No, I mean you good because your argument is consistent and you actually take it seriously into consideration when buying a game.
Preferring digital to physical is super weird to me. Why would you prefer to buy something that has zero value compared to a physical release that has some value no matter what?
If you fall on hard times you can sell off some valuable titles you have lying around. You arenât selling anything digital unless you sell off your entire account or something.
I only buy games I have no plan to resell.
Granted, doesnât mean I donât make mistakes but itâs rare. I seriously only buy games Iâm almost positive I will like. Everything else is a GameStop ârentalâ or borrowed from friends.
So resale value doesnât mean much to me. I mostly just buy physical if I feel Iâll play it again years later.
this is a fair point. for me personally i donât ever sale anything and i know my gaming preferences pretty well at this point if im not sure iâll like something i wait for a sale.
Yea but heâs saying the option is nice in case you do need to liquidate for some reason. Shit happens right?
No, nothing ever happens. All is set in stone and unchanging.
Edit: funny that âset in stoneâ is used to mean decided and or permanent, yet stone is worn down by wind, water, plants, etc.
Pure envy.
This is actually a good point, but I dunno, I think itâll be rare to get real money off a title that you can get digitally.
If weâre talking assets, people will probably get more out of selling their console/older PC parts.
Itâs not that good of an investment imo, especially if the physical game is more expensive.
You are demonstrating a sever lack of knowledge about the second hand market.
Maybe.
I didnât really get a lot off selling my PS3 games with the console, if any at all, but like yâall said. Shit happens. Had to liquidate it quick.
Youâre free to find me some current games on the resale market that are actually more expensive than a digital release.
Spoiler tho, Iâll reply that I wouldnât buy it because I can get the same game for less by buying it digitally.
Iâm not looking to sell off any games I buy, but if some terrible shit happens and I need CASH NOW I have the option to sell off some of my games.
You can get Symphony of the Night on PS3, suXbox Live, and PS4. My black label PS1 copy is still going for a 100+ dollars.
That Bloodstained game that released, the 8-bit one. Itâs available digital for like the price of a McDonaldos Happy Meal. Physical copies that arenât the Switch release are worth a shitload, because it got a super limited print run from Limited Run Games.
Ys games are worth quite a bit(especially the early print/collectors editions) and they are all available digitally, even on PC for literal peanuts during sales and yet their physical releases are going for a ton.
Those are just a few examples, there are a shitload more.
UmâŚevery single Limited Run Games release is more expensive on the second hand market then it is in the digital store. River City Girls goes for 2 to 3 times the digital price.
That was easy.
A few reasons for me.
-
I have limited space. My living space is very limited so having a physical collection wouldnât be a good use of the space I have. I gave away my comics a few years ago I wasnât going to do anything with a stack of books I wasnât going to do anything with. Going digital made this a non-issue.
-
Itâs cheaper. When the price of games especially when theyâre on sale cost less than a meal at McDs it donât matter to me if I canât sell the thing off if I donât end up liking it.
-
Convenience. I can go to any digital storefront and get what I want when I want it. I donât need to wait for GameStop to open up to get the game I want. I can do that on my phone while riding in the subway and have it downloaded to my machine by the time I get home.
No, they are new versions or rehashes.
A Patch would be a you already own the program and you just get a change to that program.
Rebuying the whole thing isnât a patch.
You put it better than what I was writing.
Edit: I gotta add that I donât give two shits about hoarding all these little trinkets and boxes. Collecting is not my hobby.
Not to diss people who like it, but whatâs important for me is the actual content.
Also, you donât have to be switching disks and cartridges and putting wear and tear on your console/PCâs disk drive or whatever.
My DS Lite simply turned into a brick because it canât read cartridges anymore. I could try to find a place to fix it, but itâs more hassle than itâs worth considering how expensive itâll probably be because the thing is at least 10 years old.
If applicable I just buy whatever format is cheapest at the time of wanting the game. I have no preference.

Digital isnât always cheaper. Iâve bought a shitload of PS3 & PS4 titles over the years that were CHEAPER to buy physical copies of than it was buying them on PSN or Steam. That Inside+Limbo combo pack for example, it would have cost me more just to buy Limbo by itself on PSN.
Youâve seen me abuse the âtrade 3 get it free dealâ and paying 30-40 bucks for 3 random used titles and trading them in for a new release sure beats paying full price on Day Juan on PSN or Steam(and here in Canada EH, games cost 79.99+ tax, so almost a 100 bucks for a new release.) Sometimes retailers have insane sales too, and things like âbuy 2 games get 1 freeâ is also some ridiculous value.
I buy both physical and digital, but I will opt for physical every time even if I have to pay a bit more to do so.
Physical releases are incredibly important to video gaming history.
A game that I absolutely adore, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, was digital only and lost its storepage. That game is essentially going to fade into the ether unless someone holds onto a PS3 and never updates or deletes the game.
Games like fortnite, despite itâs cultural zeitgeist, are going to disappear eventually. Epic will stop supporting it and it will eventually be a myth or some shit. flossing and all.
RIP I was playing Scott Pilgrim the other day. I never bought the DLC though, and because of its de-listing I donât have the option to.
I really, really wanted that PSN/Live Outrun game but of course itâs de-listed too. Sucks. Now the only way to get these titles is to have them gameshared to you(lul)) or pull a drizzt and pirate them onto a modded console.

Shit happens. What about all those little cartridges lost to time tho? Weâre talking about some environmental damage too.
Also, you might want to check out if people havenât put the game files online. Especially since people are trying to emulate the PS3.

Good. The sooner, the better.
