Video Game General 7.0: Day Juan Ys: MoC June 9th & Wonderful 101 June 30th!

I had no intentions of getting this but I checked the review anyway… oh yeah, it’s even worse than what I was thinking

I never was really interested in playing Mortal Kombat, but thanks to the algorithm post looking at “Friendships”, it’s all over my feed. I looked at some of the story mode stuff. Is it me or does it have more polish as a complete game than Street Fighter?

MK definitely is a more complete game than SF5, I say this as a person who prefers SF. NRS puts hella care into their games in general

More complete with microtransactions. People already forgot all the krypt fuckery with the 3 different currencies you needed to buy things.

Then the community for the game basically imploded. So NRS keeps making the best games ever that don’t last more than 2 years.

I’m speaking like content wise such as story mode, all the other various modes, constant updates and the little small details (like specific character dialouge)

I don’t know anything about the microtransactions controversy tbh, I must’ve missed it. So I have to concede on that point

Just seems like they put more love in their fighters than Capcom does these days🤷🏾‍♂️

The only thing I believe Street Fighter firmly has over MK are fighting mechanics and general fluidity. I’ve grown pretty meh about SFV but I’ll take the feel of how that game plays over MK11 still. MK is really weird about its cancel windows for its moves so its less intuitive for hit confirms.

Sony CEO says PS5 games coming soon

New Super Lucky’s tale coming to xbone and ps4

Metroid style game called Mindseize is coming to Switch

My exact thoughts. I will never get used to Mk’s overall stiffness. SF feels like water, MK is molasses. It’s like when I do a combo in SF, it’s super responsive but MK has this weird dial-a-combo delay that throws my timing all off

But I appreciate the work NRS puts in the game tho

Microtransactions?

Mother fucker you can’t(could never) buy any of the krypt currencies. Peeps were just just mad they actually had to play the mode to unlock shit. Early glitches hella mitigated a lot of it though.

Stop spouting bs.

I think the issue with MK 11 (and Injustice 2) was the insane grind to unlock certain shit. Like I’m all for unlocking stuff in-game but investing 36372828 hours just to unlock a certain piece of clothing is just fuckballs

Yes NRS definitely has more care in all the bells and whistles in their games but like other people said, the MK “flow” just feels weird and clunky overall.

To be fair, MK 11 did a better job in trying to mitigate the stiffness with the goal of being better at footsies but they’re super inconsistent about it. They give enough frames to do so on only some of the moves and not all of them.

There was a big misconception though. Peeps thought all kyrpt drops were random, but they not all were. There was a whole reddit post showing map locations for character specific stuff that wasn’t randomized. NRS even made the grind easier.

All the early drama started from garbage kotaku crap. MK11 grind, if you really want to call it that isn’t bad. Major improvements over the bs from Injustice.

MK 11s story mode was fucking lit.

Bout all I know about the game.

All the throwaway single player modes in the world won’t save dat gameplay.

…Do most of you even give a shit about offline content in fighting games these days? I kind of did in the 90’s and early 00’s but once online play took off I straight up stopped caring.

Tekken Ball is dope. Probably the best offline mode in an FG. I remember that one mode in some of the Tekken games…Tekken Force? Basically it turned the game into a shitty action game/Death by Degrees. If trophies weren’t tied to the mode I’d have played them for maybe 5 minutes before never touching it again.

Most people in the FGC really “shouldn’t” care. By definition we should only give a shit about Vs. Mode and Training Mode and anything else doesn’t matter.

But a ton of other people do care. Giving people a reason to play your game even if they have no intention of playing online is generally a good thing. To say otherwise is to look in the mirror and realize you’re no better than EA.

Tekken Force was awesome, don’t you dare insult it! Lmao

Chronicles of the Swords is still the best offline content ever put into a fighting game. I’ve stopped caring bout extra modes ever since. Nothing has been as good.

I do. In fact I don’t really give a fuck about online content in fighters at all. My least used modes by far.

What a great world that is.

You know the FGC has gone to shit when you have so many games with decent netcodes and people are worried about casual player fluff.

Yes having a good “product” is better for business sales than a better fighting game.

I wager most people who play MK buy it for:

Fatalities
Story mode
Graphics
Unlocking stuff
Guest characters (since MK 9)

SFV may have a better engine but the online sucks ass,had a tiny launch roster, and it has other problems.
Even KOF 14 was better received. Unfortunately their problem is mediocre graphics and lack of enthusiasm for their products

No, it does not.
