Video Game General 7.0: Day Juan Ys: MoC June 9th & Wonderful 101 June 30th!

Your right, I knew you where gonna respond like a retard. I was 100 on that one.

Nobody who goes to this forum should really be complaining that much about the different Gokus in DBFZ and their differences and sameness if they play SF with the amount of different shotos that series has had over the years that pretty much do close to the same thing. Real Talk.

And that besides even with all the Goku’s they still don’t make up a quarter of the cast so just…shut the fuck up about shit you don’t play Po.

Welp, it is done, boys

All 4 mainline Uncharted games are now complete, leaving only Golden Abyss and Lost Legacy as remaining titles to be touched

UC4’s first playthrough on Hard clocked in at 18.5 hours. Even discounting all the deaths and reloads that’s still probably at least 17.5-18 hours worth of campaign. The game definitely feels long, though I can’t quite put my finger if it’s because of the levels and partial open world element, cuz the number of chapters is comparable to previous titles.

I’m also unsure if 4 was a “necessary” game so to speak. 3 did end a bit abruptly but it was pretty clear that Nate and Elena are “together-together” now, and naturally they wouldn’t be doing the treasure hunting all their life
I guess it’s a fair to compare UC4 to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, where both entries in an established adventure genre franchises serve as a “last hoorah” for its protagonists. Only difference being is that Nathan is much younger than Indy and instead of having a son Naughty Dog introduced a brother into the mix

Unsure how to feel about the segments from Sam’s and Drake’s childhoods, as instead of Nathan going on his own adventure tracking down the Francis Drake legacy, now it’s Sam who taught Nate everything and who came up with the Drake last name

Honestly I would love to see Amy Hennig’s original script and how Sam was incorporated into the story before Druckmann forced her out of the studio and rewrote everything
Can’t help but feel that Nadine beating the shit ouf of Nathan alone and then both him and Sam in a fistfight is also Druckmann’s work. I mean come on, by this point Nathan has beaten how many goons, grunts and other foes? Mans also survived a one-on-one match against a crazy dude who was wielding a knife, while the two were on a crumbling platform in the middle of an ancient middle eastern city. Just power scaling done wrong

The game is fucking gorgeous, however, it really does. Just an absolute eye candy through and through, and it’s unfortunate that this prettyness had to be achieved by sacrificing framerate. It does stabilize most of the time, though naturally it’s not rock-solid 30 during the more action heavy scenes. Gotta wait for dat juicy PS5 remaster, especially hope that whoever does one (assume it’s just gonna be Bluepoint since they did UC1-3 remasters) - they fix/improve stuff like antialiasing, on top of general perfomance upgrade
If you’ve seen Digital Foundry’s tech analysis of FF7R, then you might have heard them mention issues with the “ghosting” effect, and it’s suprisingly much more noticeable as you spend a lot of the time swimming or looking at camera closeups with characters’ hair having this sort of “shimmer” around their heads, a bit jarring when you spot it

P.S. Fuck the Minigun and the Shotgun dudes, hated them throughout the entire quadlogy. Don’t understand why ND removed the grenade throw back feature in 4 when it was a lifesaver in 3. I guess they thought it made the game too easy, despite enemies still being aggressive as fuck so you can’t just sit it out behind the cover (which never really was a thing even in UC1), not to mention that now cover is often destructible

P.P.S. The epilogue in UC4 was pretty cool, though I lowkey hope Naughty Dog just move on to a brand new franchise next generation. Don’t think I want nor need an Uncharted 5 with Nate’s and Elena’s daughter in it

Final rating for the series is 2 > 3 = 4 > 1

UC1 isn’t a bad game by any means but it’s pretty boring from design perspective
UC2 is just fantastic all around, you can really tell the team enjoyed making it, from the level design to general architecture to writing, can’t even believe it’s a sequel
UC3 is still pretty fun but I dislike how Elena has an even smaller role here than she did in 2, Chloe just disappears 1/3 through the story, and at times it goes a bit way over the top in terms of the action

Because it trivialized the grenade system. The point of enemies throwing grenades is to flush you out of cover. When you can throw them back not only do they lose their purpose, but now you can sit on your grenade stock and don’t have to use them until you want to instead of when you need to. Removes choice from the game because you dont have to choose when to use grenades you can just throw back the ones enemies constantly throw at you.

As nice as throwing them back is for the player, it’s a net loss for the health of the game as a whole.

Seriously, fuck the boats section in 3. I almost threw my controller over that part of the game.

…What boat section in 2?

The scrapyard area.

That’s in 3. There are no boat sections in 2.

I thought the scrapyard in 3 was one of the best parts of the game despite how…random it was. Some of the best gameplay was there.

woops, too much drinky :slightly_smiling_face:

@sonichuman check your PM’s when you can sir!

Because the first 7-10ish chapters (been a while since I played) feel like one huge prologue since they’re 90% cinematic and not really the level of interactive we’re use to when it comes to the Uncharted series.

I feel the first three games did a really good job of blending cinematic and interactive from start to stop. With 4 though that’s not the case, imo. Not that I dislike it. Every chapter leading into the adventure truly starting is vital to Nathan’s development throughout the entire game and reflective of his experiences and relationships in the series as a whole

That said, Once the game gets started it doesn’t stop.

My ranking would be 2 > 1 > 4 > 3

I rank 4 and 3 so low because the stories just aren’t as engaging to me. They’re great stories but they didn’t get their hooks into me like 1 and 2. That and 3’s pacing is all over the fucking place.

The only faults in 1 I feel are the jet ski spots and that a lot of enemies are bullet sponges for no reason.

2 is arguably the greatest PlayStation exclusive of all time.

Also what’s up with 3 basically not having a final boss?

At least 2 and 4 have proper last fights against the antagonist of each respective game

1 is just…idk crawl around 3 wooden boxes then press a button to GG

Only 2 really had a final boss. Even then, to me it wasn’t very memorable. The Shambala guards were more impressive to me and way harder to kill unless you had the cross bow

To me the biggest moments of each uncharted was

1: When you first come across the monsters in the crypt with Eddie

2: Escaping the train wreck (not the scaling part, fighting through the wreckage where you’re surrounded by snipers and heavily armed forces) and the inner sanctum where it’s you vs the Shambala guardians vs. dudes army

3: The museum with Cutter and Chloe as well as when Nate is hallucinating when fighting all the djinn enhanced guards

4: When you’re scaling down the cave and see the pirate ship
