Video Game General 7.0: Day Juan Ys: MoC June 9th & Wonderful 101 June 30th!

Certain design aspects of the open world invoke BotW. Its nowhere near as open but in terms of the vistas and how they use the environment to draw your attention to areas without flat out telling you to go there.

Now that was just unnecessary.

Yā€™all are some grumpy pants.

Because ever since BotWā€™s release everyone thinks every atmospheric open world game is BotW-like.

People seem to think Nintendo broke new ground or created some new concept or game genre when BotW is pretty bare minimum of what open world games are/can be.

Itā€™s hope it comes to PC for me.

That Ghost of Sushi game looks real pretty and cool but uhā€¦looks mad easy.

I dont have a ps4 anyhow and I dont plan on getting one any time soon so I wont be able to play it.

This and the animals leading you to secrets after petting it, or flying near you, leading to secrets, ingredients for the dye on your clothes as well as upgrades. Bird is more in your face in GoT whereas BotW they donā€™t make it as pronounced as well as flying in a formation high in the air.

Those stuck out to me the most.

Just finished Uncharted 2. Iā€™ll get to 3 at some point but not in a rush. How Naughty Dog creates the environment to build up Nate to do cool stuff was a lot of fun. The giant dagger puzzle, the train and village and ice caves before Shimbala were awesome. The melee is all kinds of gross, though. I know itā€™s not the focus but the fights that needed it and the late enemies, are just all kinds of OOF, lol.

Ghosts of Tsushima and Yakuza: Like A Dragon are the rest of the games Iā€™m getting for the PS4 and Iā€™m done buying games for itā€¦unless we get the samurai Yakuza games, then Iā€™ll get those too. Itā€™s been a fun three years with the system. :+1:

I donā€™t think he even remotely implied that was his reasoning.

I donā€™t think BOTW revolutionized the landscape for entertainment or anything, but youā€™re definitely selling the game a bit short.

Disagree. BotW, Smash and Fire Emblem Warriors are the only games Iā€™ve regretted buying for my Switch.

BotW bored me to absolute tears. The only thing I really enjoyed about it was Link and Zeldaā€™s redesign and the champions.

FIENDING HARD FOR BOTW 2!!!

But BotW, GTAV, RDR2, and AC4: Black Flag are the GOATs of Open World games!!

The developers were sued by Iron Maiden, thus, they had to change the title of the game (Ion Maiden)

Stu doesnā€™t like BotW. It isnā€™t like a direct thing but there are things that BotW did for itā€™s open world design that I recognize in this game like I stated earlier. The design docs for BotW stated that they designed the open world environment in a manner as like an invisible hand that leads players and draws their attention to things without telling them and I feel this game took a page out of that playbook. They even did a shot over looking the cliff during that gameplay footage looking out over everything just like BotWā€™s opening moments. It almost felt just like a shout out.

They donā€™t have resets, jump cancels or instant bomb drop -> bomb parry, and lightening + metal weapon shenanigans, though.

Iā€™d say XCX is in second for the GDLK mechā€™s. Itā€™s just getting there is another story, lol.

This has been a huge one Iā€™ve seen in games. There was a One Piece game that did it even. I remember thinking ā€œBotW is everywhereā€

Not a bad game to pull from and throw in Samurai with not fantastical elements and Iā€™m there. My hype is through the roof right now, which is always cool went itā€™s not expected.

Iā€™m going to do a second run of GoT using the black and white film option. Just fuck me up Sucker Punch.

Iā€™m not though? Iā€™m simply stating that I donā€™t like it and stating that a lot of people have been comparing other atmospheric open world games to Botw since itā€™s release. Both is true. Facebook, Reddit and Twitter are all saying GoT is BotW with a Japanese motif. Even gaming news sites are saying itā€™s BotW-like.

It isnā€™t and if you go in expecting that youā€™re likely going to be disappointed for one reason or another. Just like whenever anyone compares x to y in any medium

Iā€™ve mentioned the laundry list of things I dislike about BotW several times and Iā€™m not going to repeat them cause there isnā€™t a point and I simply have better things to do.

If you like it thatā€™s fine. More power to you. But Thereā€™s a reason why itā€™s called Breath of the Mild by so many people. Itā€™s a very minimal open world experience.

ā€¦

Driving vehicles are a cool story though, lol.

Speaking of Open World. Is a game considered Open World if it doesnā€™t have real-time night and day cycles? I remember seeing that as point of contention when it came to Yakuza and Spider-Man.
