The last GG I even attempted to learn was Accent Core I think? I think it was either vines Accent Core or Accent Core Plus.
I used Testament and ABA. I wasn’t very good though. Lol. Anime fighters have never been my thing.
The only ones I really put a substantial amount of effort into were Melty Blood and Arcana Heart. I was really good at Melty Blood m, imo but I never really found that game to be very deep either. I was competent at Arcana Heart but I wouldn’t say I was good at it.
Do the Sailor Moon fighting game and Gundam Endless Duel count as anime fighters? I played those a shiiiiit ton too.
I’ve never heard of Captain Tsubasa until the game got announced but watching the trailers for the game has me interested. Love some over the top sports anime so I’m hoping the show is what I expect.
Tsubasa is a legendary fútbol anime. It’s had video games all the back to the NES But they either weren’t released outside of japan or they were reskinned and renamed as other soccer games in the west
this is the first official Captain Tsubasa game to be ever released in the west. The games, like the anime have always been over the top crazy sports arcade like titles. I’m stoked
I think there is a distinction between Street Fighter Style and Straight up Anime Fighters.
Despite Street Fighter themselves have a metric fuck ton of Anime inspiration going on.
Not really, it has more to do with the fact that many people used anime as a dismissive way to refer to some games.
Nowdays people want to use it as a way to define certain aspects of gameplay.
But that depends from person to person.
There are plenty of games that are labeled as anime, but lack any of the charactersitics of an airdasher for example.
Games like Koihime Musou Enbu or Aquapazza who are more like SF than something like GG or MB.
Then you have people who use it to define games that are based on animes/mangas.
Yea thats kind of my point. Anime is a region of the world a type of animation comes from. Street Fighter always been hella Anime.
As Hecatom said, a lot of people use “Anime game” to describe games like Guilty Gear, a game based on an Anime, or to deride a game they don’t like. It’s not a very good genre descriptor. I’ll save you all the Metroidvania rant this time tho.
Nah, most people used it to refer it to the aesthetics of the game and not the gameplay.
It was a small subsect of people on the fgc who actually used it for airdashers.
And it was often used in conjuction, in an erroneous way i may add, with doujin.
After MB, almost everyone used both words interchangeably and then it came the poverty label to refer to games that were doujin but also poverty, like Akatsuki, Big Bang Beat, Ougo Musou Kyoku, and sometimes non doujin games like AH
Perhaps it gave the impression that was used to refer to airdashes because for a good chunk of time it was only GG and MB.
But then it came all the other games that were more similar to SF, like Akatsuki, that furry game that was on pc, etc and people still refered to them as anime.
Some wet fart at polygon tried to say that the soulsborne games are metroidvanias. It annoyed the hell out of me… Then I realized that it doesn’t matter what some bozo says, and I’ll play what I wanna play, dammit.
