That sounds like a click bait title to that video. Of course game designers and developers should listen to negative criticism. They should listen to all of it.

However that does not mean they should necessarily act on it and change things because of it.

As a developer myself, if we listened to the customers who think they know how to design shit, I would have developed some very shitty software. What customers need to focus on is what the problem is not how to solve the problem. Let the professionals solve the problem.

That said, there is such things as bad design that gets implemented and it happens all the time. And hearing user feedback about it and their pain points is invaluable and then can help redesign stuff in a better manner.

But replying to negative feedback like “THIS SUCKS IT SHOULD DO THIS INSTEAD” is terrible feedback. Sure you can listen to it but it doesn’t mean you have to do anything about it.

Scorn still exists? Fuckin sweet. I’ve been waiting on that game for so long. I hope it delivers on what Agony couldn’t, those two games seem to be in a similar space gameplay wise, but Agony was such a colossal letdown in so many ways.

If Scorn can maintain some interesting exploration, with a little combat and a little puzzle solving, it could be so cool. The art style alone caught my eye YEARS ago and I still remember it. One, because their visuals were pretty impressive, but mostly because Giger has an style that is hard to forget and easy to point out.

Spoiler: One or these is an actual Giger. The way they’ve managed to capture his style is very impressive.

… But can YOU tell me which Giger is the real Giger without cheating??

I think it depends, in my opinion the new age gamer whines a little too much instead of investing time in getting better at the game. The worst offenders are the game journalists who constantly cry about difficulty in games that were designed to appeal to hardcore gamers. They just need to accept the game isn’t for them, and not everything in designed to hold your bitch ass hand.

That said I can think of quite a few games that had really bad mechanics which really frustrated me game play wise. For instance, in Doom Eternal in certain parts of the game you get walled off by red force shields that require you to kill all of the enemies in an area. Well sometimes the guy you need to kill is behind the force field and you have to coax him out from behind to the force-field to progress. This really makes certain parts of the game annoying and not in the “JUST GIT GUD” kind of way.

This person must have never played video games before. I killed plenty of dogs in games and gave no fucks.

If a dog is fucking attacking me in a game you can bet imma kill it. If I’m getting attacked by a group you can bet the dogs are the first to go since they’re the most annoying.

But I also love Monster Hunter so I must be evil.

Not sure where that implies you’re evil for killing an animal that attacks you.

I think it’s a neat detail that NPC’s actually communicate with not only each other by name, but the animals they use as well. Like yeah, as horrible as these people are I imagine they would be a little distraught when their pet gets killed instead of being a robot who’s only focused on killing the player. Much appreciated and subtle touch of realism, and it’s something we’ve known about the game for awhile now.

Not sure how this guy managed to stretch that very small detail into an entire article.

hey HEY

Video game dogs with names have video game lives! Think of the video game owners next time you snap their necks, shoot/knife them. :upside_down_face:

Sure I can kill the dog, but can I eat it for survival?

I don’t get it either Martian. That’s the point lol

Like, I’m not against making the world feel a certain level of reality or them trying to make combat feel something you’d be emotionally conflicted about IN the context of the story. But I don’t think it makes sense to have to warn people about it as consumers.

Like, in the end it’s still a story, and it’s not like you’re killing actual dogs. The character your controlling is killing virtual ones because their fucking life is in danger lol

Don’t you kill dogs in the original Metal Gear game for NES?

I kinda just chuckle at the idea that people need a warning that they might have to kill a dog, in a game where you are routinely capping and slitting the throats of human beings.

What a world.

Pretty sure killing dogs has been a thing from the jump of games.

I get what Naughty Dog is going for with the dogs but as a real life dog lover…

FUCK VIDEO GAME DOGS. No gamer gives a shit about virtual dog enemies. We have 30 years of training to hate those mother fuckers. They are always fast, nimble, usually have a bite grab that sucks to deal with, are short as fuck so only certain attacks ever work on them.

Like you’re gonna have a hard time making me feel bad about capping a dog trying to bite my face off, I played Ninja Gaiden…i learned to relish killing the little fucks a long time ago.
