; those were such good times…especially since a couple of friends (an old college buddy and his wife) were also into it; the 3 of us spent insane amounts of time playing that on a regular basis back then…mostly on the Gamecube version, though he also had it on the original Xbox. If I recall, his wife was a FOnewearl; he played a HUmar or HUcast, and my main character was always a FOmar I named “Chojin”…heh, many great adventures and good times were had.

…would’ve been nice if they ported the PS Portable games to Switch…but I’d bet money that won’t ever happen, since it’s That Company, y’know…and disappointment is their specialty.

I saw that function, but like most of the other commands I had no idea what it did lol. That sounds like it would already come in handy though, I’ll have to mess around with it.

One thing I know for sure: this and PSO2 couldn’t possibly be more different. :joy: I’m curious what caused such a huge shift in tone at whatever point in the franchise.

It’s really handy when setting up dual techs.

Also, NEVER fight in a vehicle. Just run.

Playing through new tomb raider series and I feel like these devs have some sort of fetish for having Laura get the shit beaten out of her. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I played 1-2 a while back and playing the 3rd confirms the trend.

Yeah, it’s kind of like the thousands of ways Isaac can be mutilated to death in Dead Space.

… Except Dead Space is a horror game that effectively uses the violence to instill fear. In Tomb Raider, half of me wants to think they use the violence to heighten the tension you would actually feel in a survival situation.

The other half of me thinks the devs might just be some weirdos that are into some ero guro shit
